I got into UO during T2A, and for the first year I was a complete newb..
This is terrible, but for several weeks I didn't gain any skills before I realized that I reached my skillcap and needed to turn some skills down. lol
But I had fun, I got ganked, made friends, and sometimes killed those friends when they were hurt and had a backpack full of loot.
I was saving up for a house, and at that time Money > Friends. lol
I was never good at pvp, but I loved the game and the sense of danger it's wilderness provided.. And I enjoyed backstabbing people who were dumb enough to trust me.
Anyways, I remember the day that the patch notes said Trammel was open..
I didn't really read it, I figured I would get to it later, because there was still much to learn and explore in the world.
So I entered the game and for a couple months I noticed that the population was way smaller, and I couldn't figure out why...
But I was amazed that the trees lost their leaves.. I remember thinking it was just winter aproaching, and I thought it was awesome that they were gonna change the seasons....
Anyways, by the time I stumbed across Trammel the entire continent was full of houses.
Lol I was such a noob. But I had fun.

I dont remember the specific day... But I know you could walk around before you placed a house and I know the day housing went live it was a strange site. Anywhere you went large groups of random people standing were around in the wilderness. lol there was so much arguing and trash talking. "This is my spot, go away!"
Indeed that started day one of Trammel, the rule set encourages it.
I remember when I installed Renaissance...a month later I left UO...for good.
Every now and then, I tell friends about how great UO has been before Renaissance and I really like remembering the good times I had.
That kinda speaks for the game, but i havn't played it since and certainly never will.
EA sucks!
Don't forget the bank sitters. There was a massive explosion of them after Trammel with people just sitting at the bank taking up bandwidth and lagging everyone out. "This is my spot, go away!" went along with the "MINE!!! MINE!!!!" that went on in the dungeons. People got really angsty and brave when they knew noone could attack them.
Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
Ahh, those were the days... training at the cove graveyard, getting killed by reds..
i remember for about 2 weeks when we first started me and a mate were trying to kill timber wolves with with bows and absolutely no skill, when i thought 90 str was insanely cool, and 80 magery was a dream good times.
i remember going to the bone knight room, where everyone would train there warriors, and watching people die and looting there silver vanq weapons before they could get back to there corpse.. good times

Everyone complains about trammel like it was the worst thing to happen since Hitler for crying out loud. I mean tramm wasn't that bad I played before and after and people act like as soon as Tramm came out it wasn't worth playing. I didnt find that to be the case in the least bit and I'm sure most don't think of the benefits that came from Tramm. Ya it was a bank sitting supposed Newb fest but really it was nice knowing That if I did get an item to sell that I could actually sell it and not have it raped from my hands. Also I remember plenty of flamming post on forums about I cant skill up cause I can't leave town BS. I mean really I more aspcts then I care to go into here Tramm made the game casual to the point that if you wanted non stop watch you back action you "lived" in fel. But if you wanted to go out on a pansy newb dexer you had no choice but to be powned to gm pretty much. Tramm introduced exactly what it needed to make it a RPG and not just an "I'm Uber Leet HacKzorrz so i will pown you anytime you leave town fest"
I remember my first mage taking close to 6 month to gm(casual player at the time)and was so freaking happy I could have pissed my pants. But I will say there is no way I would have made a tamer before Tramm. And I'm glad I finally did cause he my favorite PVE toon now. (Tamer Provo Bard)(you ask how? No Eval) and he still rocks. I have used that toon for the harrower a few times but rarely. In fel it was always my scribe mage or poisoner. After AOS I went necro mage as well and enjoy them all to this day.
I guess what Im trying to say is I would really like to know exactly what it was that ruined the game with the intorduction of tramm other then the fact that you couldent find untrained people to gank to make you feel LEET. And don't come at me with population I played till 2004-2005 or so and never had a problem finding good or bad people on either facet. Unless you kept moving to new servers as they came out. Ultimately I think UO is a great game and even though I just returned from a long break I know things are probably a lot different but if the game didn't change at all fans would be screaming louder then they did about tram. I personaly don't think it has changed all that much and found a familiar feeling upon re-entering the game world it again felt like I was in an RPG more then I can say for most games out today.
In Closing I am back and like it. the changes are minimal in the sense of gameplay and as for the rest I can still live with it all.
NO other game has ever come close to the massive battles and guild politics that I have experienced in the genre of mmo's. I hope to find this again as I return to the Lands of Britania.
Vets should all come back and then the message will be out to current devs of what the player wants. " A GOOD mmo RPG"
