For the life of me i can't figure out what AoC is trying to do. Some of you may be in it for just the PvE, some the PvP and some perhaps both. They say there crafting system is not to be undermined and will be a main supplier of gear. Then they announce and implement 24 man raids and inform us that PvE gear will be different then PvP gear. PvE gear will be rewarded through raiding and holds very little weight in pvp combat, to where pvp gear will obtained through crafters (not blood money) and will hold very little weight in pve.
But this is where i get stumped. The Developers at Funcom especially Athelan seems to take offense when the forum community compares AoC to WoW. After reading several of there post they seem to want to keep the game the exact opposite of what WoW was, but yet, they implement instance's left and right. we have raiding and pve instance's. we have pvp instance's capture the flag, arena and supposedly some other type of battlegrounds. At end game, it really makes me wonder how much is left for open world involvement outside of Border Kingdoms and the pvp/pve instance's.
they implemented FFA, thank god. I can't express how lacking american made mmo's have been in this region of development as of late roughly 5 years. But the purpose of Free For All pvp is to create guilds vying for power over one another in an epic ever struggling world for dominacy via pvp. With all the instance's Funcom is implementing it makes me wonder what good the end game pvp in open world will be outside of Border Kingdoms. Normally, with a crafting system in place, you would get a guilds trying to overthrow other guilds for npc spawns that drop crafting materials and components to better equip your guild. The whole purpose of FFA pvp is to dominate your opponent through all means necassary which also means attacking there resources. Once a guild has depleted another guild of resources, they have climbed the ladder on the server as proven dominant. But just how do we deplete our enemy guilds of resources? theres plenty of ways to get resources and gear outside of Border Kingdoms and owning a keep. But so far, there is no item looting or item destruction to permanent breaking point. there is no item looting, not even inventory. So just how do deplete and defeat our enemies? not by killing em, since Funcom wants players to immediatly hop back into the fight after rezzing.
Normally in faction base pvp, the faction that displays to be the most powerful and keeps the opposing faction out of there territory wins with no real need of depleting resources. However, in Free for All pvp there is no such thing since its guild vs guild. dog eat dog. Depleting resources have been the way of things in FFA games since the creation of UO and even MUD's prior to UO. it makes me curious how FFA is to determine a dominant guild without options to deplete resources since gear is permanent. Blood Coins is not enought to determine or weaken an enemy either. Now in BK, holding a fortress supposdly allows your guild to obtain materials and resources. But you can get these resources and such outside of BK as well, fortress isn't the only way to obtain materials for pvp gear crafting and components.
For those of you who have never played FFA pvp servers. thats exactly what FFA PvP has always been about, guilds pvp'ing for to become server dominat. Its just that weaking guilds have always been how this is done through some form of item looting, taking there equipment to make the opposing guild's members out of the fight. Don't get your panse in a frenzy because gear is extremely easy to come across as well since its craftable. But with all the instance's AoC is throwing into end game for both pvp and pve, and then the implementation of FFA when there may not even be open world type pvp much at end game with all the instance's makes me wonder what if Funcom is really determined to create an end game that players want to reach and enjoy more then the leveling.

You raise an interesting point. I for one will never play a funcom game again do to that fc likes to ban players, guilds etc for being too good in faction base pvp.

OMG WOW CLONE OMG........ i kid!! i kid!!!
wow clone? every game today is a "Maze war" clone
I believe what the Dev's were upset about was the overt use of people saying "go back to WoW", not the actual comparison to WoW. You have to remember FC pioneered instancing. They used it effectively in AO, and will hopefully do that same in AoC.
I'm also concerned about this too. Will FC keep implementing their unorthodox spying and guild disbanding policy?Funcom have the worst customer support standards of any company, they won't tell you what what is an exploit or not, even when directly asked, but they will ban you for it...

Or they let you use it for a few months and don't do anything to said exploiters, as was the case with the Soldier Reflection Shield and leveling faster than was ever intended back when AO first came out.
And there was once a rampant GM, I forgot her name but she had a reputation for banning people for REPORTING exploits. Not even using them. I forgot her name but it was discussed on the forum
What will be interesting is to see is WoW will coming new features from AoC and WAR after they come out
what do u mean with "Realistic"? , no mmorpg is "realistic" ic. Sure its really realistric fighting spiders. goblings and fire is comming ...bla bla bla bla. So NO.
He is a big time hater just look at post history.
All area's of considered "end game" are covered for those who enjoy doing any one particular thing or a multitude of them. The game caters for lots of different types of end game and by not focusing on one particular element makes the game appeal to a wider audience.
I would be offended too if i made a game and people kept on caparing it to WOW too especially when AOC looks nothing like WOW. Alot of games use instancing, FFXI, Guild Wars, WOW and I am sure WAR will have some instanced areas too. Instancing just keeps people from taking your loot and interfering with your objectives. Guild Wars 2 will be a persistant world but will have instanced areas as well but that doesn't mean any of these games are WOW clones. If anything WOW is a clone of Warhammer .
AOC is different from alot of games in some areas but I think most games today have some similarities as well. AOC's graphics look nothing like anyone's MMO game. The comabt system is real time not simple button mashing. I don't really understand your point of the thread but if its really to set off some steam because you are mad at Funcom about something then I guess by all means rant away.
lol, okay, well lets look at is this way, all the civilized races you will ever be bale to play are human, and the graphics are "realistic", also there are no Trolls in AoC, so you dont belong in this forum
I fear it has gone from bad to worse.
They are now introducing a LICH character into the game!
Yes, hobbits, elves and trolls will be making an appearance, mark my words!
lich is still a human, nice try, and okay

I found the EXACT Opposite to be true. Funcom had the best support for me in AO. I never had a problem. I also never used exploits, and glitches.
Funcom loves to do next gen and boast about it. The did the same with AO, and although they were able to bring it into a decent game after a year... they reached their hand up to the shoulder in the cookie jar, and stole my faith that they wont do it again... and with what they talk about with Conan it seems that is exactly what they are doing.
Guess FC want your money first before they show any of this so-called dynamic system.Any idiot who gives FC their money before seeing this games gvg-pvp system deserves to be ripped off.
Lets hope the open beta will come soon!!!

FC's Customer Service certainly seems to be interesting. Pretty much everyone who plays and enjoys the game says they are the best around, and a lot of people who have a grudge of some kind against the game seem to make up fake crap about how its the worst.
Take the above quote for instance.
A.) It is just as bad to talk about the mechanics of an exploit as to use it. Think about it this way, if you ask everyone you meet if doing X is an exploit, suddenly hundreds of people are aware of how to use it, and chances are, many will try, even if you yourself do not.
B.) ARK characters are still players. They get done with answering petitions and log onto their play characters just like the rest of us. Talking to them is precisely the same as talking as any other player, suddenly the knowledge of an expoitable glitch is spreading, and the devs may or may not have a way to fix it. Personally, simply be being in the program they've earned a great deal of trust, but still.
If you wish to report an exploit, send a petition quite deliberately without an explaination of what the suspected exploit involves or is about. The ARKs will forward it to those who are able to deal with it.
No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

There is alot of PVP end game, thinking about siege battles in that respect, but theres also PVE, looking at the raids designed by FC around max level.
