Combat

I cant really seem to find truly how this combat/ports work,  to my understanding from what ive read.  PvP is only at certian times during port captures, and who is there will only will be the ones able to get involved?

While I wish they had done PvP differently... this is how it works as it stands (to my limited non-beta knowledge)

Default is: A port has no PvP around it. Captains of enemy nations can do quests at your port/disrupt the Economy etc. to raise the unrest level of the port.

Once a certain amound of unrest is generated, a Pirate PvP zone opens up, where pirates can come in and fight (and you can fight pirates of course).

Afer more unrest is generated, a port can go into contention, which opens up Nation vs. Nation PvP (Spanish vs. British or British vs. French etc.). During which, people can gain "Contention points." And the end of a certain amount of time, there is a Port Battle..which I believe is 25 vs. 25 ships. The roster of that battle for each side is random (but weighted to those with the most contention points.

After the battle, the port in question will either flip sides (if the attack wins) or stay in the hands of the defending nation (if defenders win)

I could be wrong in the finer details, but you get the idea.

the main pvp game is based around port battles.  by performing certain pve actions (doing quests for enemies of the faction that owns the port, killing npcs around the port, flooding the market with foreign goods, etc.) it throws the port into a state of unrest.  the progression goes like this

    1. Piracy - very large area around the port is open for pvp for and against pirates, they can attack nationals, and nationals can attack them.

if the pirate players cause enough trouble it goes on to

    2. Contention - open war basically.  anyone can attack anyone else (except people from your own faction).

the faction that builds up the most "contention points" during this phase goes on to face off the port's ruling faction in

    3. Battle Royale - 25 vs. 25 ship battle, where the winner gets control of the port.

now, that's how the main pvp set up is.  however, there is also a pvp flag that you can turn on or off in ports to enable pvp against other flagged players.  flagging yourself for pvp is also going to have some kind of personal benefit, in order to encourage players to flag themselves.
