My issue isnt that MMo's can be played on consoles, but rather that the act of making the mmo console-capable also tends to dumb the game down. I wouldnt care what people people played a game on, as long as it doesnt make the game different from what it is indended to be.
So I guess the answer to the original question is no it isnt the last hope, although I do look forward to the game if it ever is released.
merely the lack of input buttons on a controller would significantly force a game to become more simple...
console mmo's do not interest me.... although i would like to see the mmo market grow and see more good mmo's be released, instead of crap like vanguard, lotro, and others.
--people who believe in abstinence are unsurprisingly also some of the ugliest most sexually undesired people in the world.--
No, console means console.... and core means core.
Console, as in xbox, playstaion and wii.
Core, as in the central, innermost, or most essential part of a thing. As I understand the word, core MMO players would be the average players, the median players or the demographic that makes up the bulk of players.
OP, I understand what you mean. If you don't understand what he's saying then you probably don't have much business reading the DF forums lol. I agree totally that it is our last hope. However, they are taking so long to come out with it many of the players will lose interest and possibly learn to love some of the newer MMO content that will be seen in games like WAR and AoC. DF needs get their butts in gear.
Uh...darkfall is the last hope for those of us that dont like carebear games with training wheels. Since so many people play wow and all the other games that are exactly the same...i dont think that "core" applies at all.
Darkfall is for the forgotten players, the pvpers.

Goofy's got it right..... this is who DF is aimed at, and its the FFA PVP crowd that has the most vested interest in seeing the game succeed financially.... as it might encourage other developers to consider making PVP a more important part of the their game design.
and they've waited a long time for a fun, new game....

Why pin your hopes on a game that will either not release or end up another Dark & Light?
With WAR, AoC, PoTBS and a host of other games coming out, there will be plenty of ways for you to enjoy your pvp. I'm guessing here, but you want a game that is full pvp with full looting. If you want true competitive game, I highly recommend onsite FPS tournaments. There are a lot of fun and a lot of money can be won this way. The problem is, you don't play on your own rigs so there is no way anyone can cheat and lag is hardly ever an issue. The problem with today's MMOGs is that it is too easy to cheat. From hacking to modern keyboards, if you know coding you are at a huge advantage to win. Look at most of today's MMOG, one button pushing is all a lot of people do per encounter. How is that gaming?
Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

Um, what world do you live in?
I can't find a single game anywhere on the market that doesn't have PvP in it.
Would be nice to see someone make a game that DIDN'T have it, to be completely honest.
Name me a game that doesn't have some sort of PvP progression? (Titles, Rank, Skills, whatever...). I can count them on one hand. And then I can think of easily 20 titles that have 'some' pvp but not forced pvp, and at least 20 more with completely open FFA pvp.
Forgotten players? I laughed.
Gaming? That's not gaming! That's just people sat 'round in costumes drinking...
What the MMORPG Industry needs is competition, right now it's all about money or selling out... Look at WoW, it's practically dominating the market in terms of figures and I'm not afraid to admit to that at least. But games like that no matter how much of a success it is are not healthy for the industry as a whole, if there is competition then developers and publishers will be forced to make better and more complex and innovative games, not just these stupid grinds that we have now.
Quoting people doesn't make you clever, in fact, it makes you all the more stupid for not bothering to read the quotes you post in the first place.

Well.. right, the term "pvp" is rather irritating in this circumstance.. he meant player which bring everything on the line to push back the boundaries in a player driven world, and have an effect on it, with and against other players/groups... but because it is just to long to write it every time almost everyone says just pvpers, or hardcore pvper. And this "pvp" is not just about fighting/combat, it is about economy, about politics, well about almost everything in the game. Or "true pvp" or "hardcore pvp" or whatever you will call it else.
What you talk about is.. well, it is pvp, but it is more of a duel, what the most games implement. You fight, and only fight, in forced boundaries, choosen time, and duel against other players. Noone hurt, noone is affect from, nothing happend.. but if i, or the most here want just something like that, we would maybe choose a game, where at least the fighting/combat is with a little bit more skill, like in fps or rts games, because the "pvp" in most games, which you think about, do not offer more than a normal multiplayer game(with less skill involved, too.. mostly just item dependent, and withit just time dependent), although it would be much more possible in a mmo.. and that is, what we want, and what we call pvp. But yeah, the term "pvp" is overused, and not well suited for what we want or look for.
And now, how much games are out there which offers, what we want? UO was a ok first step, Asheron Call Darktide was not as bad, Shadowbane was concept-wise a good step forward, but incredibly bad realized, bugridden, laggy, with shitty graphic.. and all, and a few concept-bugs. And finally EvE(at least decent), in a sci-fi theme.. and after it? Nothing.
The point is.. almost noone can understand what we want, or about what we talk.. maybe because they are used to what is offered nowadays, maybe because they are unable to think about the possibilities in a mmo/virutal world, maybe because they only know WoW, or because they do not look for competition/immersion in a virtual world aka sandbox. But in the very beginning of mmos/muds/virtual world it was everything about this kind of pvp, and not those duels, which is now called pvp. But my apology, not everyone plays this kind of games for years, so it is not your fault to know absolute nothing about it.
Edit: Maybe we should define a new term, to seperate the men from the boyz(just a phrase and a joke ).. "sandox pvp" sound rather ok, to me, and quite neutral, and not as aggressive and misinterpreting like "hardcore pvp". We are not the tough bad asses(ok, maybe we are, but that another story and total irrelevant) and griefer, elitists, and what not the most think about, if they hear "hardcore pvp". We just enjoy a full immersive pvp experience with a lot of consequences.

Darkfall: coming never to no game store near you.

Certainly the last hope for all us old pvp mmorpg gamers looking a game like uo or ac/dt - DF is the only sandbox pvp mmorpg coming up.
