Similar to WW2online but without having to spend over 30mins marching from point A to point B. A map of Europe, North Africa and the Middle East with a map for each POI. You group together and attack much like WW2online and there is an AI defense incase the enemy isn't online.
The maps would be like BF: 2142 maps, perhaps a little larger or smaller depending on subs, soldier preogression being the same as BF: 2142 the higher your rank the more unlocks you get. Even if you don't agree with me you have to admit it's better than a Harry Potter MMO, right?

So what you're looking for is a Planetside like game thats a little more modern day and believable?

Not completely, because the BF series, unlocks give you bluntly better equipment, Planetside just gives you more options of equipment.

I'm a card carrying member of the SOE Haters Club, so Planetside is off limits to me. It's just that I enjoy BF: 2142 more than any MMO I've ever played (and that's a few). Also I believe that MMOs are pretty stagnant right now and need something fresh, one of my main problems is the lack of action.
I used to play EVE religously but it had the same problem that most MMOs do, you have to wait ages to get any action (PvP). I'm at the point when I want to play a game for fun and fun alone, I'm not prepared to accept the boring/repetative bits and wait for the fun anymore. I think a merger between FPS and MMO would be great, yes similar to Planetside but I reckon the Battlefield name would bring in alot of subs.
For a game like this to work you'll need 200k+ subs and there are only a few FPS/Companies with the ability to achieve this. Battlefield being so well known it would hit the ground running so to speak and take the extreme tedium out of the MMO genre. Also it might put some of the skill back into PvP for the MMO genre, rather than the function key mashing fest the passes for PvP in 99% of MMOs on the market.

Yeah, I really would like to see MMOFPS games come out too. I love FPS games and MMOs, so putting them together for me is a logical step to a great experience. I loved Planetside, but after BFRs came out I quit because I thought it got a bit stupid because they were so strong. I've heard they have made them much weaker since, but I'm not going to bother playing again.
I'm going to give Huxley a try when it comes out. It looks like it should be loads of fun.

Tribes 2 MMO for me please. Never like Tribes 1 and Tribes 3 was Unreal torny with jumpjets. Had some epic times in T2 setting up your base defenses and watching them moe through attackers, or hunting down the flag carrier, or taking the flag and having a friend drive by with a hover bike he jumps out you jump in and its "wohoooo". Getting a heavy suit and camp the entrance to your generators.. ahh memories. T2 a vastly underestimated game.
But the Battlefield games are awful IMHO, spawning only to get sniped 2 seconds later is a joke.
I'd love to see a GTA mmo, although any FPS themed MMO would be worth a shot Imo.
I’m going to let you in on a secret
First there was Tribes, Tribes became planetside, BF2142 took most of its game play, and ideas from Planetside, but of course made it fit there allready existing engine.
ADD version:
Tribes + MMO = Planetside
Battlefield Engine + Planetside game play and concepts - MMO = BF:2142.

funny I've been hoping EA would do the same thing with the BF2142 brand. just take what they have and put us in a bigger world. I used to play BF2142 so much but stopped when my clan lost interest.
need to check out planetside someday. but isn't planetside Realm vs Realm? nice thing about BF2142- like all FPS, its more akin to FFA. you can switch sides at anytime. you can fight your friends for fun or join up with them for a serious fight against another team.
but I tried planetside wasn't the same, I want some 1, even SOE to just buy the tribes 2 engine, maybe spice it up a bit and MMO-fi it with 1 big as map, keep the weapons the same, spin-fuser is the best weapon ever.. im just babbling now.. memories of T2 running through my head.
3 Factions, and yes, you can play all sides. 10 continents (witch can fit about 4 BF maps in them each) Persistent worlds, more than 40 weapons, more than 25 vehicles (multi passenger) 300 players max players per continent (AKA:MAP).

Battlefield is what it is because it is a FPS and not an MMO. The franchise would go down the damn tube fast if it was converted to one. Most of the community is counter strike players and other FPS titles. Don't change a franchise into something it's not. I'd rather play Harry Potter Online then see one of my favorite FPS's go down the tube.
Just wait for Huxley.
Huxley is quake unreal style, Different thing.

Huxley will have both PvP, and PvE. Where as Battlefield franchise and Planetside, only have PvP content.
So imagine Huxley being an actual MMORPG, just in First Person... with guns'n'shit.

PvE is evil, it is a method of consuming your time so you'll pay another sub as it takes another month to get to level XX. Who can say killing different named NPC beasties over and over to finish similar quests is fun anymore? I used to do it but it got old and so did I.

Haha, I love that!
Yes, we need a "real" MMOFPSRPG or whatever you want to call it. TR is going to be a total waste of time, Planetside is so dated its not even funny, Huxley isn't going to be it either.
We need a War MMO. F8ck this fantasy grindy crap. WTF is actually interested in leveling up more elves and dwarves to go on raids in yet another generic fantasy game? (Oooo that should bring me some love lol)
BF2142 was pretty good but I like BF2 with a few different mods. Check these out.....

I don't get what you think battlefield copied from planetside? Especially since you are saying planetside is all copied from tribes. The only thing 2142 does different than the previous battlefield games is the mechs, which certainly weren't created exclusively for planetside. Tribes is a spin-off of a StarSiege, which was a mech game itself... and the sequel to EarthSiege, which was a clone of mechwarrior.
Battlefield is nothing like planetside. It's just a great sci-fi FPS, with a little bit of character progression tracking. It's a step in the right direction. I would love to see an MMOFPS with the character progression, customization, itemization and all around depth of an MMO, on top of the fast paced, skill-based vehicle heavy FPS combat. Eventually someone will get it right... apparently it won't be tabula rasa. At this point I think we are as likely to see this game from an FPS developer than an MMO developer. I know I am tired of sacrificing gameplay for persistence, and white-knuckle action for depth. I want it all in one game.... mechs would just be icing on the cake for me.

I am referring to game play style, there is a huge difference between quake and unreal and Battlefield.

Plantside is not a copy of tribes, it was the next extension. Its made by the same people, and has allot of the same game play and factors, just split between the 3 factions.
Most of the game play is from Planetside (Referring to BF2142), from the "Unlocking", Certs, to the mechs, to the units and abilities to "win" conditions, deployable turrets, mine, cloaking units, aircraft ,etc..
Play planetside if you haven’t, and you will see where BF:2142 got allot of its ideas. I linked a free 30 day trial for you.
I'm not saying Mechs are unique to planetside, that was never my point.
The part in read just described planetside, but with out itimization.
Planetside is not about loot, and any FPS should never be about better items and equipment, sorry, thats the relm of RPG's, this is also why huxley will create unfair fights. In planetside, a day one noob has every ability to kill a 4 year vet, as it should be, progression only opens OPTIONS, not more power.
They have there differences, but the influence of Planetside in BF2142 is unmistakable.

I like to see a war MMO based on any time period from world war 2 to futuristic and the object is conquest, pure and simple, and not some gear grinding snore fest. Just fun, interactive, and intense warfare spread over the Earth. And what wins the day is based purely on skill....player skill, team skill, strategy and tactics and not some uber weapon with +500 stamina to machine gun. WWII online and planetside is a good start and I hope some game developers will try to improve the genre of MMOFPS for those of us who want PvP with a MMOFPS twist to it and minus the drudgery of gear and level grinding.
I am with ya bud.... I have a dream too
PlanetSide is craptastic. If you don't mind playing an FPS game for low-speed, anti-twitch gamers- go ahead. It has nothing to do with good old fashioned FPS gameplay- and that's the only kind of MMOFPS there should be. We've already seen that FPS gamers won't touch it (PlanetSide) and that the MMORPG crowd dosn't care for it either- so why continue to make a game that appeals to no one primary demographic?
MMOFPS for FPS gamers. Viva la revolucion!
As a little hobby I've been slowly creating a wiki full of ideas about an MMOFPS that I hope to one day actually create...And while it may be another 10-20 years before it's ever even formally started, I think it's exactly what most of the people in this thread are looking for...I just wish that some other developer would take a real stab at an MMOFPS before then, because I really need to play a good one (And I refuse to call Huxley a true MMOFPS)...
as for someone wanting a tribes mmo... go get the engine they used..
