i played this game when it first came out.. i think it was 5 or 6 years ago and it was fun but the graphics were terrible, came back 2 years after that, improved, but still not that many people playing and lag was still a huge issue
so hows the game running now? im looking for a good fpsmmo and right now this is the only one that is out there.

It runs better than ever and the graphics are much improved. Take another look. You'll like what you see.
Graffics have a minor improve my fps is top dollah!
It is hard to tell if a man is telling the truth when you know you would lie if you were in his place
The game had/has a GREAT community of real life Veterans, history buffs, etc. When I used to play, 2 years ago, I remember countless nights of battling it out, running across kill zones to overwhelm an enemy position. I remember gathering a strike force in the woods somewhere, (out of sight of the German scouts), in order to plan an effective assault on whatever city. I've seen like 15-20 tanks and numerous arty pieces gathered together along with the boots on the ground preparing for the assaults. The map of the game is HUGE, try running from town to town...it 'll take you more than an hour, but find a buddy driving truck or tank and just hop on for a ride, and some protection lol.
I can't speak for the game in it's current state as so much has been implemented since I stopped playing (stopped playing because I myself went into the US Army and didn't have much time anymore for games). But the memories have made me recently want to say screw it and become a weekend warrior ingame. The sheer awe factor I have gotten with this game hasn't been surpassed by any other game since. Seeing bomber formations get broken up by some enemy fighters (while on the ground looking into the sky), fighting for a town all night and finally succeeding by morning, only to have to prepare for the inevitable counterattack, as the German players in game are notorious for. And I can't leave out the ranking system, In my squadron (WW2OL's guild/clan thing) every rank had a duty to fulfill just like in the real life Army...privates were given a boot camp training session in game, sergeants looked out for those under them and our commanders and officers planned with other squadrons the attacks and defenses of strategic areas.
There were a couple of things I had issues with, but most of my issues were just me yearning for a more gamely experience and less a sim. Such as the good ol' instantaneous black screen when you got annihilated by a shell or sniped. In real life there's no "hit indicators" and in game I don't remember much of a hit indicator either, which added to the sim feel. I never hated ANYTHING about the game mind you, and only have good memories of it.
If you say there wasn't a bunch of people playing did you look for the correct areas? There will be little to nobody anywhere else but the frontline. Save for a few resource people and fighter/bomber/para squadrons. If you get the game again try clicking on the towns with a "contested" icon on them...there were times I'd log in and the entire town was under attack from all sides...getting out of the SP was enough to through your hands up in triumph, only to get the black screen because you didn't cover yourself properly once you got out.
I hear so much has been added like bridge destruction, Americans (could be wrong) and a lot more. True the game can be a bit overwhelming at first, but from my experience there is always at least SOMEONE willing to help in game, and if not, MMORPG.com has a more than decent crowd from WWIIOL, and they'll help you hands down. The game is in my opinion not solo friendly at all, just because of the, "WTF" factor you'll go through, but get yourself a good squad and you'll be storming the gates in no time.
I played this game back around release and then about 6 months later and it was not any fun for me...Nice concept but the grapahics were bad (even back then) and running 30 minutes to get killed by a sniper or something else you can't even see was such a pain. I suspect it would be a lot more fun if you were in a squad/clan but It's hard for me to play a game that requires others to have any sort of fun. Every one has there own style of gaming, what they like / dislike, this was just not my style of gaming.

I tried this game back awhile.. to be honest I couldnt find anyone or learn to do anything . I remember running in the forest for hours and not seeing a soul lol. Seems like a cool game I just didnt know anyone to help me out. Friends are what make games for me now.
I do have to agree with you guys somewhat. When i first played the game I was like, "What in the heck is going on?" But a little devotion made the game so interesting for me. The game world is the entire map of Europe just scaled down (I forget the exact ratio) so trying to find people running around is going to be a lost cause except if you are near the frontlines (On the official website they have an updated map of the current goings-on in the war. And where the frontline stands) Everything in game, from aircraft, to ships, to tanks and infantry is someone playing online, and the game has no type of instances from what I remember. In some ways the game doesn't belong on MMORPG.com because it's not exactly an RPG, and might lead some to false expectations, it does have elements of one but at the end of the day it's the best WW2 sim ever (in my opinion).
The chat window states what towns are under attack and whatnot, so those places would be the first places to check. And like I said before the game map has icons to let you know which bridges have been blown up and which towns have been recently under attack. Not to mention there is the EWS (Early Warning System i think) that also let's you see a sort of intelligence report about what enemy has recently been spotted around town.It takes a bit of devotion to get over the learning curve, but the game creates some memories no other game could compare to.
One of the funniest memories I have is when I first started playing. I spawned in a town FAR from the frontline. And was running around, not finding anyone either lol. I looked up into the sky and saw a red circle and BF109 beside it. Not knowing what it was, and assuming that red is bad, I took a few popshots at the UFO. Next thing I saw was the great part. The BF109 crashed just outside of town, and I thought I had actually shot it, however I was still wondering what the enemy was doing so far away. Turns out a small squadron of English fighters appeared in the sky (blue circles) around the town and had chased my "UFO" from a recent battle. The next day when I logged in, the town I was in the night before, was now a part of the frontline battles. I then understood that what's safe one second can quickly change for the worse. It wasn't but a few weeks later that the German's had pushed us Allies back to England and the game server reset, meaning the enemy's victory.
The thing that annoys me the most is fighting all night for a town only to wake up to play the next day, and no one defended the town and it's now in the enemy's hands. The German Army in the game used to whoop our butts every other day, but I saw some great battles, in small towns and big cities. I've seen some great tactics used to take towns...like wave after wave of panzers just overwhelming our defenses. True blitzkrieg fashion IMHO.
To sum it up,
"Uh oh...an AI gun is firing. Grab your britches, here they come boys."
Check the game forums this week... they are making a photo shoot of the new graphics effects coming in the current Open BETA.
You can also suscribe yourself to the newsletter by mail... they send repots about the status of th game every two weeks or so... with pictures and links to videos.
This is a great game to come back to. The community is amazing, everyone is friendly, about 1% of it is morons, that's it. And the game itself is fun IF YOU KNOW WHERE TO GO. My advice is only go to the towns your side is defending with heavy ews, or any town your side is attacking. Large town attacks can be fun if you know how to play them right.
Your also going to have to find which branch you like the best. For most it's the ground, but there is more then enough pilots. Were also lacking navy guys. Navy is fun if you can find a battle, trust me, fmb vs. fmb battles or DD battles are the best.
Graphics have taken a very signifigant turn for the better. You hardly recognize the game if you played it in 2001. They are no longer a serious flaw. Are they dazzling? No. Are they a piece of crap? Absolutely not.
Come back to this game, and find your place in it, whether it be an RDP bomber, supply cutter (go LRAT!) or the guy that tows ATGS, there's probably a place for you.
The only times I ever played this game and COULDN'T find someone on my side of the war was when I first started playing years ago. This is the one game, in my opinion, where you actually get a sense of accomplishment out of. It could take 4+ hours of heavy fighting to take a big city, But then it's yours, and you get resource benefits from it, more sappers/tanks/etc. to use on the front lines. That is until you lose it to the Gerry's again, which will happen LOL...eventually.
Well I know what's going into my quote now.
Also, it's much more then 4+ hours of fighting for big cities. Axis recently took Metz, a large city, and people say the fight lasted around 17 and a half hours.
Yes Metz its a good stratigic city, remember that i went to bed when the attack startet, when i woke up 8 hours later the close city combat was still blazing, amasing!
It is hard to tell if a man is telling the truth when you know you would lie if you were in his place
With the largest player base it has ever had, and with new tiers of planes and mortar installments in the next few weeks and with the updated graphics, I would say Yes. It has never been better.

the game is one sided and no where near a balance allies will never win unless axis switch sides to play .
Crs monitor every word on there forums to the point you could call it communist run .....go ahead say one word bad and they will ban you faster then U can blink a eye. Even if its just a general coment felt by all . only posative words you get are by the same few peaple every time ....allied side has so few players now that on rare ocasions they make any advance ...and by time you log in ...again ...your several towns father back then where you started or ended day before.
I can go on and on basicly what u have is a game that can not keep up with the game or players needs to progress ...i see peaple leave and unsubscribe from game allmost daily ....there are very few day one players left in game and vew leaders willing to put up with crs ways ...game was originaly put out to be play based run ..thats a joke ....ask anyone who been around long enough and you will hear the same thing . Ck it out for yourself.
Game is headed to the trash can. will be nothing more then a memory like warbirds is .

CRS updates every 6-8 weeks unless it is a major update like 1.27 that is in open beta now. Where you get your out of date information is surely not from being an active member. The theatre is german french brit ..beginning in 1939 to approximately 1942 with multipul tiers of equipment that must be researched and manufactured. This sim has been online for 6 years and still is viable. Many who proclaimed its death are no longer being listened to. I use to read that type of post 5 years ago. Welcome to 2001 yall.
well. I am back in the game now. and yes worth to test it. but I do recommend join a big squad in your time zone. ask for active numbers. look for a big teams. 1.27 will be the first time Allied and Axis almost have the same condition. just the to sets of: radio ch, leader, equipment, left to handle. and maybe just maybe the Allied playerbase and AHC can grow and be stable.
and if we then only can enlarge the playerbase, will the game be incredibly
It seems you have no clue what so ever.
Since it is a game that is under constant development will there always be bugs (WWII Online isn't a finished product you know). Why? See below.
Since August 2002 have WWII Online seen 21 major upgrades (1.6 to todays 1.27), plus countless point releases to these major upgrades. That is over four major upgrades every year. Lets repeat that, over four major upgrades every year in five year now. And CRS will continue with new major upgrades as long as it exist. There is so much to add to this very complex game, there is no end to it. You need to understand this and learn to accept it, or it isn't for you.
Please give us one single example of any game that have such a history of a steady stream of major upgrade.
Then to this claim of yours that WWII Online is "still in 1941" as it would be nothing. I can tell you that no other game is as advanced as WWII Online in to the smallest detail. Therefore does it take alot of time to do proper and accurate research for new vehicles (this isn't as easy as some seems to think it is). Then when the research is done will it take alot of workhours to not only model but to make new weapon and vehicles to behave as its historical forerunner did.It is not about to model a vehicle with a skin that "looks like a real WWII vehicle". It is far more complex then that.
To add just one new fighter for the three countries (that new fighters) that is created from scratch will take at least six months. How many fighters, bombers, tanks, trucks, tanks and ships do you find the game? The numbers is pretty impressive. Considering that all the vehicles is the best and nearest of the historical dito in any game has the very small team of CRS done a tremendous work.
Add to this that the game world bigger then any other game you can find. Not even WoW comes close to the game world in WWII Online. Since the game world is so unbelievable vast (the western Europe in scale 1:2 holding over 500 villages, towns and major cities), together with a numbers of game mechanisms and features is WWII Online not only a FPS game in general where real tactics is sx be applied. It is also a game that is created to apply strategy that only can be found in Strategy games like Hearts of Iron-series and likewise.
But ok, you just don't like WWII Online. That is fair by me. It is not everybodies cup of tea, we all knows that. A realistic WWII game isn't for everyone. But in all fairness, why are you hear talking crap about a game you don't understand and don't care about? I don't hang around at all the forums for other games talking crap about these games just because I don't think they will cut it for me. So why do you?
However, now please let us know which game in this genre do you think is better then WWII Online (since it is so bad according to you). Please let us know which World War II First Person Shooter Massive Multiplayer Online Game that is better according to you, because if there is one am I very interesting to try it out.
lmao ...a few of you I see work for CRS . typical response face it there yrs behind ...BTW Jim a day one player ....Jim shur you haven't played that long ........I'm only there for the friends iv known from day one. There's so few left because of all the CRS BS. If you don't play axis you wont win ....if allied wins axis will tell ya straight off it was them that made it happen . All support goes to axis from CRS because it has the biggest player base .
Why ?? Most go axis because they got tired of losing every map reset .....allies's win cause axis switch sides then rub it in allied player base faces.... so what's the point ??? in any one wanting to play a game that makes it impossible to win ?? don't give me that CRS BS line feather the Game has lost so many players it will never balance out to a game where one side has a equal chance to win ....the numbers are not there CRS has killed the game to a point that it wont recover ..only way is to sell it and let someone who's know how to treat player bases equal .....wont happen with CRS their history speaks for itself .
You facts are flawed in so many ways you left out much of the truth . we can argue till the game fails ....If any one wants to see what's its really like go play it sees for your self waste the money ...or if you donate enough they will put a maker in game thanking you for your support ....as for game being unfinished ...ya your right ...where they are now .right now ..was promised over 4 yrs ago ya id say they were behind but for reasons some here state...lol Jim not alone in this out of a squad that once boasted over 260 members only 5 original are still in game ......if the game was Fair we would have more ...we still have over 100 not willing to come back but still monitor in hopes that it will improve. By the time CRS gets a clue all I can say is there are Thank God better games in the works to put WW2OL once considered to be a great game like others before it fade away into history as another failure by its owners.
well. the numbers of bitter Allies players is big.
and I am sorry sparre. but as a naive Axis gamer! you do not have much credibility. even if he is total out of line. and even if you correct. matter of fact is. the game will pass away if CRS and supporters don't see and open discuss the problems.
I can add the capability off you and all your naive Axis number advantage have don equal damage as the game rules (CRS) and I promise, you could help the game much more with helping the Allied side then posting correct smart a.. facts.
still the best game but not so many happy players left.
This sim is not always played to win. I have played Allied for the last few years and rarely "win". I have fun and the "winning' cant take months. Winning is not that important. What do you "win"? A restart. BTW, why would the alliles win an early war sim? The only reason the axis lost is the US entered and Russia drained them. It was not from a lack of quality weapons. The FIGHT is the fun.
Well for some the fight itself is no longer fun, gave it a third try during the recent free trial. Originally I mainly played Allies (started with 3CD) as they were under pop all the time. But once depots and AOs came in, the use of squads died out as massive numbers were needed. Putting depots right beside the CPs was the single most biggest mistake CRS ever did. The resulting camping that was almost required to stop the inf dumping out of the depot and kamakazing the CP had WWIIOL hitting a new low. Before that 3CD and IronWolves had a no camping pact that made some of the best gameplay I ever had in a war game. But after that, lots of squads died out.
Then with mobile spawns added to 'fix' with the depot/cp problem they created, well that killed and defense tactics other than parking people in the CP. No trucking paths to intercept, no ATG on flanks as once one truck got behind you, you're wasting your time let alone easily being taking out with the swarming inf.
Huge map, but 99% combat takes place all withing 500m of city.
Attacks are just swarms from all directions, each battle is a 'save the Alamo'... Nothing even close to resembling battles lines. And a 'well done battle plan' is one where it consists of shooting people coming out the the spawn. Just look at chat. 'LOL, this is so cool, they are dying like flies' and so on. What what you get after waiting 30min to join up on a large attack.
ATGs are still fubar with all the berms and the way foliage and your viewpoint works. And with so much foliage you have no clear view, but as the bushes aren't really real, everything can just drive or walk through them invisably. ATGs can even be defended by friendly inf now as it's so easy to walk up. And of course you STILL can't unman the gun so you're a sitting target. The most unique unit in the game (most FP war games don't model it) and so badly done now.
Tanks park in open because they worry more about the lame Sachel Kamakazi hiding in a bush 1 km out of the town than they do ATGs or enemy tanks that might spot them.
People hiding in bushes for a hour and going to a beer waiting for the announced AO attack because once the MSP swarm is going you won't be getting out. Then when anything parks beside them, charge out, kill a couple and then die.
And of course, the LAG killing the inf gameplay. Shooting people and having them drop two seconds later, dual kills etc.
The inf gameplay got so bad with the lag, MSP swarming, warping, camping, lame sachels/kamakazi etc. I found more structure and tactics and teamplay in the old style FPS with 30-50 player servers (Red Orchestra), for only $20 one time payment.
The only thing left I liked was the AAA as I was a specialist in that for a while, but not worth $15 a month. And even that suffered from the new better bombs while not getting any typical AAA protection like sandbags. So the spray and pray of planes doing manouvers impossible in RL due to game limitations in the physics is even more effective.

'hardcase "The FIGHT is the fun"
i agree it used to be but new players are of such low traing and so new that for me and many others
it was more fun 2 or 3 yts ago then it ia today i miss the old team work and pride that the game no longer provides.
