This is a forum to discuss the current/developing MMOs not to post crap to get a reaction. If you have ever wondered why you have the reputation you have at this community, this is why.
Any thread that attempts any real discussion is ignored and the trolls, the shills and their alts bury it under such relevant and well thought out threads with titles such as "does anyone else think the game sucks". It's not just on the LoTRO forum either, look at the WAR and AOC Forums, and god forbid anyone who enjoys WoW posts anything positive about the game here.
So I poked some fun at the trolls, get over it or ignore my posts . Your choice.
Oh, I believe after the fact you'd like everyone to believe you were joking, but I think anyone reviewing your posts knows this is merely your futile attempt at revisionary history. To you, everyone is a 'troll' who dislikes LOTRO, and everyone else who prefers another game is a 'shill'. Humorously, you have encapsulated both troll and shill in one post. Congratulations! It is not everyday one meets a trollish sycophant. I mean really, does Turbine pay you by the word, or do they get a paragraphical discount?
Morth why do you even bother? You were banned from the old MEO ( LoTRO was MEO before it was LoTRO) boards how many times? have sworn your hate for it and Turbine for years now but you still hang around just to bash the game . Why? No one really cares about how you feel about the game except you, haven't you figured that out yet ? That would be like me hanging around the Vanguard forums still. I ignore games I do not care for, you might try that . It sure makes life a lot more pleasant. All you have to do is get over the fact that Turbine did not care for your suggestions, or should I say your demands on how to design the game.
I only wish that I was getting paid, my history on these boards is not limited to one developer or game you know. I was bashing Vanguard while during the same time period I was praising EQII. Heck I stil praise EQII so I guess you think I am on Turbine and SOE's payrolls? I am on the AoC forums also so maybe Funcom should send a little something my way also LOL. Nice theory dude but I am not a shill for any developer or game. I just like this one is all, seems a lot of other people do also.
JackDog. . .I've always thought your posts were great man. True and to the point. Don't let the fools bring your shit down either man. Cause this site can not take anything for a joke.

A point of clarification: Your memory is faulty, I was never banned or temp banned from the MEO forums, ever. It was only when they cheapened the game and called it LOTRO and brought over Calandryll and the same bunch that destroyed SWG to do the same for Middle-earth (thankfully, he is now gone). I think I was banned 8 or 9 times thereafter, which Patience, the community manager, told me was the all-time Turbine record. Woot! How's that for power-posting? After I posted my LOTRO review when the NDA was dropped she finally perma-banned me. By then it didn't matter, because I had seen enough. *shrugs*
Point blank, I wouldn't give a damn if it weren't Middle-earth (and if they didn't have a Middle-earth title, frankly no one would be playing this game). But really, I wasn't commenting on the game (which I do rarely now anyway); rather, it was about you waving the fanboi banner so desperately that I am afraid you might break your wrists in the frenzy of twirling.
You're not getting paid? Better not quit your day job then.

~yawn~ whatever Morth I was over on the MEO Forums from the time Sierra was the developer, I told you many a time with my alias over there you were going to be disappointed but you would not listen. Seems as you will forever be one who has not beheld the light of the two trees of Valinor. It is a good game Morph, nothing more than a game, nothing less. You will never be able to live in Middle Earth except in your imagination, for it is a fictional place.
the definition of irony:A contrast or an incongruity between what is stated and what is really meant, or between what is expected to happen and what actually does happen. Two kinds of irony are: 1) verbal irony, in which a writer or speaker says one thing and means something entirely different; and 2) dramatic irony in which a reader or audience member perceives something that a character in the story does not
I cannot believe that anyone took that post seriously, never mind I just remembered where I am. I also guess they think that whatever they post here actually means something Goback and read some of the pre release Dark and Light forum archives boys and girls. A hint - no one gives a damn about your opinions. No one gives a shit about these forums or most the other large site forums for that matter, they are just a entertaining place to post for personal entertainment is all. One review on a reputable site trumps 10,000 troll posts. The vault forums were ( are) jokes for years, now MMORPG is the new king of the "no one really reads for info" forums.
I usually try not to flame but realy your high and mighty attitude is too irritating to ignore. You say this site is a joke yet you have made around 2900 posts far more than the average poster. Therefore isnt it fair to say you have largely contributed to making this site a "joke" and by doing so you have proved that you yourself are a "joke". Because having posted 2900 posts the site is a reflection of you. Id also like to comment on you point that people play games to waste time. All I can say is no. This might be true for you but I for one play games to relax and have fun and that is not a waste of time.

you dont even have a fucking clue to what a clone is otherwise you'd know that wow is not a lotro clone as lotro is a wow clone as wow was made before peeps knew lotro was even being made lmao do us all a favor grab a gun and blow your brains out :P

Ah, but see that's where you're wrong, Jack (I can't recall who you were in the Sierra days, nor do I really care, particularly if you go about changing your name as if you have something to hide). I have said all along I can live with the lore inconsistencies, hell I played DAoC from alpha to beta to release for three years and the game didn't bear the slightest resemblance to the Arthurian legend.
But the whole point is indeed Middle-earth for LOTRO. Let me put it this way: if one removed the Middle-earth title from the game, could Lotro stand on its own merit when compared to other existing games regarding basic game mechanics, UI, combat and crafting? Be honest -- could it compete without its crutch? I would answer with an emphatic no. WIthout the Middle-earth ambiance it offers nothing but tedious gameplay, subpar PvP, and unimaginative crafting. It is a reiteration of other games who did it best and first...wash, rinse, repeat. Or perhaps a better analogy would be quest, kill, repeat.

Middle-earth deserved far better than mediocrity.
Bravo. Best LOTRO post ever.
Like I've said, take away the LOTR license and what you have is Silkroad. The game is no better.
Everyone copies everyone else. However, I take issue with stating that EvE is copying any of the fantasy games. In fact, there are things that were features in EvE well before they were ever implemented in fantasty MMOs. An example is the EvEmail system. SWG also had an ingame mail system before WoW was released. Guild banks? Well EvE had Corporation hangars for a very long time before DAoC ever had them. What is very nice too about the EvE version is that you can separate your corp hangar into different hangars and limit their access to various members. Imo, EvE has one of the best 'guild' handling systems of any MMO.
EvE also has some rare features I have yet to see in fantasy games: an ingame browser, a jukebox (ok, the music is lousy but it's the thought that counts here), a fantastic way of handling access to chat channels, and the most evolved market I've ever seen. Its map system is also unique (it has to be considering the size and nature of the EvE galaxy).
I can't actually think of any innovations in the fantasy game market for UI and player features outside of UO. UO was the first graphical MMO to have player houses and player vendors. It took a long time for them to reappear in fantasy MMOs (I think they started reappearing in the MMO market around the time that SWG was released). SWG's way of handling player towns was innovative and I loved their bazaar system in the towns. I can't think of anything at all that Mythic created in DAoC, or Blizz in WoW.
I guess LotRO's claim to fame will be chicken-related
Back in EvE. Started with BatMUD. Main MMOs have been EvE and DAoC.

Maybe you should catch up with reality abit more JackDog , seing as LOTRO didnt have voice chat first either lol , it started back with Counter-Strike afaik with ingame voice options, it isnt something that LOTRO can claim just because they are the first MMO with it and besides who the frack needs ingame voice when we got ventrilo or teamspeak for raids ?.
Even battlefield 2 has ingame voice support and i bet alot more games does as well, that came out before LOTRO.
way to miss the point kids, and on a side note I guess CS is a MMORPG now also? You guys better be careful or you will dislocate a shoulder or something here, you are really reaching now
If there were any substance to this rip-off hysteria then obviously there would be plenty of copy right law suits to lend fuel to this tired argument.
That would be incorrect. What exactly would WoW sue LOTRO over? Intellectual theft? I would suggest in the case of developers the terms intellectual propriety or theft would be oxymorons. WoW lifted everything it had from other games, which is not a judgement, it is fact. LOTRO has done the same in order to match the WoW demographic (a point admitted directly by Turbine with no ill-efffect). Most of the game mechanics have long been in the public domain primarily because the innovators never copyrighted specific game functions (as most of the first games were basically flying by the seat of their pants). Believe me, if someone had the foresight to have copywritten the term 'PvP' they would have done so. Elves, trolls, dwarves, Paladins, knights, mages, sorcerors, champions? None of this is copyrightable because the words are in the public domain. However, you will notice that no other game has 'Hobbits' (they are 'halflings' rather); this is because of direct licensing from the copyright holder.
P.S. One of the best cases of games and copyright infringement came when the original Dungeons and Dragons used the word 'Hobbit' for a race that was nearly identical to Tolkien's Hobbits. The Tolkien Estate threatened to sue and TSR (D&D's parent company) backed down and changed their Hobbits to Halflings.
