I personally believe sitting around alot, being lazy, and eating alot of fast food has very little to do with most people gaining weight. I think it has more to do with the extremely high prices of fruits, vegetables, and stuff like exersise equipment.

Ill be 22 in August, and every since I got my first PC back when I was 17, ive literally spent 4-12 hours on it A DAY, which is absurd, im one of the laziest people out there. I also eat a reasonable amount of fast food, twice a week usually, more sometimes. And throughout all that ive been the same weights since I was in 7th grade, 180-200 back and fourth. Ive always eaten fruit and vegetables on a regular basis, and I drink alot of juices and milk.

The thing I find interesting about this is that the further back you go the less "healthy" food people ate (supposedly).  And yet the further back you go the less obesity there was.

Now days low fat, low sugar, low calorie stuff is all the craze and yet people are fatter than ever.  Just seems strange to me.

On a related note I recently watched a new reality show called Shaq's Bigs Challenge or something like that.  He rounded up a herd of lard ass kids with the intention of trying to get them to lose weight.  I was looking at those kids thinking, "My God, I couldn't have gotten that fat when I was kid even if I had tried to."

But then I got to thinking about it.  They all live in a city.  I grew up on a farm.  They have computers and cable television.  I had never even seen a computer and we got two channels on the TV.

When I had free time I went outside and found something to do.  My brothers and I built rafts, built "forts", built treehouses, went sledding, rode horses, went hunting, fishing, or just went tromping around in the great outdoors.

What do those poor kids have to do living in that stinking city?  Sit and stare at a TV or a computer.  I don't know, maybe it isn't really their fault.  If I had grown up like that maybe I would have been fat too.

Hey, think I will learn to be a plastic surgeon, specializing in lypo-suction, from the map shown, everywhere should be a good place for that kind of bussiness.

Vanity plus laziness equals more money for me.

Don't you worry little buddy. You're dealing with a man of honor. However, honor requires a higher percentage of profit

To be honest I'm surprised that Indiana wasn't higher...I lived there for a year and saw more fat people than I could count...going back to California I felt like everyone around me was anorexic.  The difference between the size of the people that you see on the street in Indiana and the people you see on the street in California is very marked and very disturbing.

Of course, the solution is to have the government impose themselves in our daily lives and begin to tell us what we may and may not eat.  The government has already seen this as an opportunity to expand itself, as it does with all situations.

That's called personification...not only am I not fat, I also know cool words.

Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

Here at work, I would say 70% of the people are overweight.  It's nuts, and people don't even see anything wrong with it.

Things to blame: Low fat foods, diet foods, instant meals, fa(s)t food, bosu balls, dance classes, crunch machines.

You guys do realise the body Mass Index is full of shit right ?  25% obese ? Yeah you would have to be pretty dumb to believe that, even if it is Texas lol.  Guess what since 85 more people workout and lift weights. Body Mass Index does not take muscle mass into account AT ALL.  It is an old ass system and I have no idea why anyone uses it. Guess what every body builder is obese according to that system.  I guarantee many of you are not even fat but using that totaly unscientific system you would be considered obese.

You cannot really have low fat food that is low sugar, they usally replace the one with the other.

People just exercised more back when there was less fat. We didn't use as many easy machines. Even in factories people had to run all around and do hevey lifting.

I think the best thing to do would be to brain wash the upcoming kids to think running 3 miles everymorning and doing crunches and pushups is better then sex.

    That'd work.

    I do not blame Americans.

Bad educational system, do not teach nutrition.  A lot of food is fatty and processed.  You guys drink Pepsi and Coke a lot, which is probably the number one link to obesiety.  In France, we have a very high fat diet and always have dessert but we are not as obese because we walk more.  You have to drive all over in the USA because your government will not fund your public transportation well enough so you do not have to drive.  In Europe, and the rest of the world, people walk and use trains and things.

Our President, Nicolas Sarkozy, jogs like some Americans do. It is not considered dignified in France, probably because so many French walk so much, but you should jog more in America.

you also do not have public gyms.  So the poor eat food that are high in fat and calories and have no access to health equipment.

    Oh. I forgot.

Many of you do not have health care, so you not only do not receive good education about nutrition and health but have no doctor. lol!

you should see the portion size difference between us and europe

this past month a buddy of mine from germany was here, and he NEVER would finish a meal, and even if he did he would be like "no desert for me im full"

plus, whenever he wanted a snack, he would eat cherries, not like chips or a candybar

that is why america is fat

Portion size is the number 1 reason why American's are fat.  In a lot of European countries they grow up eating a diet that is below the needed calories for their age and size.  They are used to it and the body is resiliant so it adapts.  While my family and I were stationed in Europe we became accustomed to eating European size meals,  when we moved back to America we couldn't finish our meals.  But that is difficult to do because so many of us grew up being told to finish everything on our plate or we were in trouble.  Combining that with large portion sizes is a recipe for fatness.

    Ha! ha!

WE LOVE TO EAT IN FRANCE!  We eat all the time.  We love desserts.  Portion size is a factor but not the number 1 reason.  No education about nutrition.  No active lifestyles.  No public gyms.  No public transportation.  No public health system.

It is not your fault you are fat, America.

Yes well thats the consequence of living in a country in which you do not have to worry about foriegn affairs, staying fit or getting food, etc. If people are getting chubby thats their own fault, they will suffer the consequences and if they really want, they'll hopfully choose to do somthing.

Americans live a way too "care-free" lifestyle imo.
