um..fraction is the most recent one right? not sure..but if it is then get it I suppose...lets jsut say look at the website and compare both and get the one that appeals to your eyes the most.
Faction is the second one, while a good one it also the most criticize.. it's more linear than the prophecies and nightfall. Nightfall (last one) is a very good expanssionwith lot of new content including the heroes system.. i'd advice to start with it as it is really fun to manage you're own team through the campaign.
You need nightfall to play prophecies and faction with you're team of heroes.
Prophecies, imo is the best. It's the easiest to learn and it could just be my attachment to it being the first one, but I really do like it.
Factions I didn't really like too much. The back and forth quests, closed spaces and locked gates really annoyed me. Although I did hear that it gets better afterward. This chapter is more geared towards pvp so if you like that then this should probably be your pick.
Nightfall of course has the heroes. I think the storyline was decent and it was more akin to Prophecies.
Yes factions is more pvp oriented as the champain only has 12 missions versues NF which has 17 and Prof which has 25, plus the quests in factions are too easy and give out about three times more exp than the other too. As well, once u have progressed far enough into factions you get to choose between two "factions" and thats where the pvp fun really starts. Prof has all the core classes (warrior, ranger, monk, elementalist, mezmer, and nercomancer), factions has all the core classes plus assassins and ritualists, and NF has all the core plus the dervish and paragon. NF has heros which are your personal npcs who u can customize their skills with any u have earned on your account. Difficulty wise I find NF to be the hardest, then factions, and finally prof, so prof might be a good chocie if your begining. NF and factions offer rewards ( free max weapons and armor crafters with cool armor) while prof doesn't. Also each game has skills that are in all three and some that are specific to each game, so those with all three can have an advantage over those who don't. If you like long , awesome game and you want too make your character good at PvE (Player agianst Evrything )choise Prophecies . If you like not long , intresting game and you want too make your character good agianst PvP ( Player versus Player ) choise Faction . If you want short , intresting game and you want too make your character good at Farming ( Farming means earning cash ) choise NightFall . I recommend Prophecies ^^ .
I would have to say that I think Prophecies (first one) was the best. The story was pretyt long, and I like how you have to do quests to get certain skills, instead of just buying them all. Thought they all there ups and downs. The story in Nightfall is pretty awesome, and the pvp in Factions is real nice. Hard to choose a certain one, but don't get them all unless your sure that you like that style of game. Some people cannot stand the completely instanced areas.
lol Im just gonna point out its not fractions its factions haha no flame intended. and I would go with factions. So yay.... Anyway thats the one to buy in my opinion!!
lol Im just gonna point out its not fractions its factions haha no flame intended. and I would go with factions. Mostly because of heroes. Very fun. Even though some people thinks it kills the party system it also helps if you cant find people. So yay.... Anyway thats the one to buy in my opinion!!
i recomend factions cuz it has the best PvP out there. and a great storyline.....but 1 thing i really like about nightfall is hero system... they r slightly diff from henches. henches can be found in factioins too.

I am going to post my thread from another question asked here cause it looks like you guys need it.
And btw....
Eye of the North is NOT a stand alone product it needs one of the main games to be used. which is why it was packaged with prophecies as a platinum edition. Tho GW:EN is very fun, you can't just plug and play GW:EN.
You know they say that these games are stand alone products, but the reality is these games require each other to be truly effective.
I have played GW since beta and like most of that time period we all have prophecies which is the "core".
I will try to explain this the best I can as I do with all my friends who ask me which game they should get.
The answer to that question is very simple. Everyone who wants to play GW should buy Prophecies first as it is the core to the entire network of guild wars. It is the structure that all classes except 4 are based off of. These 4 being the 2 from factions and the 2 from nightfall. It is the core for all skills in the main class sets, and the basis for which you will build your characters off of. Factions and Nightfall introduced new skills/ and or items into the game but all are based on the core.
Think of it like this, GW is a human body. Prophecies would be the body "the heart of the game" and Factions is the arms, Nightfall is the Legs and Eye of the North is the Head.
Without prophecies you just have some arms, legs or a head not attached to anything. Tho these can all function on thier own, they alone are just pieces of a whole that you cannot fully appreciate unless all joined as one.
If you bought GW for the PvE MMO type game to play and solo and have fun, you need to get the games in order and play them as intended.
1. Prophecies
2. Factions
3. Nightfall
4. Eye of the North
If you bought GW for the PvP aspect then you can actually just get any of these except Eye of the North and purchase the PvP KIT package from the GW store and the CORE Skill set from the GW store and be nice and effective in combat without the need for anything else. keep in mind tho, your classes are limited to what you purchased.
If you chose nightfall, you wont be playing assassins or ritualist in pvp and vice versa for factions. if you get just prophecies you wont be playing any of the 4 new classes in pvp combat.
Hence this entire post, you want to be able to do anything at anytime. you need them ALL......
