It's not at all 'too early.'  Many of us won't get past the 'SOE' name on the box.

The game sounds intriguing to me.  I love the genre and I'd love to be able to play a spy MMO.  But there's no way I'm ever paying SOE a single cent of my cash again.

SOE will continue to be a thrice-damned House of Lies while Smedley is there, and will remain that way after he's gone.  The only reason to invest time (let alone cash every month) in a SOE MMO is masochism.

    About the whole SOE thing....

yes it is the companys name on the line but in fact isnt it

just a few head honchos that actually change the game?

    seriously

with each game comes new designers, developers, etc...

all im saying is that some games theyve butchered and other games they havent

i dont like to base a game on who develops it....

i like to base my opinions about the game

    from the game

so i think i will give it a shot

all these fantasy MMO's are really starting to bore me

(although im still waiting for Darkfall)

so i think i will give it a chance

and not base it on past mistakes by the company

    just my opinion

A very wise reply. there is indeed new developers and leads for this game. I do infact hope they learned from their mistakes as they said they have and this game turns up as good as I hope it will

    I have to agree here....

The truth is the DEVS and ADMIN guys involved with the SWG thing are not on this project. In fact most of them are no longer with SOE. It will be very interesting to see how they develop this game. I see tremendous potential with this genre. I think the fact that SOE is involed is a good thing. We know they have the cash to see this thing through. So many games out there are so far away from coming to market because they lack the funding to do what is needed in a reasonable amount of time. SOE will most likley have this bad boy out by the end of Q-1 2008!

For me it can't come soon enough...I hate all the fantasy crap that has saturated the market. We need a fresh new idea. I will play it for that reason alone.

I've been waiting for a non-fantasy game. I've been paying attention to lots of different space games in development, as well as some FPS MMOs.

    This looks good too though.

I'll definitely be giving this one a try. The genre alone demands my attention :)

i'm a gamer, always will be.

heh my grandad still plays Halo 2 and he's 74, although prefers medal of honour games.. so if i'm anything like him, i'm in it for the long haul.

So the games that do come out, i will try, doesn't mean i'll like them, but i'm always willing to give the benefit of the doubt. Whether single player, multiplayer or MMO's. (unless it's games like "fusion frenzy 2" or obvious bad ones)

And this appeals to my ego wannabe james bond persona.

First its an SOE game; Strike 1

Second its for PS3 (Sony fanbois rejoice); Strike 2

Third, unless its fully instanced don't see the logic of hundreds of spy's running around as being an engaging experience; Strike 3.

Well I do not have a big beef with SOE but many people have a right too. My beef is with EA and Microsoft.

EA trashed Ultima Online 2 and Privateer Online.(very bitter about Privateer Online)

Microsoft is a money grubbing whore. They make Halo 2 to only come out on Xbox, knowing it would be the most popular game, and forced people to shell out $700 for a 800mhz system so they could play it. Now that finally Halo 2 is coming to PC they are forcing you to buy vista to play it. Well , I dont need Halo 2 or 3 , the original Halo works for me.

    This is hysterical....

All the SOE bashing in here, and some of it posted without any reason why.

Then I post something about it being a SOE game and LOOK OUT, someone gets all offended as if they have stock investments.  Very sad.

    'nuff said on that.

Here's the bottom line... Every single MMO brought out by Sony eventually gets drummed down to a withering shadow of what it could have been.  (I've played all of them, so yes, I am actually basing my opinions on experience)  Some of them not as bad (I still think EQ2 is an excellent game if you have a lot of patience, and Vanguard's potential... well, I just hope it's allowed to bear fruit) SWG... old story, everybody knows it.  PS, total lack of care for their customers... the "What we have in store for the future" dev letter wasn't even updated in over a year last time I looked.  etc, etc...  The point:

I would normally agree that you should not prematurely judge a game - however - there is something that logical people like to use to make educated guesses.  This 'thing' is called 'trend data'.

I would not buy a car from a company whose past 4 models have been lemons.

I would not hire someone who has been fired from his past 4 jobs for poor performance.

I would not order a broken product 4 times in a row hoping the next one will be 'all right'

And I will not allow Sony another chance.  They have had more than any other business would logically be allowed.

History will prove itself over and over with them; they have set a standard for their products, have remained consistent with those standards, and will not waiver from their tried and true business trend practices.

With that, no, it is not premature at all to judge the game.  NOT AT ALL.

To those of you who are willing to give it a shot, I wish you the best.  Seriously, I'm not kidding.  I honest to god hope that they prove me wrong.  It would be nice, and I might reconsider.

Btw just to let everyone know lucas arts wanted the change with swg. They owned the ip and asked for the chage. You can't put the full blame on soe.

Lots of people play eq2. When ever i've gone back ingame all people say it's changed for the better. eq1 still is going well considering it's so old. Just because you guys don't like the change gives you no right to say soe sucks, or soe destroys game. Swg was a mistake which theyve said many time won't happen again.

I don't know if you guy really play games but this crap about changing games happens with every developer and publisher. bf from ea is moaned about. Rainbow 6 and ghost recon by ubi get the same crap. Sims online was very poor.

You all a bunch of kids crying about not getting what you want. it's old a boring. If you really don't care about soe what the hell are you doing in this forum. Stop the childish bitching.

Hmm I dont remember the Xbox costing $700 and if you can play the first halo why cant you play the second? A big business with alot of workers needs to make money. You dont start a business hoping that you would just get by, you make a business in the hopes of making money. If you dont want to get Vista then go pick up a 360 if you dont have an xbox original. I myself do not like EA because of how they closed down one of my favorite online games to date. Motor City Online was a great game but didnt reach its potential due to them slowly moving all the developers to thats PoS Sims online. EA is also the reason I will not touch WAR. Do not take this as an attack because it was not intended to be one. I just wanted to know where you got the $700 bit of information.

I played the old paper and pencil game from TSR called "Top Secret".  I have always enjoyed the agent world ever since.  Having played Sc-Fi, Fantasy MMO's I always wonder when or if someone would create a "Top Secret" MMO.  I think this will be a new and refreshing departure from the standard and can be enjoyable to play out the secret life of an agent.

SOE I believe have started doing better with there games having worked hard to reverse their mistakes from SWG.  I will enjoy giving this game a try for anything just to get away from elves, dwarves and orcs.

  • JhaniJhani Member Posts: 20

I'll start playing this game when it comes, and if it's f2p that would be even better.

I agree with moondy on this one. My god people, so Star Wars was messed up, get over it! In my opinion, SWG was a junk at launch. “The Agency” looks like an awesome game, so I will be playing for sure.

Concidering how many games these days use a modified HL2 engine I wouldnt be at all surprised if this is using the TF2 one at least in part. Either way I think this game is a breath of fresh air, and I don't care what developer is running it. Sony may have made its mistakes but EQ2 has worked out brilliantly and is still one of the best MMOs on the market right now in my opinion. I'll most certainly give it a try and unless its just really broken play it rather intently. Two thumbs up here.

Even though Sony has more negatives going for them than positives (In my opinion of course) I still have faith in them with this one.  I believe this will be their turn around game to regain faith in everyone.  But if my speculations about this game are wrong, SOE is the type of company that can bounce back because of a seemingly unlimited amount of money.
