Intel 82845G

loteknateloteknate Member Posts: 2

I have a Dell 2400 desktop. I upgraded a few things ( I have 1 gig RAM, 250 gig 7200 RPM hard drive) and it has a P4 2.4 GHz CPU. Bu it came with the integrated Intel (UN)Extreme Graphics 82845G chipset.  The 82845G sucks bigtime.  It has 64 meg RAM which it takes from the system RAM.

Anyone know if  Guild Wars will work with the 82845G? And even if i will run, will it run without crashing all the time or have other weird errors...?

Thank you.

I'm running that Intel chipset on an HP notebook (typing this on it, as a matter of fact).

Yes, the Intel 845 graphics chipset does suck for gaming. It's slow and underpowered for being PCXe. I have an Nvidia GeForce 7600 (AGP) with 512 MB of Ram on my desktop system, and the Nvidia runs circles around this Intel chip, as you might expect it to. That card is designed for gaming. If you want to play games, go Nvidia.

It will work. Just down the graphics and it should run fairly smoothly.

I used Intel graphics for a whole year with GW and I still enjoyed the game. Lol, then I went Nividia

all onboard graphic cards are rubbish, best to buy a cheap one, im sure your pc probably has a AGP or PCI-E port, if your not sure, do a search for a piece of software called:  aida32...

This software will tell you everything about your pc's hardware and software, even benchmarks your memory write, read speeds and compares to saved comparisons.

Anyhow, if your in europe, try www.overclockers.co.uk or www.scan.co.uk they have great cheap deals on graphic cards. Best to go for cards around £100 or roughly $200, im sure theres an equivualant websites to the two above for the USA and elsewhere.

Personal opinion also, if you decide to buy a graphics card, nvidia are better value for money, as ATI have heating issues with there cards, I had a ATI 9800xt, and even though it was supposed to speed the fan up to keep the heat down it was 20-30 degrees hotter than my NVIDIA 6800 GS i have now lol. The cooler things are in your pc, the longer they probably will last

Anyway ive gone off on a tangent so hope that information has helped a little

ops i forgot to add one thing, if you do get a graphics card, make sure you disable the intergrated graphics card after you have slotted the new one in (otherwise might conflict and cause the new card to not work correctly).

Intergrated graphics are a waste of time, good for work places that do not involve graphics design or animation.  they can handle some of the very oldest games out there like erm the ones that come out with windows
