I logged into EQ2 for the first time last night. First impressions? I loved the introduction video; the graphics looks amazingly lifelike. And Sir Lucan, my nemesis in EQ1, looked tougher than ever. My entry into this world placed me on a Qeynos Isle. Graphics looked good. And I loved the targeting arrow. I was turned off a little by the npcs wandering by because they had an entire dossier written in text above their head. Um, ok, if you want to give me that info, I’d rather target the npc to get it. Moving right along, I noticed an ocean not far away, and since that is always a draw, I walked towards it. The water was fantastic, and the beach and crabs were appealing to look at. I gasped when I noticed the school of fish. What great detail. A weathered but seaworthy ship was docked nearby, and I walked up to study it. Quite a vessel. Since I know EQ, I skipped all the tasks/quests that are meant to introduce you to the game. But prior to leaving the isle, I thought I’d look around first. So I walk past an archway and see guards fighting splitpaw gnolls. The graphics of the gnoll impressed me. But the guard moved at warp speed to attack it. Ok that was a turn off to see the guard move so ridiculously fast. I wandered a bit further out and saw the deer and birds. Fabulous graphics, I thought. But I yearned for combat. I attacked one of the incoming gnolls and combat was joined. Zooming out to see the fight in 3rd perspective, I was impressed by the animations. But viola, in a moment the gnoll was dead. And there was NOT ONE scratch on me (cleric). That was all I needed to experience. This game obviously holds zero challenge. I want something that engages my mind; that makes my heart beat a little faster; that makes me worry; that makes me cheer. This did none of that. It was, in fact, quite boring. Like watching a boring fight scene in a movie; you just wish it’d be over with. Where are the days of EQ1? Where a newbie like myself had a 50 50 chance of success when fighting a level 1 bat or skeleton? Some of us like to earn our place in the world rather than being spoon-fed. I was pondering what this easy game reminds me of. Aha, the instant gratification, low-risk pleasure of console games! That’s it. The console market is huge now compared to 1999. Everyone has a console. And I assume MMO makers want a piece of that action. But if they want a piece of that action they should make friggin console games and not MMOs.
So OP; would you rather get slaughtered as soon as you leave the gates by a group of ^^^ Heroic mobs? Or would you rather be slowly introduced to the game mechanics and the feel of combat?
I agree with a poster above me, try EVE. No hand holding there!
You should really try the game again. Been playing for 2 months and enjoying it. Trust me; you WILL die!

Having played EQ2 for a bit at this point, I can sort of understand your complaint about lack of challenge if you're the sort who likes a hardcore PvE experience. However...

That's one hell of a generalization about console games. You obviously don't have much experience with consoles.
LOL thats pretty funny.. because he killed the first type of mod he comes accross really fast he thinks the hole game will be like that.. Just try it for a whiel you wil lsoon realise its not like that at all.. Also play through the beginers island as u can get soem nice quest loot..
Dude, why are you telling the moronic op too play past the nooblet island, he sounds like a dick and i dont want him anywhere in the game LOL!!!!
EQ II is one of the more forgiving MMOs out right now. That said, what the hell is the OP smoking? Did you really want the first mob you met in the tutorial island to give you a pitched battle? If you could barely beat the first mob you found in the newbie area, by the time you got to the mainland little bunny rabbits would explode your head with the power of their minds and corpse hump you. I'm sorry, but getting corpse humped by bunnies is not my idea of a good time.
I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

This has to be a joke, or one of the most ridiculous reviews I have ever seen.
Killed one mob in the noobie starting area, and from that you know all about the game?
The consensus seems to be the first ten levels and nice starting gear are freebies. Great. You like to be spoon-fed, I don't. Next game, please... oh wait, there isn't one!
Luckily, i don't need you to like me to enjoy video games. -nariusseldon. In F2P I think it's more a case of the game's trying to play the player's. -laserit

I don't know. As long as there is content done you actually are being spoonfed.
So why are you playing the games instead of writing(lore) them?
There is no such thing as a hard MMO just cost more or less time to invest in them. What is hard finding a hidden quest giver that pops up randomly when Duff Mckagan catches a cold? It's just timeconsuming trying to find the questgiver.
What's hard with being killed by same level mobs, you either pick higher or lower levelmobs. There's no skill involved other then learning the game and you played one you played them all pretty much in that matter.

My first character a Barbarian Warrior made shortly after the Release of Kunark, didn't die till he was lvl 21 and thats only because I wondered to far into Karana and got mauled by Bandits.
I mean 50/50 with an even con, are you kidding me?
50/50 with an Orange con more like it.
What were you trying to do solo a even con as a wizard with just barehand HtH?
As for Everquest 2, you even understand the con system, newflashs its Everquest 2, not Everquest.
You have colour, grey to red, grey you will easily kill and thus get no reward, red will kill you. White is even, ie the same level.
Then you have arrows, 3 down to 3 up. Players start at roughly 0 arrows, but the high level you get and the better equipment spells you get to about 2 up at lvl 70 with high end group gear/raid gear.
Your pathetic troll, you kill 1 crappy mob in the shadow of the Guards and claim its too easy.
Try doing the main quest line, the last 2 are pretty tough.
Also trying leaving the encapment and going into the Wilds.
Heck did you even play because its Goblin on the Qeynos Isle, not Splitpaw Gnolls, which are friendly in Everquest 2 and you have to be lvl 20+ and own the adventure pack to meet them.
The OP is a troll - ran the same message on EQ2 forum till they got locked. Seems to be more an ad for online poll and wanting another progressive server in EQ1.
He couldn't possibly tell what the game is like from playing on the newbie island. Like I said the guy is troll.
Give the guy a break. If a game (or a movie) doesnt entice me from the very beginning I lose interest pretty fast and apparently so does the original poster.
And for the record I did play past the noob island and got to level 20 or something but the game isnt very interesting. It feels like its all laid on a track with little way to use your brain and customise yourself differently from other people. Its all grind grind grind with little actual mental work needed.

You played the game for what....a total of 60 mins, didnt do a quest and there ya go! You know the game sucks.
You should go into writing game reviews for a living. You are sooooooo good at it.

playing eq2 and two worlds
Sadly, many electrons were cut down and had to die for this thread to exist.

Easy MMO, spoonfed... Pretty silly tbh.
I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.
"You have the right not to be killed"
I give OP 10/10
He made my day.
What the hell Everquest were you playing.
