If you just want to PVP, then you should purchase GW the PVP edition. It unlocks all the PVP content that you'd normally have to spend upwards of a year or so to unlock in PVE.
A year? your kidding!
A real pvP'er will unlock most of it in a month, 2 at the top
lonesamurai is kind of right
it all depends on how much u play, and if u know what the heck ur doing.
Look for the cheapest deal, you can get prophecies very cheap now as its 2 yrs old, but you might find a better deal pack with all 3 games, but if not get the cheapest one, play it, see what you think, then get the other 2 if you think its the game for you.
Ive played SWG, WOW, COV, Spacecowboys, and i think GW is great game personally, not just because theres no subcription, but because its got a variety of dungeons, pvp methods, loot, quests. The missions rock for PVE lovers, its a story, and best to play all 3 stories from the beggining (make a char on each of the games to watch the stories from beggining to end). with all 3 games you can make 8 chars, pretty fast too, even buy extra slots cheaper than a months subscription to mmo's
You can have a primary proffesion, and a secondary proffesion, theres probably around 1000 skills now, they keep adding around 100-200 skills with each game, and now the expansion: eye of north.
You can customise your weapons and armour, changing the colours or increasing stat bonuses.
You get hero's from nightfall game, you can control 3 npc chars at one time. Handy if there aren't any people to help you with quests. Theres also henchies, but you cant control those npcs, but they help too.
You can pick up prophecies from next to nothing, ive even seen some of the collectors editions for factions going cheap. So my advice, buy one, if you like it get the other two to really have the best GW experience, or if you wanna risk it, buy a multipack with all 3, but i personally wouldnt, as you might not like this game, its down to personal opinion.
... When you reach level 20 the things people do mostly are the following: - PVP, for faction to unlock items, weps, elite skills (skills unlocked can be used by only PVP chars and hero npcs you control). - High end looted dungeons - Titles - Basically you complete the objectives to gain a title under your name, like complete all the missions and bonuses to get defender of tyria for example. - Elite skills, Unlocking Elite skills from bosses found on the game worlds either in the missions or on the actual worlds. ...
So, what are the high-end looted dungeons? Are they kind of similar to WoW raids?
I heard that there were a lot of elite missions with like 8-12 people that were big long missions similar to raids. If that's true, then I'm definately getting Factions and Nightfall.
The one thing holding me back from getting Factions and Nightfall is that I want something to do other than PvP. Sure, it's fun, but I want something like raids. I remember seeing on the original GW box the picture of an undead guy on a horse with a lot of people next to him. All I could think of in that picture was "Raid Boss".
So is there anything like Elite 8-12 Man missions?

Yes there are a couple high-end "dungeons" / boss raids / long quests namely:
Sorrows Furnace Final Assault - ShiverPeaks ( Prophecies) Up to 8 Man Run
Underworld - Tyria (Prophecies) Up to 8 Man Run
Fissure of Woe - Tyria (Prophecies) Up to 8 Man Run
Urgoz Warren - Kurzich Side (In Factions) Up to 12 Man Run 2-4Hrs
The Deep - Luxxon Side (In Factions) Up to 12 Man Run 2-4Hrs
Domain of Anguish - Vortex (Nightfall) Up to 8 Man Run

Sweet, it's sounding better every day. So how long are the other ones, just about an hour or so?
It really depends on the group and what they are looking to accomplish...to complete them all the way through, you are looking at 1-2 hours. Clearing UW or FoW can be quite a task. Many people just go down there to farm nowadays.

It's a very fun game, but you can't look at it like an MMO, because it's not. I think it's best compared to a modern much better version of Diablo 2 BattleNet. However GuildWars doesn't have the heavy content that other MMOs such as WoW or EQ2 have, but that's not a bad thing, especially if you are looking for a break.
Its good to have all of them for (ex. factions has the best necro minion ) and Dervish is alot of fun in nightfall...too bad they have nerfed it ... and the storylines they are just awesome id say buy them all if you have money but not all at 1 time id suggest you to play them 1-2-3 beacouse there is a bit of prophecies in factions and a bit of both in nightfall ... if you havent played previous storys you dont get the exact point of the new story

The way i look at it when deciding whether to buy a game or not, is how much money would you spend on a night out with your friends £50? min,
for that you can buy all three games for endless nights entertainment.
And make more friends.
