Like the title ask, is there an mmo with a job class system similar to games like Final Fantasy Tactics or Orge Battle. I'm asking as it would be a change from the usual pick a Knight and your stuck with it for x amount of levels.

Since you like Final Fantasy games why don't you just pick up FF XI it has what you are looking for
FFXI does I think.
Also RO2 will be using a more advanced version.
Never play fftactics..but do you mean in the sense that you can freely switch between classes, or not have any classes at all and just skills?
If so, FFXI you are able to switch classes freely if you wish, though you level them individually.
Saga of Ryzom has no classes and just skill tiers you level up however you wish
Matrix online is similar to ryzom, cept you get points as you level and with them you can choose and change at any point your characters stats and abilities, very nice when you have to go from a heavy hitting brawler to a sneaky hacker for missions.
But can you implement some of the skills of one class into another. One of the things I loved about the job class system was that you could sorta merge skills. For example, you could have a Ninja with the skills of a Geomancer or a Lancer with Summoner abilities. If you can do that in FFXI or Ryzom, I'm game.

In ffxi I dont belive you can do that, if you switch classes you pretty much switch fully to that class unless you decide to change again.
Ryzom theirs no classes/jobs, just skills, and their tiers, so yes the skills you've learned in other tiers are yours permanently no matter how you level up. You can choose to level only the particular ones you want or you can try to learn them all, as far as classes go in that game your have unlimited freedom. Same with their skills sort of, one of their unique features is the option to make your own skills out of certain "stanzas" that make up a skill.
Ryzom has a free trial btw if you want to try it out before paying.
Rappelz has job class system, but they are about to change the game to Epic IV so i dont know how it will be now.
It is a question of fangs.
If I remember correctly, in FFXI there is the sub-job/support job system (so you can have 70 Ninja/35 Warrior), and you can use your warrior's skill up to lvl 35, and you can use all the skill in Ninja.
Current MMO: FFXIV:ARR
Past MMO: Way too many (P2P and F2P)
Yup that is correct, You can use the skills of the sub job up to half of the level of your main job. You can also sub any job and play around with all kinds of different combinations of jobs.
I think in a way you're looking for a game where any class can learn any skill. Think UO is meant to be like that but don't know what that is like to play being 10? years old now.
In guildwars u are able to mix 2 classes but u cant switch class when u have chosen the 2 classes u like to mix
So it sounds like FFXI is the way to go. Now is there a free trial I can find.
Check the FFXI forums, I believe they are running some kind of $3.99 promotion of some sort... but if you really want to try it for free, I suggest you find a friend who is playing and try it out on their account. The game is alot of fun.
I believe FFXI would be your best it offers a combination of class and jobs. Also FFXI offers a huge amount of spells for mages jobs so you can do alot as a mage both solo or in party
