PvE Aspects

Will there be any kind of raiding in this game? This is purely out of curiosity so need for trolling/flaming, just looking for a yes or no if anything is known about it. ^^;

Not raiding in the same sense as WoW. While there will be large PvE targets that may take several groups, you won't be farming for consumables, building a pre-set group, or putting a ton of strategy into downing the mob.

If you never played DAoC, planning for a dragon raid would often mean finding 1 tank, 2 healers and then inviting anyone else who felt like coming along to zerg a dragon. Not to mention that the best gear will still drop from PvP, so any PvE raids will more than likely be for bragging rights, trophies, or just to dick around with some friends.

Never played DAoC (wish i did)  but im guessing the gear a raid mob will drop is going to be decent and give someone a reason to wear.  Especially since the best gear in the game they said will be from enemy capital cities which im guessing is farely rare.

Possibly, it would be a good assumption, But I think that enemy "capital raids" will take anywhere from several days to several months.

why are we even discussing pve? With their xp/pvp system why would you even want to hit a mob.

Uhm maybe because some people don't always want to be stuck pvping? I love pvp, but sometimes when I'm pvp'd out for the day i just want to relax and beat up on a few NPCs for a while.

    Thefonz has a point.

As much as I prefer to pvp all the time, it wears you out after a while and you just want to go off to some corner of the map and dick around with friends.  After all it's supposed to be a massive multi-player game with some sort of social aspect.  And quite frankly I like to do my socializing in a somewhat quieter atmosphere.  Be it in real life or in a virtual environment.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

I'am coming from L2 and you have to actively pvp to hunt anywhere, that being said if I had gained xp for every pvp I got into I would be lvl 76/75/75/75 by now rather then just 76ish.  Why hunt crap AI mobs when real players are often times more abundant, easier to kill, can screenshot w/o looking like a fool "Hey here we are beating up some mobs!!!" + the fact you will need to do this in order to advance in the game. I.E. taking tier lvl zones to gain access to enemy capitol city. I will personnaly train every carebear group I see that actively xping in pve zones.

Thats exactly what DAoC PvE was all about. With the exception of ToA, which even Mythic eventually began to regret, PvE was ridiculously easy to accomplish. PvE was more about getting a metric assload of people (usually intoxicated) and just mindlessly zerging an epic mob.

I'm hoping WAR has a decent amount of PvE but:

    • that the rewards are nothing special, or can be gained easier from PvP
    • the fights are totally void of any strategy
    • there is no limit to how many people you can bring to the fight
    • PvE isn't required to accomplish any end-game goals

Thats the system DAoC used and it was great.

The developers have said over and over that they want subscribers to play BOTH RvR & PvE.  That is how you get the most out of the game.  If all you want is RvR that's fine.  But keep your opinions to yourself.  There are plenty of people that plan on playing WAR for both RvR & PvE aspects.

Also I would like to point out that you are not helping your realm by training your own faction members.  In fact.  They were helping more then you were, considering even PvE questing gives Victory Points.  You would be hurting your realm while you wander around the PvE areas looking for players of your OWN faction to try and get killed.

I for one hope you do not play on my server.  Or if you do, you are on the opposite faction.

What are you going to play?  Order or Destruction?  I just want to make sure I'm on the other side.

No telling how much Mythic will borrow from DAOC PVE like the dragon raids,  but in that game the drops included special weapon dyes, skill respec stones (partial and full), a few special weapons that looked cool, but really weren't  any better than what could be obtained elsewhere.

I thought this was a forum for all WAR players not just the ones who subscribe to your train of thought. There is nothing wrong with saying this is how I am going to play the game and there is nothing you can do to deter me from doing it. E-slap me? O-nono's!  I lead the most aggresive players from any mmo and all of them are breakneck bastards. I cant really lead them if I come across as a flatfooted RP,carebear hugging, pve'r..... they would all leave. If you dont like the way we play then roll Order on whatever server we go to and see what you can do. I am trying to build up enough animosity before this game begins to not just have people that want to RvR but people that soley want to RvR us. If I can get 5:1 odds in the opposing faction that actively want to make it impossible to break us then we got a challenge. Anything less is unacceptable. Dont take these as flames man I really do hope you bring your best and the best your mates can haul up. Good solid aggression makes these games for fulfilling when you know you just didnt win a fight but your proving yourself right at the same time. I am gonig to destroy whatever server we land on. I will greif it and hack it into the ground, I will encourage anyone to do the same. Dont just tell me what I can and cant do, try and prove me wrong and then we know where we'll stand.

I've never played DAoC before but that does sound like a interesting way to do PvE. And hopefully that Mythic learns from the ToA expansion that people dread so much about.

Or how about I just keep doing what I been doing cause I know for a fact that it works like a charm.  Once we have established ourselves we'll recruit your high end DD classes and support classes.  If there is open high market resale of mats or crafters we'll get them too. We'll fraps every second of every fight were in and relish in showing everyone else how bad they are in comparison.  If you think you can do whatever it takes to stop this kind of relentless gameplay then do it. Those precious pve areas you want so much will be for our guilds players to powerlvl the  people we're  going to recruit from guilds like yours and then their ass is thrown in the mix. Their wont even be a mob for you to pull let alone try and effectively xp. Like I said, prove me wrong. Call me a douche all you want but I'am just paying the cost to be the boss.

No raiding but they will have large-scale PvE encounters that anyone can join at any time throughout their progress.  These are called public quests.  Each player gets experience—and I assume loot—based on how much they contributed.  Mythic said there will be 300 of these public quests at launch.

Since his actions would get him:

    - A bad reputation and peoples would avoid him, leaving him outside of options.

    - Return of favor, I am sure I can make his whole guild wipe...when they know it is retalition for earlier actions, not sure they will like him as much.

    - Expose him to sanction from Staff, such as banning from the game.

But the real thing is that its going to be easiest and most rewarding to your realm if you do pve and pvp. Because remember everyone, RvR consists of pve as well....

But I dislike how you make assumptions ano, and you seem to post nonsensical topics without backing them up:

a: prove to me he has no "skill" and that you do.

b: the other person doesnt seem to be afraid, he just seems to be dissapointed in such flame bait.

This just made me laugh. Nearly every single one of your posts in this forum have been complaints about PvP. You have zero credibility when it comes to anything said about PvP/RvR in WAR.

Since his actions would get him:
    - A bad reputation and peoples would avoid him, leaving him outside of options.
I'm not sure what you're saying here. Are you saying that because of his bad reputation, people will avoid him in game? Reality check - people won't have a choice! Think about it. Public quests, he can't be discriminated against - and if he does his part, he will reap the rewards of the quest. In PvP/RvR, well, if you ignore him, your character is just gonna end up dead.
    - Return of favor, I am sure I can make his whole guild wipe...when they know it is retalition for earlier actions, not sure they will like him as much.
Estranged is the leader of a guild that has been together for 3+ years. We have a huge force, and we didn't have to recruit from outside of our former game. Trust me when I say this - Estranged is by far not the most aggressive person in our guild. No one is going to leave because of anything he says or does. It simply isn't going to happen, so erase a "guild wipe" from your thoughts right now.
    - Expose him to sanction from Staff, such as banning from the game.
We play all aspects of the game, and we do so within the rules of the game. Being aggressive toward someone from the opposing faction is not a bannable offense. It's part of the game. I assure you, we're not going to be the only aggressive guild. There are dozens upon dozens of great guilds that are coming to WAR from other games. We're looking forward to the challenge. I promise you, we won't hold anything back. This game is about conflict, and that's exactly what we're aiming for.

No offense intended here Kelsonmac.  But maybe you should re-read your guild leader's own posts.  He said nothing about playing all aspects of the game.  In fact he mentioned that he would train monsters on anyone that he saw actively PvEing.  He is talking about his own faction members here, not members of the opposing faction.  I believe this is a banable offense in most online games.

In his second post he says that his guild will "destroy" what ever server they are on & that he will do it by griefing & "hacking it into the ground" which I can only assume he means cheating.  That hardly sounds like he plans on playing within the rules of the game.

Let me know what server you are on. I would like nothing better then to see you "destroy" a server. It is a rare thing when I can cost a player real money. Reporting you will be a laugh.

Cheating != badass. In fact it usually means the person can't handle the challenge.

No offense taken. Yes, I have read his posts. I will only say this once - and the only reason I will say it is because you seem like a cool guy. We will say anything to get people riled up. That being said, I think that you'll find that guilds such as ours - filled with hardcore players - will hardly have to resort to cheating in any way, shape or form to advance in this game.

In his second post he says that his guild will "destroy" what ever server they are on & that he will do it by griefing & "hacking it into the ground" which I can only assume he means cheating.  That hardly sounds like he plans on playing within the rules of the game.

In WoW, we call this being a tosspot. And, you don't get many friends by being a tosspot.
