No new expansion for years?

moostownmoostown Member CommonPosts: 377

We all know what Blizzard are like and took them from late 2004 to early 2007 to release a expansion. This is good on one hand because they always polish it soooo much and ends up being perfect, however not great because the game will stay the same and get boring.

Just asking if Blizzard has mentioned anyhting about expansions for WOW?

I don't know that i'd call the burning crusade polished. It still has a bunch of bugs even after all this time. They reused many building and NPC models so no new creativity there. Mostly just more of the same. They made a very odd transition from old world to new world by making it require so much more exp, quests give tons more exp and you get more from kills, gear is 10x better even right at level 60. It's not a smooth or logical transition or progression from old world to new world. All it managed to do was make all old world instances, quests and locations from 58-60 absolutely worthless. All that time they spent working on those endgame instances/raids in patches and it's all for nothing. A huge waste of those resources. They could have made the transition more logical and still kept that 58-60 content valid.

I know people say blizzard takes a long time because they release bug free products but in my opinion all of their games are very shallow and not innovative at all but still have bugs. Other companies can release expansions with as much content or more in a fraction of the time.

I just think they take forever because they are either inept or lazy or can't agree on anything.

But they will be announcing the new expansion, wrath of the lich king, tomorrow at blizzcon.

Well, there isn't much about it that I have heard, but I did find this link randomly today, World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King

Other than that, I have no clue. Only a title it seems.

I was given a link to a german site that had english quotes..  They had a whole section of Q&A with one of the Blizzard members.

So far this is what I know from my memory.

The continent of Northrend added to the world of Azeroth. Northrend is about the size of Outland.

Content for players level 68 and up.

Level cap increased from 70 to 80.

Brand new abilities and talents introduced.

New "Hero" class added - the Death Knight; this class will need to be unlocked through certain criteria before it becomes available.

New Profession: Inscriptions - allowing you to permanently enhance spells and abilities.

Siege Weapons and Destructable Buildings added to the PvP landscape, as well as a new Battleground.

A plethora of new Dungeons, including 25-player Raid Dungeons and Heroic variants.

An abundance of new quests, monsters, items, and recipes.

Do keep an eye out though on Friday.  I'm sure we'll hear more.

  • They will probly  continue releasing expansion once a year in order to keep the drive of the game going since the content patches they release arn't all that impressive. Well atleast the last one with the dungeon being completed within 2 weeks (Complete joke of a raid instance).

If they want to continue with popularity with the little kids they will release newer and newer content each year making it seem like they are getting more powerful when it is just a trap into mediocrity of mmo gaming. Blizzard copied there strategy from EQ everyone knows it and thats cool. Good to get successful ideas from incredibly successful games. Yet now that blizz thinks its top shit and has nothing to steal from they are sitting around twiddling their thumbs doing nothing but trying to remake what originally made them popular which they havn't forgotten (Story line of Warcraft). They have fantastic lore writers, yet incredibly unoriginal design teams.

Maybe the destructive landscape and hero classes will bring back flare, but I doubt it.

Owell, another sit and wait for the players till next expansion now.

It's not suppossed to be "Work", it's suppossed to be "Fun".  All the time you had going through dungeons and getting gear ect.  It's not "Wasted" for you, if anything, the NEW players its wasted for since they don't get to experience it like you did for 2 years plus.   If you feel its' work -- then you've got the wrong idea of a game-- thier is no final destination-- it's about the JOURNEY and the GAME.  It's not suppossed to be a job unless your a gold farmer.

You have to come out with expansions,,,, and it's going to give better gear than the old stuff.  That just makes sense.  You can't expect new or casual players to spend YEARS raiding over and over and over to get thier gear to where you were before they can access the new -- higher level content.  That's just crazy.

Take heart they when an expansion comes out... after a few weeks of hardcore playing,  you will be further along than everyone else for the entire time until the next expansion.

I don't know what Hero class is but if it's another word for "alpha" then i wouldn't want it in the game. Every class should be the same and to everyone at the start of the game otherwise it just causes a inbalance and that. I'd rather see 2 new classes and 2 new races.

I'd also like to see guild housing and guild levels (like EQ2) where your guild can become more powerful and gain kool items and rep in the world. I'd also like to see a new profession for furniture inside the guild housing which would be nice and image designer to give you a new make over in the game,

What also would be great is kool new additions to the game like Turning shimmering flats race track into a  instanced BG type thing but where you race instead and able to attack eachother while racing lol.

I always got the feeling they were planning on doing more with the racing in the shimmering flats.  I think they just had other things on the plate and couldn't figure out how to do it "right".  Yet, at least.
