My own experience with Vista is that it sucks for gaming so far. Framerates are lower, it doesn't properly support many Soundblaster cards, and it has a large memory footprint. It works, just not as well as XP. Which is a shame, because I like Vista in every area apart from gaming.

With a nvidia 8800 video card the framerates in Vista should be higher than in XP, however with a 7000 series video card you get higher framerates in XP.
I dual boot vista ultimate and xp pro on one computer equipped with a 8800 series card and 4 gb of ram. Every game I play on Vista performs noticeably better than in XP and also looks better. It does help that the 8800 series card was designed for vista and that the xp drivers for it are shobby. Vista plays game great. Oblivion, Neverwinter Nights 2, Vanguard (short lived test), and LoTRO run great in Vista and I prefer it to XP.
It requires more effort however getting proper hardware surround sound from Oblivion and Neverwinter Nights 2 due to Vista being different.

Well put. For once it's nice to get a post from someone that isn't putting the usual BS in every Vista thread they can find. It's only going to get better as games become multi-threaded.
