It has been in for a few months. I do not play archers, so I can only give you what was changed and other people's feedback. After the change, many people started to play them, but I think numbers have returned to around normal. The two big changes involve the archery line and making the classes more alike. For example, all 3 classes now have self buffs (I believe). All archery classes now have the same bow range. The archery line was changed so that the higher you spec, the higher your damage is. Before, it did not matter as much, and at best affected your varience. So now, someone with 50 in archery will always out damage someone with 30 in archery. Arrows were removed and were replaced by a more "spell-like" system. Essentially as you raise your archery skill, you open up new shots, point blank, critical, as well as say a DoT shot. Firing is now only one click instead of click, load the arrow, then click to fire, then click to reload, etc.
Many of the older players complained because it required them to respec their character and some have suggested that even at 50 in bow, damage is lower. Others seem to have taken to the new changes and have no problems and claim that the damage output is higher. The goal was not make archers like archers and not like light tanks and that seems to have worked.
Hmm...makes me want to come back and play my 50 Ranger and Hunter again..... I'd rather do my killing with a bow instead of playing hybrid sword fighter who gets a shot or two off.....

I jumped back in game just long enough to try out my Scout at level 50 with the new archer setup. I have to say I liked it quite a bit, was very effective in PvE and in RvR. The self buffs, and DoTs where both a nice addition, and yes the graphics for the different tpes of shots did look pretty nice, like the flaming arrow and cold arrow effects. I don't know about the other realms but on the Alb side of things I think it was a much needed and very nice change.

The new archery system was a great improvement over the old system by far however there was a update to kind of reduce the DPS output. I don't know what effect it has now becasue I took another break out of the game to try out LOTRO.
I think that the revamp and whether you like it or not.. is going to be somewhat influenced by what realm and server type you play on.
I played on Classics so that's the only point of view I can give.
I had a 50 Ranger that was 50 bow even before the changes. Going back to before they clustered Gareth with the other two classics.. I was able to hit RR5 over 7 days. Pretty much had maybe 500 rp's when I hit 50... I say that to give an illustration of what I used to do.
After Gareth clustered it was kind of messed up for a while. I got to around RR6 before I quit.
I came back in fact for the archery changes.. while I will admit that I made RR6L6 after the changes.. I personally felt that they totally fubar'd the system. So I quit again and will most likely never go back. Many upcoming games I want to play and even if in my view they "fixed" what I thought they broke.. it would be to late (for me).
They pretty much turned Archers into casters.. would be about the shortest description. My damage was so low compared to before the changes its laughable. Yes you can leach at range still.. but the dps is so low you really have to work to kill people.
Tied in with how small (at least in my opinion) the player base has gotten.. it didn't make for much fun. Also as stated after the patch went in there were so many people playing archers... that kind of made it less interesting as well.
I saw the one poster was giving feedback as a 50 scout... I'd say Scouts were the one Archer class that really benefitted from this patch. They were able to have self buffs... and there were also changes made to shields around the time this patch came in.
I'm not sure if anything was changed with shields... but when I played.. well if you didn't see it.. you wouldn't believe it.
I personally thought Hunters got the worst end of the patch but since I didn't play one... it was just how it seemed to me.
You would really have to try the system and things may have changed or been fixed since I played. Just for me.. it was the last nail in the coffin.
Rangers really got nothing on benefit with this. Things are better on the ToA servers because of items to increase your range and damage output. Hunters actually got the most benefit because they had the shortest range.
But the poster before this is a typical response from one segment of the community. Whether it is true or not, the impression is that they can no longer kill people virtually instantly. Archers, are much more like "casters" now but have the longest reach in the game generally. They also have stealth, better armor, and some melee potential.

That was exactly why I never played archers. They were like some sort of weird hybrid of a stealth class and a light tank, with a once per combat ranged attack. It was silly.
Are archers now able to kill mobs reliably using only bow attacks? I really like the LoTRO hunter class, I might be tempted to take up DAoC again if there was something similar.
I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.
Before the changes and after the changes Archers have been able to drop orange mobs using only bows. You just need to get at a good range and make sure you are not attacking mobs that have a high evade rate or something similar.

That is true but before tha archery update you had to be very careful as to which type of mob and how far away you were. Caster mobs and low hit point mobs were easy but get in to a tempter or something in DF with a high resistance and you were toast most of the time. Since the update even OJ tempters are not that bad and taking on several is possible. Previous to update my hunter did around 800 crit to a even con mob and now well over 1000. in fact some drop on one shot. I don't know about PvP but PvE is a lot easier now.

I like the power of the new Archer, but I miss the realism and customization of the old archer. All in all, I prefer the old method.
I liked the uniqueness of the old way, but it was a little awkward at times. I might log back in on my ranger and see how things are going
