...but I'm having trouble finding an MMO I'd like. In the past I've liked AC2 and FFXI especially, for their immersion and because they actually seemed to tell a story (vaults/missions, etc.) and had great atmosphere. I quit the first because that died and the latter at level 50 because there's no solo content and I don't like having to wait around for people to come online to have fun.
I've tried WoW till level 45 and liked its ease of gameplay and solo content, but found it lacking in the atmosphere I've come to expect from FFXI, so I didn't really get into it.
Any suggestions? I would LOVE for a new FF MMO but I don't see that happening pre 2010 >.> One thing I must stress is that I loathe generic fantasy, which turns me off a lot of MMOs. Style is important to me.

Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and consciencious stupidity.
Your stupid pathetic attempts to advertise this crap to gain whatever it is you gain by bringing in people will not work here, in fact, I'll make sure a bunch of people join just to flame you and talk crap about you until you cry and stop playing.
WOOF!
What made you quit FFXI if you don't mind my asking. I played AC2 as well, you may like DAoC. I liked DAoC a lot but didn't have anyone to enjoy it with, so I ended up quitting.
As I said, I quit FFXI because there's no solo content and I don't like having to wait around for people to come online to have fun. Standing around Jeuno half the time gets old fast. =/
ryzom ?
CoX ?
there's really not a whole lot of mmos that aren't generic fantasy. i guess a few others you can try would be planetside, face of mankind, necron 2, and dare i even say the matrix (if it's still up)

Hm.. what I meant was MMOs that are just like every other fantasy MMO I guess.

Gonna try Ryzom now, downloading
good luck with it.
please just have an understanding that this game does NOT hold your hand. it's an open world skill based game, trekking, exploring, and harvesting are very large parts of this game. it has a GREAT community and they're always willing to help, find a guild that suits your style, both in play and in personality and you'll have a great time.

I think I'm going to suggest some MUDs for you folks. >:3
http://www.bat.org <-- one of the older MUDs on the 'Net today. It's a bit complex, but very fun. To fully understand it, READ THE HELP FILES.
http://mume.pvv.org <-- Before LOTRO, before all the Peter Jackson movies, there was M.U.M.E. (Multi-Users of Middle Earth). This MUD is set fifty years before the Hobbit, so you live in a world in the calm before the great 'wars' that marked the end of the Third Age. You can play the typical hobbit, elf, dwarf, or human sub-races, but you also can play a troll (perma-death on sunlight), orc (various clans), and evil human races. PVP in this game is very harsh (full loot the last time I checked).
http://www.aardwolf.com <-- A typical ROM based MUD, but it has a few twists on each of the typical classes (Fighter, Mage, Cleric, Thief, and Psionicist) through their subclassing specializations (Thieves can master specialized poisons and what not). It's very newbie friendly and casual.
http://discworld.atuin.net/lpc <-- Here's a MUD worth playing (next to Bat and MUME) just for the humor of it. Being based on the discworld fiction, this MUD reflects much of the humor of it, even in the Guilds (especially between the mages and witch guilds). If you're a Discworld fan, then this MUD will be the one for you.
Anyways, I love giving the MMO-great-grand-dads their props, enjoy. ^_^
