These guys are reminding me more and more of how Farlan was acting with D&L before release. My scepticism must be ta mushroom , being kept in the dark and being fed shit is causing it to grow daily. Can't wait till October to see what these boys release, but I sure as hell am not pre ordering.

Thanks for the info Fion.  I don't usually check official forums, so it's good to see they are intouch with how the community feels and letting us know the deal.

AoC has shown us a HELL of a lot more then that over the last few years, so I personally don't expect anything remotely like the D&L fiasco.

No I don't either really , but it is becoming obvious there are issues which are not ready for the light of day. A Vanguardesque release is not too far fetched at this point. I hope like hell I am wrong but I guess I was just expecting to have my socks blown off with E3 if they are still serious about a Oct 31 release. Don't mind me I am just  old and grouchy.

I'm guessing that's bad? I'm not sure I haven't followed much up on this game recently, but I do hope this game will do well.

    Look

I am fairly sure they will not be able to make the launch date (at least not in the polished state)

    On other hand

Funcom is very experienced company. Having made both excelent MMO and single player games. I am apsolutely not scared that Conan will be vaporeware , bad or anything like that.

    Just late....

Part of me wants to be really excited about this game and the other half is telling me to just wait on it and see how it goes until they release. They seem to be offering tons of content right off the bat which takes me back to that old expression, " you can't shove 10lbs of potatoes in a 5lb bag "  There was speculation on the system requirements for this game would be too high but in E3 they announce you can run it with Oblivion specs, which kind of eased my concerns about that. I guess we will just have to wait and see. Hoping for the best ofcourse because the game looks really good!

HIs sentiments are exactly why I think E3 has gone to crap. The entire focus from what I could see was on Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony and their console systems. While that is great and all and there are some really awesome console games coming out, it feels like PC Games had a definitive back seat at this E3. Like I said in the other thread, I believe console gaming has many years to go before it overtakes PC Gaming, but we got a very biased E3 show this year. Between completely cutting out non-media attendees and then inviting horrible ones to boot (G4TV), I don't feel PC gaming got a fair shake at this year's E3. E3 used to be one of the premiere shows to show off your "high quality" games and not just try to introduce it to people that may not have heard about it. I was hoping to see a lot more of the actual gameplay at the higher end, more of it's advanced features, and I wanted to see this for multiple games at E3. Instead we got short, quickly written articles and very short blurbs with a couple of video interviews tossed in here and there. Nothing as substantial as what we got the previous years at E3.

E3 is definitely no longer the Gamer's Expo. I guess it's time to find a new Expo for gamers.

I'm concerned about the statement that they do not show anything until it is polished... so those videos were polished?  O crap if that is polished for them this could get ugly.

I'm anxiously awaiting this title but I think it's gonna have a wonky launch, hope I"m wrong.

Finally someone else who can't stand G4tv. I will agree that E3 lost a lot of it's luster now, To me the interviews just looked like they went to the stalls that had the most people there instead of going around and finding a game that looked interesting but not many people were there.

Main MMO I am interested in at this time is WAR, but thats months away so I am taking my time on it.

AoC is another game I have an eye on but interest is not as much compared for my feeling for WAR.

After testing soem great disasters (Ryl, Dark & Light, Mourning) and soem real premature releases (Vanguard) I think I am just going to watch and see from now.

Not worth wasting my time and energy to get disappointed yet again.

Good thing my schedule will start to get busier in a few months and will give me enough time to just watch the show and see if its worth the ride when I have more time for my hobbies :D

In short, sick of the hype then the delivery is not the same.

So just going to take care of IRL stuff and just play the wait and see game.

    100% Troll.

I think this was a great article, and expect more information.  Unless they failed to provide it, I would say this is the type of customer service I want to see.  I want them to acknowledge my needs/wants.    Unless they fail to deliver on their word,  I'm pleased with this responce.

This is NOT what that article said.   They did make their point that they are NOT done.   They will NEVER be done.  MMO's get patches and updates constantly, so even after release they will still have to have a crew working.

First off Jackdog is hardly a troll. So stop throwing accusations around. He and I predicted the disaster that was to become VG way before th public opinion sided with us.

As for AoC, it is the game I look most forward to, and if one can comprehend information correctly, one shall know they are doing good. I won't write an essay about it though.

As much as I trust Funcom, this post was pure propaganda. They say they've been holding back with information on E3 purely because the audience consisted of Conan virgins. If they opted with this argument, that means they would otherwise be ready to shed more light on the uncovered topics. Since they shared everything they showed at E3 with us first, they should show us all that was uncovered, and bring the newbies up to speed later, like  they did with E3. (If this didn't make sense, it's your fault)

I'm taking names of all the skeptical people, I'll be sending them a line on October 30th.

Somehow this thread got turned into another "release date = Problem"  threads.

If this was in any way a reply to me, then I am sorry to say, I have been misunderstood. There is no problem with the launch date. I have only one problem, and that is their marketing and PR strategy. That is all.

  • AdythielAdythiel Member Posts: 726

My skepticism isn't the actual release date, it's going to be the state of the game upon release after having experienced the release of Anarchy Online in 2001 and then again 2 months ago when I tried to play it again. I hope Funcom is successful. Lord knows they need it after the 2001 launch of AO. But until I see the game in play post release, I will be very hesitant about playing it myself.

You can infer quite a lot from what they haven't show us so far...compare them to the visibility we have into WAR and you'll see quite a difference..... no, they are holding their cards close to the vest for some reason...so it naturally makes folks suspicious....

And while you accuse others of trolling, your posts border on being from a fanboi.....  there is no reason for you to defend the company/game so vigorously, we'll all find out soon enough....

It does though, show you that you indeed can controll and play a lvl 1 character =p can't say the same  about aoc =p

Aoc, still has to show most of the things that got people interested in the game. War has already ither shown some of those things or showed that those things are functional. Only thing aoc has showed so far is dynamic combat. Also they failed to show how fun it could potentially be (weather because they love to show vids of people who never seen controls before, or because of their undieing love of giving those people lvl 1 characters that have no combos to make combat look fun..) Still, they did show that somewhat dynamic combat where your attacks go into a cone in front of you and you need to face enemies to hit has been coded and is in fact functional (they also have one vid showing mounted combat and archey first person'isn perspective)

There is alsoa  video of them showign how pve towns work (npcs building their town next to yours and attackign it eventually) however, sieges and large lag free battles have not been shown, and those are the things that will make or break this game (especially large lag free battles =p)

But they are promising to release some pvp/siege vids next months and aoc will release soon enaugh, so meh, we'll see how it turns out.

PS: Their inability to show a high lvl character played by skilled player that would show off just how fun aoc's combat could be is rather annoying though.

I ask people the most basic question.  Why?  Everyone is a skeptic, and I want to know why.   If somebody says it's not going to release, I tell them to provide me with some info that would lead me to believe the same.   If you call that fanboi then so be it.  I am into 3 games right now,  one disappoints me, and thats WAR.  I was so into this game befor mythic got ahold of it.  The other is Pirates of the Burning Sea.    I want people to hear my oppinion, and argue it so that I might embrace a larger view of the game.   They can take from my oppinion what they want, and I'll do the same.
