Might be getting WoW! Need some questions answered

AguyAguy Member Posts: 561

Yay!  Ok so,

1) I want to be a dwarf, but I've heard the horde is more mature then the Alliance, and the alliance is overopulated.  Could you give me a % on how overpoped they are, and tell me what you think of the alliance and horde as a community?

2) Can I make more then 1 character with a single account, therefore not have to pay for a new character?

3) How much money is the original game and how much is The burning crusade?  I mean why get this game without the expansion pack.

4) I know that no game lasts forever and will eventually get boring.  About how long do you think I will play this game until I get bored?  Keep in mind the only MMOG's I've played are runescape, WWIIonline and navyfield.

5) Do people use teamspeak often?

6) What's the average age of a player?

Thanks!

Speculations. Pick whatever feels right for you.
    2) Can I make more then 1 character with a single account, therefore not have to pay for a new character?
     Yes.
    3) How much money is the original game and how much is The burning crusade?  I mean why get this game without the expansion pack.
Browse the web for prices. TBC material is not available until level 58 (this will most likely take you quite some time to reach) except for the two new races available in TBC (Blood Elf and Draenei) and their starter zones, you really don't need the expansion pack in order to enjoy the game.

    4) I know that no game lasts forever and will eventually get boring.  About how long do you think I will play this game until I get bored?  Keep in mind the only MMOG's I've played are runescape, WWIIonline and navyfield.
I think WoW will easily keep you occupied until "the next big thing" comes along.
    5) Do people use teamspeak often?
Yes, in guilds/raids/, but not a must.
    6) What's the average age of a player?
No clue. The community is immature, that I do know.
    Thanks!

This may tend to be the case but you will find plenty of mature and immature players on each side. Alliance tends to outnumber horde on most servers just because most players are compelled to play the "good" guys, but this shouldn't impact your game play in any way, shape, or form.
    2) Can I make more then 1 character with a single account, therefore not have to pay for a new character?
Yes. You can make several different characters on several different servers. The only limitation is you can't have both a horde and alliance toon on the same PvP server.
    3) How much money is the original game and how much is The burning crusade?  I mean why get this game without the expansion pack.
You can find the original game online and in many gaming stores for $9.99 at this point.
    4) I know that no game lasts forever and will eventually get boring.  About how long do you think I will play this game until I get bored?  Keep in mind the only MMOG's I've played are runescape, WWIIonline and navyfield.
This really depends on your play style. If you play obsessively, you can max out a toon in a month or so. If you're an adult with a job or a more casual player, it'll take you a couple months. Endgame in WoW gets dull and monotonous fast, but if that's your thing, this game can probably occupy you for quite some time.
    5) Do people use teamspeak often?
Teamspeak or Ventrilo are not necessary to enjoy WoW, but most guilds use one or the other for raiding.
    6) What's the average age of a player?
It's a wide range. I'd say your average WoW player is somewhere between 15-35(?) That said, I've grouped with 10 year olds and people well into their sixties. The good thing about the large amounts of people who play WoW is it doesn't take very long to find a niche of like-minded individuals who share your maturity level and/or gaming schedule.
    Thanks!

Thank you so much guys!  I just have one more question I forgot to add:

Is it possible to simply buy an authentication key online instead of going out to the store and buying the game?  If so, how much?

This used to be true for the first year WoW was out. It's not an issue any more, although you still get in battlegrounds faster as horde.
    2) Can I make more then 1 character with a single account, therefore not have to pay for a new character?
You can make up to 10 characters on 1 server (50 characters maximum) on a single account.

    3) How much money is the original game and how much is The burning crusade?  I mean why get this game without the expansion pack.
It varies a lot depending on where you get it from and where you live. Try amazon for a decent price.
    4) I know that no game lasts forever and will eventually get boring.  About how long do you think I will play this game until I get bored?  Keep in mind the only MMOG's I've played are runescape, WWIIonline and navyfield.
Again it depends on your play style. It has a bit of everything and has very good raiding content as end game, so if your into it  you can keep playing for a bit. If raiding isn't your thing then there's always pvp, although dedicated pvp games will be releases soon, such as Warhammer Online and Age of Conan, but they focus mainly on pvp.
Most important thing is to get into a decent guild and try make some good friends.
    5) Do people use teamspeak often?
In the next month or so they are going to implement VoIP, so you won't need Teamspeak or Ventrillo as it will be included within game. If you are into raiding then you will use it all the time, and organised pvp groups will also use it. Not sure how the general community will take to VoIP for small group content.
    6) What's the average age of a player?
In my guild most are around 19-46, although we have 2 16 year olds and a few 50+, so it really depends on who you play with. I've never seen a sensus on average wage for wow so anything you hear on this subject will be speculation.
    Thanks!

Thanks guys, now all that's left is convincing my parents to get it for me.

  • ThunderballsThunderballs Member Posts: 365

The best way to convince your parents to get you this game is to tell them it is played by over 8 million people from 4 to 104.

If you take the time to find people in the game that can teach you something about real life you could pick up a lot of experience.  Where else are you going ot get the experience and expretise of being taught one on one with so many talented people - certainly not at School.

A lot of people miss this aspect/advantage which is quite possibly why they play games all day.

Whatver you are after youll find some people in WOW with the same outlook as you.

When you do start playing - continue the research.   Lot on the web to hlp you.  with 8 muillion playing remmbre you are not going to be "good" for a long time unless you learn to play. and can put in hours of gameplay.  Being 'Good' isn't getting higher level players to "boost" you in Deadmines etc, donate gold or help you on quests.

Fotunately - intelligent players can outpace and out shine the majority reasonably quickly.

Oh and go on a PVP or RP-PVP server - the rest are for pansies that fail to see the hypocritical nature of making themselves a big butch wow character and not having the balls to deal with a be of PVP from anothe human being every once in a while.

And on the cash front - How about actaully making money from WOW and repaying your parents the cost of the game and paying for your own subscription/generating your own business income after a few weeks play.

Thats easy Son.    Stop asking and start doing/offering things for/to them.

fiv year olds went to work 100 years ago.   They could earn $$ , so can you and a lot easier and faster than kids could 100 years ago.

I see alot of people say that, But from what i've seen, the PVE horde and alliance (on the servers i played) was alot more mature, and the PVP horde and alliance was pretty bad. The best of the ones i played alliance on was Stormrage high population for alliance so the AH is pretty cheap compared to most.and for PVE horde i would roll on Area 52 seem to be alot more horde on that one than alliance (wich is rare on any server). I've tried PVP servers but they got on my nerves quick and i'm not talking about all the corpse camping just the people in general.
    2) Can I make more then 1 character with a single account, therefore not have to pay for a new character?
WoW probably has the most character slots of any game out there i did some how manage to hit the cap (get bored make something new late at night then never play it) it was probably around 30 or so alts. and i think you're allowed 10 characters per server (1 for every class with 1 extra slot)

    3) How much money is the original game and how much is The burning crusade?  I mean why get this game without the expansion pack.
I recently heard the original game dropped to $10 not sure about TBC

i played it for over 2 years pretty steady (everyday)

    5) Do people use teamspeak often?
i do but mainly because its just easier to talk than to type and run/fight

    6) What's the average age of a player?
thats anyones guess my guild average is mid 20s but we was all from another game.

    Thanks!

I really appreciate all the help guys, thank you.

Also, I just got another question (lol)

    1)  Are the RP servers full of nerds?  How is the community different here?

    2) if I'm not on a PvP server, can I still fight enemy characters in certain areas?  Also, on PVP servers, can I do quests and PvE stuff?

    3)  In PvP servers, is every place a PvP zone?

  • ASmith84ASmith84 Member Posts: 979

I'm playing this till WAR comes out.

  • ElestikElestik Member Posts: 5

Ok man heres how it goes this game is awesome its all up to you there are so many things you can do to make your world better when i get bored i get  a group of friends and go fishing, lol. As far as quitting goes i dont see why you would quit until you reach 70 and although theres alot of people talking shit about it this game is fun forever as long as you live it the way YOU want to as far as the community goes you can find someone from every social class and age. if you are only getting this game to hold off  WAR dont do it, if you are a good, fun loving player youll be on this game for a hella long time. To get your parents to get this game tell them that this could be a big birthday present or whatever and that its the only main thing you want the game is 20$ BUT it includes a month's service- 14.99 so its only 5 bucks TBC is about 30 bucks i think so its only 35 bucks for the game actually and if you buy membership in longer packages you can get it for like 12 a month Finally if you do join i suggest that when you look for a server to join, choose Anvilmar. It is a pretty laid back cool community and either horde or alliance i have friends and myself that can help you learn the game and become good at it!!!! i HIGHLY encourage you to get this game and really PLAY it.

  • ElestikElestik Member Posts: 5

I TAKE THAT BACK!!!! join UNDERMINE sever its almost equal horde and alliance=fun roleplaying and PVP =D

  • AguyAguy Member Posts: 561

Oh god, I'm really screwed now.

I need something to play until WAR is released, but apparently this game will last me much longer.  So I have some options.

1- Get WoW, play until WAR comes out.  Most likely undoable.

2- Play WoW till I get bored then get warhammer.  I wanted to be a "day-one"er though.

3- Not play WoW, be bored for 6 months then get WAR.

    AAAHHHH!!!

  • WelchyyWelchyy Member Posts: 12

Its not even fun, don't waste your time and money, this coming from a person who has been playing wow for 3 years.

  • LoupsterLoupster Member Posts: 74

honestly, I think you jumped on the WoW boat kinda late if your planning on being a day-oner for WAR.

WoW is a very good game and regardless of the fact that you might be jumping ships to WAR it could still be a good introduction to MMO's (sorry but runescape just doesn't cut it.)

my best suggestion would be to wait for War (play something f2p like guild wars to stay occupied) but if your not all that serious about changing to WAR as soon as it comes out then for sure give WoW a shot.

I couldn't stand alliance because of the population and especially the population of little kids, but then again, I haven't played WoW in quite a while.

-Snowman <- this name was taken.....but I like it more

Some people play WoW for just a few month....mostly the no-lifers. In my case with a job & friends I got my first toon from 1-60 in about 37 days played (888 hours) and 60-70 in 10 days played (240 hours), that is b4 I got into End game raiding.. but you never know you might love Wow and not want to go to WAR in 2008 and remember WoW Expansion 2 should be out about the same time WAR launches.

I say give it a whirl what you got to lose?

Well if you need a quick fix try last chaos tales of pirates/pirate king online Shot online international,  but this shit didnt even last me a week.. guild wars may be good for you but i dont know man theres nothing wrong with becoming a WoW player and forgeting WAR altogether..... its all up to you i cant make up your mind for you

  • RizlawRizlaw Member UncommonPosts: 150

I suggest you play WoW. The latest figures show that there are 9 million players in WoW. This is the best MMORPG going and it's not going no where.

Some of the critics are just criticising for the sake of it. WoW is the ultimate gaming exprerience out there. Give it a go and see for yourself.

You can try WoW for free for 10 days, you dont need creditcard to activate. You just need to download it, about 4 GB I think

    Clicky

    yea try WOW

  • alyndalealyndale Member UncommonPosts: 936

First off, you will have varying ages in both Horde and Alliance.  Never take "hearsay" seriously.  You will find many that are well into their 30's and 40's with children that play right along with them.

WoW is a very good MMO to get started on, lots of great graphics and humor.  The community is generally very good. Yoiu will find basically 3 types of guilds; Family, Raiding, and PvP.  Decide what part of this historic game you'd like to try and go for it...pick a good strong guild and log into their Teamspeak or Ventrilo.
