Hey guys I played this at the release for about a month then quit. I thought the game was a bit buggy for me when I played. But theres nothing really out there for me right now, and I'm thinking about coming back to start a new toon.
Just wondering how much have they improved with in the games content and performance?
Also thinking about goin to a pvp server and suggestions to what may improve my chances of surviving out there?

Man your gonna get a myriad of responses here. Best bet is to try and get someone to let you have one of their buddy keys and then use that to test out the games performance and look around at server community's. Maybe check out the PvP server.
The games in a real bad way right now. Some people's performance is nominal. Some peoples performance is worse. Some folks are running it fine. Pops are a bit low but they hope to fix it with a merge. PvP has some balance issues and is not exactly high on the priority list.
I'm sure the other folks here are gonna give you a bunch of a good information as well as blow a whole bunch of smoke up your (well you know what).
Good luck figuring it out.
Bluewolf,
I am in the same boat. Been trying WoW, GW, EQII but nothing cuts it. They all feel like good games, yet I can't convince myself to stay long enough. For WOW it is because i played it for years, for GW it is because I know GW2 is coming and I dont see the point of leveling in GW1 anymore, for EQII I can't find out why but something does not feel right when I play.
So yesterday evening I re-installed VG. My first observation (compared to when i played it BETA and at launch) is that the world hasn't changed much. I could not find anything hugely different in the UI or the game mechanic or graphx. I did see some new options to improve performance, like turning down ALL graphix (high perf setting) yet having the ability to keep high textures (which is a nice compromise).
While i still don't find the char animations all that good i had fun for the 2-3 hours i was logged in. Armors do look good and the music is good too, which combined together when fighting makes for a good experience. Coming from EQII i found immersion in VG to be better than the over-the-top instancing in EQII, which I never realized until now. The Auction house is full of items to choose from, some at low prices, so I guess leveling and getting new stuff won't be too much of a problem (probably up to a certain point).
It's true population is low but there was about 10 ppl online in the starting area, which is comparable to what I was getting in EQII. This should get better as they merge servers (I rolled on Thunderaxe).
SO overall i must say I will definitely stay for a month to give it a good try. It is the only MMORPG out there (today) that makes me feel like my toons evolves in a world, and not a game. I have had crashes to desktop already and did feel some performance hit in some areas, but nothing showstopping at this point.
I'm in for a month at least, then we'll see...
Hope this helps
Sye
Game performance depends on the situation. Some have seen dramatic improvements, some have seen marginal improvements and others have seen no improvement. Personally, I am not crash and hitching free and have picked up around 10 fps on average.
Content has significantly increased in certain areas and spheres. Tough to help ya there unless I know your spheres and levels.
By all means resubscribe! Games never gonna get better with less and less players. (well lag might)
I say you give it a shot, It may spark your old and new interests.

I suggest finding some kind of trial before anything else.

Coped & Pasted from another thread on this forum. Hopefully it will help you out a little. He recently started playing, so this is all up to date information.
Before the Game:
I tried the Digital Download and kept getting errors. Every error cost me about 4-7 hours of downloading time. I finally had enough and bought the box from a store.
The download from the box was relatively fast. The box included a buddy key, a map, and a booklet to help introduce you to the game.
Patch time was a big problem. It took nearly around 13 hours for the game to patch on my DSL connection.
Vanguard forums have plenty of helpful people, not too many trolls. An overall good experience there as well.
SOE seems to be communicating well with its customer base. A relief from prior SOE experiences.
After Starting:
Character creation is moderate. Plenty of things to customize including body proportions, size, hair color, etc.
Numerous amount of races and classes to choose from.
Plenty of starting areas.
I ran the game anywhere from 5-20FPS, which is actually pretty well. That FPS didn't hamper or hinder my gameplay.
My graphics setting is on the one below Balanced (Performance I think). I kept Texture at Medium, which is fair.
I didn't do .ini tweaks, nor do I feel a gamer should have to.
The game is pretty straight forward in nature. It is traditional in the sense that you push on a skills/specials to attack and you can get quests to complete for xp and rewards. There are solo and group quests so far.
This game has some complexity and depth to it. WoW is a game where a MMORPG player can learn it in a day. This game takes more time to learn, but is more rewarding as well.
The community is nice overall and helpfull. You do have some people on region chat that can't help but be smartasses. But if you let that roll off you and reply with something witty, they soften up and turn out to be nice people. So good communication skills help in this game.
I've had one crash to desktop.
Summary:
This game is your run of the mill fantasy MMORPG with a few new or not too often used features that make it worth playing over its predesessors. Those familiar with the MMORPG design will find it easy to get into. Those that are sociable people will find people to talk to. You don't see a lot of people, but I was in the starting area. However, with region chat, you can speak to everyone on your continent, which is pretty active. There are graphical anomilies in this game that will pester you now and again, but nothing that I see as game breaking. I feel that people have exagerated this games unplayability because this is my system and I am running it:
Intel Dual Core 3.0ghz; 1gig of 500mhz RAM; Geforce 7300LE 512mb video card.
I do have a new 7950GT video card on the way along with 3 gigs of 667ghz RAM. So I do expect to be able to play this game on slightly better settings.
This game does have a Beta feel, but is worth the trouble if you are bored of you Fantasy MMORPG and want something to grow into and with.
Thank you,
