Wow is a great game. Its excellent at what it is, a game. Its a level grind with colorful quests. Its extremely polished and easy to play. I must say I enjoyed my time getting to 60. Its pretty much a perfect example of a really well designed game. It scores a 10 out of 10 polish department imo. I experienced the raiding part of the game as well. I had the best epic gear you could get. I was also lucky enough to acquire a legendary weapon (only a few legendary items in the game)... but in the end the game is hollow. As you level the world shrinks. Here is where UO begins to show its strength.
UO is actually a world. Wow is just another game with levels. UO is completely open ended, its a world simulation. UO has a ton of issues, its graphics are crappy, the interface is a mess (both of which are being upgraded in KR) , but... somehow I come back to it prior to the KR release. Ive come to the conclusion that Im drawn back to UO because of the depth, its skill based systems and its illusion of a world in which Im just a small person exploring. UO lets the players have houses, shops etc. I like that I can wander and come across a shop ive never seen or hop on a boat and go fishing. I like that I can go Spawning in an open PVP area when there is battles to control spawns and finish them for the powerscrolls worth millions. I like that I can go fight peerless with my guild, and get rare items i did not even know exist. I like that I can go to a real auction ran by the players in the game almost any night of the week. UO has so much potential and I think it just might be getting the attention it deserves from EA.
You can stick with WoW but after awhile it loses its luster. For me I was playing the recent expansion and hit level 65. It dawned on me what’s the point. I’ve been at level 60 for a year doing nothing but raiding. Im to hit 70 only to do that again for a year?! Why? Just so I can get the next set of epic gear and look like everyone else in a raiding guild? It’s totally pointless once you hit the level cap. Plus once you are at the level cap in WoW 90% of the world is pretty much pointless. PvP in WoW is ok its kinda like playing a FPS. In the end its just a scoreboard and is pointless. The new PvP objectives in the expansion are nice but its still kind of “meh”
With so many skills to mix and match in UO the majority of the world feels relevant. UO has changed a lot over the years some good and some bad. Maybe my love for the game comes from being a 9 year vet and UO being my first experience of a mmorpg. I can tell you I’ve tried a bunch of mmorpgs since UO. Of all of them WoW held me the longest, but in the end I always come back to Britannia.

Its just to bad UO has such HORRIBLE graphix
WoW... Pun intended!
This is truly one of the better posts that doesn't just shoot a game down, but shows its good sides as well. You provide a logical explanation for your decision and your support base is sound.
I play UO every once in a while or refresh my accounts only because I know that I will support that game until I die. It is truly the end all be all of open ended "end game" if you can even call it that. The game truly never ends and you can really do anything you want. I personally enjoy the graphics and UI. Very non-cluttered to me hehe.
The KR graphics are looking better with every weekly update they release. You can tell that it's really going to look nice when they're completed. I play in the 2D client atm. But, I know I will make the switch to KR once they have worked a lot of stuff out.
Im going to have to disagree. I'm actually looking for a game with the 2d graphics like uo. If uo didn't change its whole image with AOS i'd still be playing. I dont like the new 3d crap that everyone is coming out with now. Doesn't do anything for me for some reason. Call me old fasion
I must say that I am a bit surprised to find that you would consider UO better without mentioning the RP side of it. If you haven't tried it, it will perhaps draw you even further into liking it (compared to other games). Still, nicely written and good on you!
I agree with what you say, still EA neglects UO way too much and it is summer and many players are away, so I decided to discontinue my account again.
Just reopened my WOW account though and dabble a bit in the pvp part for fun and quest else a little with a friend, though I know that I will not stay in wow as it is too much grind.
Too many things in UO are broken at the moment and would need a total overhaul that UO could really grow again.
I say this though that UO is the best sandbox and the best game for roleplay and is why I stay with UO with trial accounts.
But I will not pay them, for their crappy programming, calling KR out of Beta knowing that they will take about 6 months until it is finished and letting people pay while fixing it!
If this game where maybe like turn the graphic into 3d graphic, like other game in the market. and they be succesful.
I really want to try UO out with the new graphics I think it will breath a bit of fresh air into it..
The only problem is i really dont want to commit to another game as i am looking forward to AOC, War and pirates..
I have been told that UO is not as fun as it used to be..
maybe i should give the trial a go and see what i think
actually you know what I will .. i really need a sandbox game to get into guess it will be hard as a noob but hey woh cares
I can definitely agree with that statement. Ultima Online is Ultima no more.
Well I recently reactivated some UO accounts I had because honestly nothing out there was as interesting and deep in ways you can play the game as any other.
Lots of bad things happened with Origin EA and many other parties. But the original design of the game really still shines through. You have literally millions of combinations of characters you can create all unique and useful for different ways of playing in the same game enviroment.
SO much nowadays I hear is this a good fps game or that one is a good mmo game a pvp game blah blah etc...
Well i say UO is an enjoyable game becuase of so much more than simple graphics, and that was how it was designed.
Each game out there was guided and developed by different groups of people and their evolution just like all others was guided by forces that equal the sum of everyones commitment and involvement in the production of this tyoe of entertainment.
Suffice it to say all games are created in an way that they please the people who have developed it. And those who enjoy the same type of entertainment.
