I just don't understand something about mmorpgs :(

Ok, I've played a vast number of mmorpgs and all of them have the same little problem that just really annoys me and here it is....

Why is it that in no mmorpg or game in gerneral that I have ever played can you not equip a sheild and a handgun/one-handed gun?

I mean the gun is one handed just like the sword but I just can't equip a sheild with it why?WHY?

I mean I could see the problem with equiping a sheild and say a...bazooka, but just a handgun?

Wait their is one I know of but tis not the same in FFXI you can equip a sheild and bow and arrow or darts/boomerang/rocks But thats the only one I can think of

    Do shields and guns really go together?  But if they do, it seems if I could carry a one handed gun...I'd dual wield for double fire power....

    Well if you were firing and a enemy got to close you'd have extra defence but yea it is a little silly

     

    But what about gunblades that would be a spectacular edition to an mmorpg

    Swat teams often have guys equipped with shield and handgun.  After entry, the lead man that searches areas first has a huge bulletproof shield and a handgun. (who knows what else he has)  The other swat team members follow guys equipped with shield and handgun to duck behind cover of the huge shield.  Very valid tactic in real life.

    Obviously not if they use it in SWAT, SF and SAS.

    Well if you....have it straped to your arm then you could have a free hand

    I agree it would be pretty good to have the ption especially if there was a practicle use for such an optional setup.

    I was going to respond to this and at the time when I first saw this thread, I didn't exactly know how to word this.

    2 guys like this dude with a shield in a handgun start ripping a clip.   k, thats nice, lots of smoke.   Guess whats next?  The billy clubs for hand to hand.

    Although, I gotta give it to ya OP,  It would be quite smart to being a shield to a gun fight.    Not to mention a knife if the other guy has one too.
