City of Heroes: Invasion!

SzarkSzark News ManagerMember Posts: 4,420

Ncsoft and Cryptic Studios have announced the launch of Issue 10: Invasion for City of Heroes / Villains.

PARAGON CITY, Rhode Island, July 24th - The city's morning calm was shattered by air raid sirens just after 10:00 a.m. The Vanguard issued an all-alerts broadcast on the Emergency Alert System declaring, "AIR RAID! PARAGON CITY! THIS IS NO DRILL!"

Early reports indicate that the attack was a well-coordinated assault on numerous key urban centers around the globe. Witnesses in Paragon City claimed that the skies darkened with heavy, grey thunderheads moments before the first wave of alien invaders tore across the sky.

The brutal and unprovoked attack caused incalculable damage in the first few minutes. The city's protective War Walls collapsed, and vital points of the city's infrastructure were devastated by tactical nuclear strikes. Paragon's heroic defenders were overwhelmed by the initial assault, and the local MedCom network was jammed to capacity.

Vanguard coordinated with local and federal authorities to broadcast the following information. "This city is under immediate threat from Rikti attack. Civilians should seek cover and avoid the streets at all costs! Civilians are advised to shelter-in-place, remaining inside your home or office and protect yourself there. If you are wounded, please seek aid at your nearest hospital or medical facility."

Did this take place as a series of actual IN-GAME events?

Yes this is a world event spanning all of CoH and CoV.  You get red admin messages like "Rikti attacking Atlas Park , all non-combatants seek cover".  Dropships appear flying slowly over the zone dropping bombs and troops.  Sky turns dark and people are running scared all over the streets.

They also revamped the Rikti Crash Site, it's called now the Rikti War Zone and is a villain-hero coop zone.  Comes complete with trainers, quartermasters, missions and a taskforce.

    I....actually enjoys raiding!

    Because I don't have to!

The regular TF/SF is not "endgame" enough for my taste, but it is neat indeed and I like it!  Maybe I will discover something more (as a RSF or STF, which are definitely more endgame then any raid I ever saw) and I just did the first one, I have no idea hehehe.  Even if nothing more, neat and nice.

To the trashcan with all other, lowers, weakers, meaningless MMOs with weak design and unability to appeal to players as they all either enforce raiding...or PvP I actually enjoy both, the PvP...and the raiding (hard to say it), in this wonderfull game.  Because...it is 100% avoidable.  I can earn everything I want, in alternative paths...so I just try them...and I find them interesting and enjoyable experience.  Do I raid a lot?  No.  But I do raid and enjoy it...which is something that NEVER happen elsewhere.  Do I want raiding in other games?  Not particuliarly and I am deadly afraid that weak and lames designers will put it all wrong, so I rather be free and have strong commitments (aka, not Brad-ish commitments or WoWish asian smile which understand nothing about endgame design).  So in short, I rather see that there are no raiding and have strong raid-free commitments...if raiding is an alternative path...maybe I will try it...maybe I will do it and enjoy it (I didn't enjoy the Hamidon at first, so I can avoid it if I don't).

On a side note, I wish they find a way to not spam us, how do you report the admin of the game for spamming you exactly?

Pointless to report them just /ignore and then there name. Save's the hassle of haveing to wright a petition and takes care of the problem instantly. /ignore severs all comunication between you and that person you wont even see there broadcast. Now if you are getting spammed with sg invites you can auto decline all sg invites in your options menu.

It was a lag-fest the first few days, yes. But after a few days, they released a patch that fixed most of it, and after that it was freakishly awesome. I remember running through St. Martial on my mastermind taking out bombs, and then a ddropship flew directly over me and bombed us all over the area. And then there was that time when me and five other people stood on a rooftop in Skyway City nd killed at least 200 Rikti...

Great update even if it had a rocky start. The warzone is awesome as well, and all the Rikti now have kickass new armor and gunblades.

    Yes. Gunblades.

“Everything’s standard pattern! This is the Imperial fething Guard! Standard pattern boots, standard pattern mess tins, standard pattern bodybags! I’m a standard pattern infantryman, you’re a standard pattern no-neck, and any second now my standard pattern fist is going to send your nose bone back into your very sub-standard pattern brain!” – Sergeant Ceglan Varl
