I loved playing on Firiona Vei on EQ and I roleplayed quite a bit. Is it similar on EQ2 ? I played EQ2 a year and a half ago and Played up to level 20ish on an RP server and it wasn't that bad. I met a few cool folk.
Current MMO: WoW/GW2

To my knowledge the RP server is the most populated server in EQ2, this can be a good thing or a bad thing depending how you look at it. High population on the server means that you can usually get groups for quests and instances, at almost any time. The downfall of the population of the server would be, more people come to the server because its so populated; meaning that there are less and less people that are there for the RP experience and more people there for the groups. However you said that you Rped in EQ1 and from my understanding that Rping was strictly inforced by the GMs on said server(s) all thought i had never played EQ1 that is just what every one has told me. Eq2 on the other hand is a very causal style of RP people drift in and out of character very seamlessly for the most part, all though there are a number of people that do stay in character for the majority if not all of the time. Of course this is just from my experiences on the server. I currently have a 57 (dinged 20 minutes ago ) wizard on the RP server and i enjoy it quite a bit. If your looking for a decent RP community i would say to either join/start a guild that is centered around the idea. Hope this is helpful

There are two RP servers: Antonia Bayle and Lucan D'Lere. Ant is the more populated of the two, and you will have more of a chance to find RP there, although on LD you will have more of a chance to affect others with your RP if you are inclined to do events and such (due to the fact that there less of these things on LD).
I have found RP on both servers, and enjoyed both, so I cannot really recommend one above the other. Just remember that on EQ2, even on a RP server, RP is voluntary.
Hope you find some good times!
Wow.. the RPpvp server completely slipped my mind
Antonia Bayle is a lot like a new server or new game. A lot of new people play on it.
A lot of very good roleplayers too. Very fun.
