I'll take that bet.  Easy money, hands down, no contest.  WAR is the WOW Killer.

Yes, i will take that bet too.

It may not be on par with WoW, but i do think its going to be the 1st game (if everything i have read about it) comes true, it will be the 1st game to give WoW a run. If everything does come up trumps it will beat Warcraft. But only after release will that become knowledge. I am see'ing this as the PvP that warcraft should have had. The toons look very simular too.

I'd say it's thriving but as with all things, it's also evolved from the sort of insider cottage industry that it was 20 odd years ago.

GenCon seems bigger and better each year and rather than taking a hit from technology, PnP and tabletop gamers have embraced and incorporated  technology into their hobby, using computers to manage data, anotate maps, for tedious calculations, etc.  But at GenCon you can still see guys with rulers physically measuring angles of cannon fire on their  massive and meticulously arranged 1/x scale Napoleonic miniatures dioramas.  Amazing.

In spirit I agree with you 100% and I have the utmost confidence that WAR will give WoW a run for its money quality-wise. Mythic is the stable that brought us DAoC, which out of all the first-gen MMORPGs has stood the test of time better than its elder siblings (no offense to UO or EQ intended at all). The fact that it's still ranked as one of the most popular games among the crotchety sampling of gamers who frequent this site does say something, though. That coupled with the Warhammer IP is just something I can't argue against. HOWEVER, I think there are two things that may ensure it never reaches the insane popularity of WoW: 1) Its PC only, whereas WoW is PC and Mac friendly, and 2) it's a PvP-centric game which may turn off many PvE players. Fortunately, at the end of the day as long as WAR has a healthy, thriving community and the game is FUN, do any of us really care if it "beats" or "kills" WoW? Let the WoW players have their brand of fun. And we'll have ours. WAAH!!!

Alright then. But please, don't forget that Mythic's previous game capped at only 250k subscribers. And lets not forget that even Lotro, an IP MUCh bigger then Warhammer, could not lay a scratch on WoW's playerbase.

Ill take that bet now becauase Gameloading is often wrong about the important stuff lately [such as Wii sales and MGS4 going to the Xbox360].

Revolution? I doubt so. Evolution? Yes, definately.

AoC is more of a revolutionary Game IMO, new Combat/Spell System, some sort of Base Building, DX10 Support and so on, while WAR takes the best Parts of existing MMOs, puts them together, spices everything up, add some new Features, and leave the bad parts of past MMOs out.

Nevertheless, I think WAR will be the more fun game

same here, iam going to try AoC just from seeing the new combat system, but i dont think it looks fun, like WAR.

    Fun > Revolution  - IMO

    QFT.

Some complain that gaming isn't accepted into the mainstream, obviously because of the haters who piss on anything that becomes overly popular and drops out of thier little niche.

It's the same with music. "Let's sit in our room and listen to death metal and hate everything else because then at least it will be our little cool members only club".

To be honest I think It's the timing that will make WAR the WoW killer. The likes of LOTRO was realeased when WoW fever was still very high. Let's not forget that WAR was planned to be out at the start of this year. Obviously that was never going to happen, but with this delay and all the WoW vets realising that after BC WoW is empty in endgame, I'd put my money on WAR.

Unless Blizzard do something monumental with WoW, or Diablo 3 magically appears within the next 6 months, which aint gonna happen.
