Where can I find thread? (The crafting kind)

So I want to do some crafting. I'll get straight to the point...

I need to make some armours. To make them I need some cotton threads. I can't find any. I've been googling and it appears I can't find the answer. So can anyone tell me where I can find/buy threads?

    It's a rare drop from monsters.  In 20 hours of playing I might have seen 3 cotton threads.

    This was driving me batty for a bit not being able to find string to buy anywhere. Up until level 10, I had only ever received 1 cotton thread from a drop. However, shortly there after, I got a quest to kill big blue turtles, and they were dropping the thread fairly regularly. Well I got 6 threads after killing 20 of them for the quest. Sorry I cant remember the specific names of the turtles or the lake, but they were about level 11.

    Also, then for the fur you need for tailoring, I wasn't finding any of that until a quest to kill wolves around that same level.

    Okay I'll keep my eyes open.

    EDIT:

    I have also found something that drops cotton thread. I got about five in an hour so it's not that good but it's something. Ghost Deserters.
