I could see it being cool as long Harry Potter was no where in the title.  Adding in brooms and stuff and recognizable places I actually. I... has potential. Its all Im saying. Potential with a capital P!

Nah... Maybe sometime in the future when you put on a helmet and gloves and connect to the internet as yourself... Then it could work as a pretty cool MMO with you having to remember wand-movements by yourself and so forth. But as of now, the game would be too complicated. Just think of the Ministry of Magic and all of their rules that would have to apply, to be true to the lore... Should everyone go to Hogwarts? Only children go there, but if you are an adult what "class" would there be for you to choose from? I'd reckon most people would want Auror to be an alternative, and then the  Death Eaters, if they still exist (haven't read the last book yet), to be their main target for PvP. And think of all the different spells and potions out there. Should you be able to learn all of them? Maybe just a few, but that again would be stupid... There's lots more to think of, but you get my point. A Harry Potter MMO would be too complex, if it were true to the lore, and too sucky if it wasn't...

Just don't see how it would work as a MMO.  In the Harry Potter world you can't just be running around killing stuff, just wouldn't fit.  So what would you be doing most of the time?  What would you do for end-game fun?

I can see it already.... they'll copy WoW, but instead all the characters will have glasses and wands.

Yeah, it would be very hard, and I really doubt Rowling would be that stupid as to pull a George Lucas on her IP there. In many ways, it reflects many parts of her personal life (real life experiences with loss of loved ones, depression and etc), so why should she give a license to a book series that is public, yet personal, journey for her as an author and a human being? I would frown at any attempt, tbh. But I thought of one way you could do it: without Harry Potter. It could be set in his world, after the fact post-epilogue of HP7, with complex magical systems (potion making and all the other 'mancy'-s), and complex damage/combat systems (imagine focus driven duels versus focus + real life force driven duels and etc). None the less, I would be staunchly against anything set in the same time frame as Harry Potter himself.

Any half witted game developer would target the game for kids as that is where they would get most of their money.

Because of this the world would be populated by mostly pre-adolescent children.

Have you ever seen a bratty child that has gone around pretending to cast spells? Have you? It gets annoying fast.

I don't even need to explain any further.

MMM an mmo where i can cast spells to repairs some 1's broken spectacles or shoot fireworks from the back of my broom mmm

I guess it could work but would be limited as to what you can do i mean it would be all of 1 class MAGE (how exciting) and every 1 going around shooting of fizzles and shizzles

If they were to make 1 i would not base it on Harry Potter but more so in the world in which Hogwarts resides thus the developer is not to much lore stricken and could add some more classes e.t.c. and a little excitement i mean you watch the movies and think okay this is good but it could have been so much better if it were not so limited (i know what the whole story is about so please don't go getting all harry on me ass)

I think if any 1 does attemp this they may be very well wasting alot of time and cash, as big as this franchise is i don't think they will pull too many numbers.

    My opinion of course.

Somebody will make a hagworts online game, however I don't know who might be the creater or it, but I might think it will be EA. EA done the harry potter single player games, and I wish there was a different company that can make a good hogwart online game. What I expect from Hogwarts online will be gameplay, sandboxes, and a storyline. I want to play this game in eaither during the harry potter's travals and stuff or an epilogue after the last book.

I don't expect much haters or those that like to attack the game cause of their immaturity or religion, most people real likely play this and have fun with it in many things you can do. With multiple skills and depending on your skills is your main class, you can use these skills to combat evil wizards or creatures that are hostile, and so forth. However I wonder if they can really put some effort in this mmo and add something that is not from the book (like lands besides hogsmead or the forbidden forest) and allow to learn some other stuff from different Schools.

has anyone ever seen a good game based off a movie/book

well i digress, i have hear lotro is pretty good, and i am all for any type of game so long as it is well made and fun

but im always cautious when it comes to any pre-existing IP or a game based on pop-culture because they usually just evolve into the lowest form of gaming around

like I said, it's up to the creater, It be great if he have read the books, and good at making mmorpgs. That way we have a most likely chance that the creater can make a perfect Hogwarts Online game. It could be something like a lesser Darkfall Online if did well.

An MMO would run in to the same problems that have plagued the single player Harry Potter games.  There just isn't much combat that fits in to the story line.  The game would be placed in Hogwarts and you would end up doing quests that ask you to complete homework or other such boring tasks.

Not to get off the subject to much. But how did yall like the ending of the book?

  • roundheadroundhead Member Posts: 48

I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but most social, multiplayer games shy away from having playable characters that are children.  It is not hard to guess why.

A Harry Potter game would have the vast majority--maybe all--of the playable characters as children.  It would get creepy to the nth degree.

It might work as a non-violent, child -oriented MMO ala Toon Town, but can't see it as a mainstream adult game.

Haha. Just imagen all the frigin Harry Potters riding around playing quidditch against each other, fighting to see who's the best. I would play for the entertainment of watching but regret the download size.
