2 very legit websites for your shopping pleasures! Other than NewEgg.com those are the other two websites that I have used before. Hope you find what you need on them.
Dunno about CPU4u but every machine I've ever seen from Tiger Direct (3) have been complete and utter crap. They came with the system specs that the people ordered but the merchandise was all poor quality and VERY poorly put together.
newegg.com for the win. Every machine I've built with their stuff has lasted me years. And they have everything from top quality to generic depending on your price range.
As for your specific item, I dunno. Maybe you'll have to use some obscure site. That's a pretty unusual request you have there.

First, Tigerdirect.com is good for PARTS, as asked for.
Also, Geeks.com is a good place to look. I've built 5 different rigs using mainly parts from their site, and not one problem.
newegg.com
i think to OP was only asking for parts sites besides newegg..not complete systems....besides...dont buy a complete system...build it yourself...( its like playing with lego's...nowadays, most works and snaps together as such)...or a barebones system....but to tell you the truth..many sites like dell(xps 410 w/ e6600 and 8800gtx) and cyberpowersystem have comps that are just fine and competitively priced in comparison to building your own.(note: cyberpowersystem has high delivery charges...dell is free)<----THAT right there can make the difference in pricing that can cost you that 8800gtx or high end ram. food for thought. ( $80-$120 for normal delivery)
honest.
anyway....I dont think the OP was asking for a full built and finished pc where 30% of the profits are bloat and gloat
just parts(seemingly..he may be building his own)

thx for the sites but they dont have the part i need either. i might just have to go with ebay. but i could get ripped off there too.
Try searching www.pricewatch.com
All vendors are rated and are very competitive. I've ordered over a hundred items using pricewatch and have never had a bad experience with any of the vendors. I also like using Tiger direct for individual parts.
www.zipzoomfly.com
Its pretty much like newegg. I use newegg more but zipzoomfly has also been good to me.
If all else fails, craigslist.
Maybe this site might have the cd drive but there seems to be a few models of R31:

They have a good Better Business Bureau. Hope they have what your looking for and cheap too! Prob looking at $60 atleast for a specific laptop cd drive.
NCIX is one of the best sites out there, and while it has a lot of Thinkpad R31 parts, unfortunately the CDrom you are looking for isn't one of them.
You probably will just want to Google search manually, it doesn't seem like the most common of products.

bingo, all my tech savvy friends use it so it must be good.

PCUSA , priced my last computer there , cheaper than newegg plus they put everything together and call you if there's any issue.
