Alright so when Graal went annoying and plain stupid, my friend and I recently decided to find another game. I, myself, do not mind RPing games based on text. However, my friend says he doesn't like those kinds. So, I decided to come on here and ask for a good RPG where you do, actually, RP. (Rp = Role Play.)

Most MMOs have some sort of actual role-playing going on. The problem is actually finding the pretty small pockets of players who do. I mean, in WoW there are RP and PVPRP servers but there might only be a few who are actually into it. You just gotta put in the effort to find these people. Usually engaging in chat in populated places will get you a few jeers, but also a few people who will point you toward the guilds and gathering places of people who you could enjoy some good-ol RP with.
EQ2's roleplay server is a bit better than WoW's, in that for the most part, the players actually enjoy roleplay (as long as its not overly-cheesy roleplay). I, personally, am looking forward to Age of Conan, where I think the roleplay will finally be fresh, new and different, not elves, dwarves, and magic. It will be a heck of alot of fun!
My experience will MMO's is they are all designed and set to have RP dring game play. The problem is finding people on a server or game who actually will RP. Most people I find only play to lvl up and get items with little thought to actually playing a role.
Joining a guild in a game and researching guilds in any game will eventually lead you to a guild that does what you are looking for.
Ultima Online has the biggest amount of things to interact with. The role playing community is big and mature. For pure role play, I'd try UO.
I second that.
Is it dellucious from UD ? Hi from Am-khaibitu.
I can honestly say, even though I have no experience of UO so I'll make an exception for that one, MMORPG's have hardly any roleplayers in them generally and I say generally because, the roleplayers that call themselves roleplayers are usually more interested in PvP or flaunting their level in your face when you try to use emotes to fight with them. I guess it all depends on what your personal experience is... But my personal experience of roleplaying in MMORPG's hasn't been all that good lately, the developers of most games will hardly support it anymore and there are more jackasses and roleplay 'elitists' these days than there are actual roleplayers, MUDS would be a better choice in my opinion since quite a few of them offer open PvP so you don't get people trying to use levels as an excuse not to fight with your character and you also have admins who actually enforce the rules of roleplay pretty well.
Until they start bringing out games which actually encourage proper roleplaying I can honestly say I will not recommend an MMORPG for it, for how fun it is, the graphics whatever sure, but not for roleplaying because it's practically non-existant in most games, there will likely be the odd groups around, but they'll either be ridiculously elitist or they avoid emote interaction.
Quoting people doesn't make you clever, in fact, it makes you all the more stupid for not bothering to read the quotes you post in the first place.
Go play Dark Age of Camelot on the Guinevere server. Once you're on look for a guild called Albion Victorious. They have over a hundred members and almost all are roleplayers.
Hey Am! I'm the very one. Haven't seen you on ICQ recently, message me: 203-911-891.
0k21, I know what you are saying. But the main reason for this is that most other games never had a worked out aim to please those that enjoy pure role playing. Ultima has since the very start attempted to try to create the perfect game for people who enjoy mature role play, and it has been successful; no other game that I am aware of has the amount of mature and active role players that UO has, nor the developed and very deep communities that UO has. There has been hired people to create interesting plots and encourage and help role players, EA has since then stopped seers and Event Masters, but the community is still mature and strong and survives very good on their own.
If you role play on Europa in UO I can assure you that the majority of people who claim to be role players are more interested in having fun and interacting with each other, creating stories and bonds than finding lame excuses to PvP. If you don't believe me, I'll be more than happy to show you. There are free trials of UO that you can try so you can quite easily find out how good the role playing community is. Either send me a PM or an ICQ: 203-911-891 and I'll show where the mature and pure role play is at.
If you are looking for an "up to date" mmorpg with RP story lines and the most role playing feeling / world immersion, I would definitely say Lotro. It is set in a breathtaking role playing world where you forget about XP and grinding and actually find yourself immersed in the world and role playing.
The Euro servers have a server dedicated to RP. The US servers don't, but on the severs I have checked out half of the population has the RP flag set and those who don't still seem to follow the RP rules (the game seems to be so RP immersing that almost everyone is paying attention to things like using decent RP names, etc...).
I see a large community of RPers gearing up for Age of Conan, very exciting.

A s a rpg gamer I have the same feeling as ritsuka81, I really want the company to implement their game as quickly qs possible
I also tried to find a roleplaying-MMORPG recently. Without success! As most people here said already you can find some very small amounts of role-players in any MMO, but not a game with a nice role-playing atmosphere.
The best choice for role-players, who want to play online, is Neverwinter Nights 2 on a RP-server. It´s not an MMO and not so many people are playing together. But those who meet there actually role-play and it´s big fun.
Maybe th best in between a text-based game and an MMO for the moment..
I wish there were such games.
Because im not really a fight and grind type of gamer.
That's why I liked RS so much because you could do other stuff than monster killing and grinding for leveling.
I hope that they are making more of that kind of games.
That would be awesome.
