New interview at Firing squad , very much brings things into perspective
www.firingsquad.com/games/potbs_interview/
We all wanted a good game from independent developer. But most failed.
How ever FLS have grown from 10 to 70 employees, and seem to be extremely confident about the game judging from this interview.
Seems we will finaly have another good independent game on our hands

It was Gamespot MMO of E3 which is an amazing achivement for FLS competing again Age of Conan and Warhammer Online, so this game has to be good and may even beat AoC with subsciption numbers.
I truly hope that this will be a good game. Even if I don't like it after I actually play it, I wish the developers all the best. Despite that, I try to have no expectations, because I've been disappointed too many times.
Im vefry happy to here this game is looking and sounding good. i havent really played a sea battle mmo, so this will be my chance.
"I look forward to completing your training. In time you will call me master."
There are a lot of things I like about playing MMO's but a few things stand out as central to a good one. For me, those things are:
1) The size of the world. I want to be able to explore, but I don't want to feel like I'll never see the whole thing.
2) Entertaining and fair combat. PvP is a must, and combat needs to be engaging, dynamic, and strategic.
3) Configurability of characters. There needs to be a good selection of characters with good customizations, but more importantly, they need to be able to acquire items and specialize in different areas which directly impact gameplay.
The world of PotBS is going to be different - no doubt about it. I can't say I really expect it to appeal to the WoW or WAR crowd, since I don't really envision it as an exploration MMO, but judging by the interviews and the reviews I've read - it will be big enough to involve some amount of exploring curve.
The game map covers the entire, historical Caribbean Sea, the southern coast of the United States, the eastern coast of Central America, and the northern coast of South America. Some 80+ ports-of-call are all meticulously represented in game. [link]
That's pretty big, and with that kind of unique environment to cover, I think there's enough there to keep the explorers happy. As for the combat - the land combat looks interesting but not stellar... it's the sea combat that's going to make or break this game from a fighters perspective.
The ship battles focus on out maneuvering the enemy ships and releasing large amounts of cannon blasts on the enemy to deal devastating damage. Several factors like wind will effect movement and cannon blasts will arc and can miss. Cannons have up to 12 different types of ammunition for different uses. During combat at anytime ships can move close against the enemy ship and attempt to board. Once boarded the players will be able to engage in sword combat and eliminate remaining enemies. [link]
I don't know about you - but that sounds pretty intense. Once they start taking things like dynamic weather into account, this may well become the most strategic combat game since Eve, relying on a whole host of factors which will make combat fun, entertaining, and always different.
Finally, I think there are enough varieties of character "archetypes" and customization options for them to make anyone happy... and it sounds like there will be a very fancy customization process. The other side of this coin is the ability to acquire looted and player created items to make any particular character (and their ship) unique and a story into itself.
There are actually a lot more than 4,000 missions in the game. There are all kinds of missions that we don't really count in that number because they're simple deliveries or they're turn-ins where you can exchange a list of reward items for something cool, like a new ship. These are more like game services that we do with the mission system because it's so versatile. If you count all of those, the number is more than 9,000. But really, there are 4,000 missions with a story, characters, combat, loot, rewards, etc., so those are the ones we talk about. [link]
This is one of the things that made SWG good... a virtually endless variety of variables that went into armor, weapons, etc. If the ships and characters in PotBS have even a fraction of that kind of uniqueness, I think we'll be in for a treat.
...so yes, I'm looking forward to PotBS... and there are a few reasons why.
In all my time following this game (2+years) I have found that it seems the dev's have almost made a hybrid of a game (hybrid my not be the right term) But is dose seem they have taken bits for other games that they liked. Ex. The character creation from COH, The Diverse Missions from SWG and so on. I think this game will start off slow build in the player base as word gets out how the game is. i do not expect the game to be perfect I mean what game is? but I do think this one will be pretty damn good.
There's a light at the end of every tunnel, just pray it's not a train.
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7
MONEY
with soe controling billing and marketing Flying Labs does not have to and they can get more players more easily and make more money. After all they are making the game to make money so what ever makes more money is best for their game, right?
Hmm and while they are at it the combat in the game was going to be slow and take like around 30 mins for ship battles, but the game is going to have alot of children playing it. They could get more players by speeding up combat and making it less tactical and more easy to do. They would be good right more money.
