I was so excited to download the trial when I founded out they needed stuff like last name, phone number, city, address, etc. Why the hell should I give this away?
Is there a way to play the trial without giving this away?
Or better yet, is it ok to give away false information (except e-mail) without something happening, or I may not recieve something?

You should be able to play the trial even if you give false information - they're not exactly checking up on that stuff. But, if you want to turn your trial account into a fully paid account, and you can't change that information, you might hit a few snags with billing.
Heh, guess if I do decide to play this game I'll need a new account. Thanks.
I'd recommend to put down true city, adress, and most important. You can false-detail it with name, but you must give your real email-adress and I'm not sure about phone number. Oh and after trial, get the real WoW =P. Worth trying. Oh and go to everquest overview and click on the thread 'EQ or WoW' and see what people have to say about both games. Might help you decide if WoW is really your game.

Thanks for the info. It's the phone number that I don't get. Why would they need my phone number for billing? Also, I can understand why true city, but why address?
Btw, I'd love to try WoW, trust me, it's just I'm waiting on WAR, and my parents would kill me if I stopped playing the game I only got 6 months earlier. I may get it when WAR is burned out for me though.
Bump, read last post.
If privacy is that big of a concern to you, I suggest just not playing the game. You can't play without giving that information. I don't know why the hell they need it; chances are nobody here does either. Did you email Blizzard to ask why the hell they needed it? They'd know better than any of us.
Hi, welcome to your first day on the internet. Yes, give false info except for email address until you plan on giving them money with a credit card.
"It is in your nature to do one thing correctly; Before me, you rightfully tremble. But, fear is not what you owe me. You owe me awe." ~Francis Dolarhyde
The address is part of the Credit card verification process and so is the phone number and so forth , they are all linked and thus for if they dont believe you are the true holder they can match these details up and to be honest with you, your probably gonna need to do the same with WAR when it comes out so you may as well either hand over the details and start playing OR be sceptical about handing them over and miss out on what could be the most exciting thing in ya life till WAR arrives.
But do remember that all that has to be true is your email address unless you are willing to carry this character over with the real game which then you will need to give proper details as some can not be changed.
For some of the "free trials" you have to put credit card information. I don't like entering my credit card for anything that I won't buy. I'd rather pay $10 for a trial account. Blizzard isn't the only company that requires this information, Mythic also requires it for a trial for DAOC.
But really, come on... you serious about this?
Playing: Archlord
Played: EQ1//EQ2//WoW//GW//L2//GB//RS//LoTRO//VG
Waiting For: **WAR**
And that's why I don't try any of these games. I would like to know how many more people never play such "trials" ... 1 or 2 out of 10 potential customers might be lost by insisting on credit card information.
