More Notes someone posted on Bloodfin forum:

DAY 1:

Day 1 recap:

Didn't get to ask too many questions so far today, the panels were so-so....

-Art Panel: Showed off new artwork for Tusken King which looks absolutely amazing and also the new model for a NS queen (obviously new elite mobs)... also showed off some concept art for the gardens when they put that in. Lastly they showed the new ITV they will be including in the newest bundle package... a naboo royal space ship (the one padme used) and it looked cool but guess what? We'll all have to pay another 30 bucks to get it! The crowd really gave hell to Deadmeat and the marketing lady when they said that.

-Traders/Ent Panel: Not much here other than they will be giving ents more dances eventually... it all depends on what they got in the bank of unused dances that were created in the beginning. As for traders Blixtev really wanted to emphasize he wants traders to have repeat business but not through decay. He said with each chapter they will be adding more things that will make traders have repeat customers. He also mentioned cleaning up the trader professions (ie. removing weaponsmith from engineering) And lastly they will be doing droid commander but it won't be a copy of beast master. They will revamp engineering traders to make the new droids, and other classes will use expertise to be droid commanders if they wish.

-Space Panel: I left early from this one since it seemed nobody really had any good ideas.... I fear for chapter 8 but i'm sure they will pull out some good stuff.

-Other notables: - The Agency and The Pirates of the Burning Sea exclusive sneak peaks were amazing. I am really pumped for both of these titles.

- During Smed's big press conference when he said "Who here plays SWG?" someone shouted: "Dead Man Walking!" But all in all smed praised us the community and really kissed up to the fact that they dropped the ball but that the new dev team is doing some of the greatest work in the industry.

That about sums it up for today...... tomorrow is the fun stuff like the combat panel and the big SWG gathering with all the devs and smed.

Another Day 1 Thread from forums; redundant but maybe some tidbits:

Today's sessions:

Live Event

This involved 10 physical challenges and 10 puzzles that 4 teams of 8-10 competed to complete for prizes. Some of the challenges had pre-requisite items you had to earn, and the goal was to collect 5 ship schematics. Puzzles included decrypting a simple substitution cipher, matching planets/POIs, word finds, mad libs, etc. Physical challenges included using lightsaber toys (the collapsable kind) to keep a balloon in the air for 30 seconds, trivia, nerf gun shooting, etc. No team completed all 5, so they're tallying all the points earned for puzzles and challenges and will announce a winner tomorrow. Groundskeeper was our team leader, and we did pretty well, but might not pull out the win...

Bringing Star Wars to Life (don't know much about this)

Unfortunately, I didn't make it to this one since the line for the survey booth (where you get your preview tickets to see some of the new titles like The Agency and where you enter the raffle) took 1.5 hours to get through due to lagging servers (ROFL).

What's your Story? (Storyteller, event planning)

This panel was hosted by Tunso and Pex, and was a decent sized group. The intent was for us to learn more about the system itself and their plans, and largely to hear our ideas and comments about what could make it better in the future. Some of the topics player brought up that were kicked around and accepted at least as valid ideas included:

" Protected" areas (possibly only within player city limits) where storyteller admins can "ban" players for a set time (like an hour) to get rid of troublemakers and griefers.

Setting patrol points for storyteller NPCs

Creating "no-drop" areas around controversial areas such as player bases

Better/easier/ faster ways to report people abusing the Storyteller objects

Customizable rewards (banners, trophies, statues, etc.)

Enterable POBs on the ground (the existing Storyteller decor items but with an interior like the YT-2400 in HK)

Objective-based Storyteller items (like the old Capture the Flag)

Similar to race droids, but a commander who gives a set of waypoints to follow and an inventory to reward those that complete the circuit, with the ability to place other Storyteller objects/NPCs at the waypoints for encounters

Placeable , defendable structures vs. waves of NPCs for a set time

Return of jukeboxes (this may only be outdoors items, they're not sure yet)

Speak-through NPCs (aka ventriloquism for on-the-fly speech)

"Triggered" storyteller NPCs so that they activate when you get in range

Ability to "snapshot" storyteller setup into a tradable object so you can create and sell packaged events

ENT Session (Entertainers and Traders)

This was a very full session, with Blixtev and Loche hosting. It was a pretty free-form session for people to voice concerns and ideas to improve the non-combat professions.

Beast master resource requirements were brought up, but Blixtev said they're happy with where that is and with the difficulty level of achieving a 60 point pet.

A resource refinement process (similar to space RE'ing to combine multiple resources for better end result, with the cost of losing other stats or high quantity ratios.

Favor of the Elders buff with addition of +Luck was requested.

GCW banners for traders and entertainers was requested, but the response was that the better solution is to give crafters and ents a way to "earn" one using their profession (similar to the construction of the Restuss factional bases).

Decay was brought up, but the panel and community agree that what's desired isn't actually decay, but rather a form of repeat business. Blixtev stated their goal was to give crafters new consumables and schematics in every chapter publish and find other ways to drive recurring revenue.

Droid Commander is coming (Ed. note: Chapter 9, I thnk), and will include a revamp of some crafting professions so that Engineers are really back to Droid Engineers, not 50% weaponsmith overlaps.

Droid Commander will be similar to Beast Master in that it will require expertise to use them, and the droids should be customizable in much the same way as ships are built out today.

Blixtev also acknowledged the general uselessness of Weapon crafting, and said his goal was a return to the combat/crafter synergy of crafting good weapons with the addition of loot enhancers (the return of Krayt tissue??).

He also hinted that one of the rewards in the collection system was going to be item storage in crafted clothing (belts was the specific topic when it came up) but he was very vague...

The vendor creation process was brought up, and it turns out Blixtev had recently tried creating a vendor only to find out they're all fat and ugly by default and has intentions of giving us some level of control over their appearance in the creation process, but probably not full image design-type sliders.

Another hint that was dropped about the future was that Weapon attachments might not always be only made by engineers (Ed. note: most likely part of the Droid Commander/Droid Engineer changes).

Crate size increases for at least structures was discussed and acknowledged as an issue likely to be addressed.

Chapter 7 will see LOTS (their emphasis, not mine) of new schematics for crafters based on the existing in-game art that's in NPC cities and houses but isn't currently craftable! Some of this will likely be rewards for the collection system.

Storage increase modules will be obtainable through collections, as posted earlier on the forums by Blixtev. 100 items per module, stackable to a theoretical limit of 5000 total items.

Stacking of glowy items was requested.

Better vendor options for incubated eggs was also requested and they said they'd have DevH look at it.

We've Got Plenty of Space

The space panel was hostd by DeadMeat, ShadowBrak and Loche, and was mostly an idea-gathering venture for Chapter 8 content.

Capital ships are not going to be part of this system, as it would be expansion-level effort, not chapter stuff.

New ships (especially those already in the art files but not yet "hooked up" ) including new POBs.

Atmospheric flight simply isn't possible in the game due to the 2-D collision system.

A "Theme Park" in space was discussed, with missions from space stations, transports, etc.

Craftable weapon firing effects was requested.

Improveme nts to make the Firespray worth the effort were also requested.

Quest- obtainable droid commands was another idea suggested.

A missions system based on the iconic "Ben and Luke hiring Han and Chewie" concept was proposed.

More high-level multi-ship content like Lord Cyssic (sp) will likely be included.

Great post! Thanks for keeping us updated Lateris. I hope you are enjoying your time at the Fest!

I like what you said about SMED saying 'Who here plays SWG' = Dead Man Walking .. LOL

Well it looks like SWG is going to be here for a long time still and that a good thing. All the best to the new Dev team. I hope they keep on doing what they are doing!

Abosolutely not. A new Star Wars mmo would be good, that didint have her hands touched by SOE.

  • LaterisLateris Member UncommonPosts: 1,847

It wil be 10 years from now if we even see another Star Wars MMO. Which may never happen.  Anyways the fanfest proved one thing--Jules Torres is out of the picture for good  when it comes to SWG. He was the wrong enchilada for this game. And the NGE IS OUT OF HERE.

About freakin time. This should have been implemented a long time ago.

"If we don't attack them, they will attack us first. So we'd better retaliate before they have a chance to strike"

    Sweet :)

Keep up the good work with the updates and news :)

    Interesting.

Seeing this gives more foundation to those who are screaming the game is dead.  Why are the only prospective additions actually things which were removed?

It appears that development on Star Wars Galaxies has all but ceased and the current staff are merly struggling to re-include most of what was removed for the mythical player base who would flock to the "new game enhancements".

    Kinda sad.

And Art.  This is more likely due to Lucas Arts not providing acceptable artists since EVERYTHING is required to be approved by LA before SOE can include it into the game thus there's a non-existent art staff.  There was even an issue about a year ago where an artist who did work on SWG for SOE had listed all their works in an online resume that mentioned NUMEROUS addtions to the game, including a yet to be talked about expansion which was axed due to the nge, and was forced to remove the references; he was looking for a new job since his term with SOE was over.

I've come to understand that the worst thing which ever happened to Star Wars was Lucas Arts.  Ironic, aint it.

The new content is coming - the village is going to be a township and the heroic quest are going to be instances for groups much like the EQ raid groups were or what wow has copied.  Droid commander and Gardner are coming as well.  The "word of mouth" is that  the expansion will not come out until later in 2008. But that is a rumor.  Chapter 8 is adding new content to space.

  • randomtrandomt Member UncommonPosts: 1,220

No point adding space stations.. thats just more ground combat in an instanced dungeon.. give real space content eh?

  • LaterisLateris Member UncommonPosts: 1,847

Yep they said no space stations becaus ethe code required is on an expansion level. I wanted them

SWG is about making your own Star Wars and living in the Star Wars world, not necassarily being confined to what you see in the movies.  Not everyone wants to play the hero, believe it or not but there are those that enjoy playing the role of the ordinary person.  Is it such a bad thing for people to develop their own Star Wars and Iconic experience?

Probably :)  The mistake many of you make is that you assume that this changed at some point.  It never really did...they just introduced an option to follow a path to become a hero ;)

I, again, think Obraik is out of touch with Star Wars Galaxies and the direction of the game over the last few years.  Here's an OFFICIAL statement on SWG being directed towards providing EXACTLY what obraik says is not wanted.  How intresting...

Ms. MacIntyre: "We really just needed to make the game a lot more accessible to a much broader player base ... There was lots of reading, much too much, in the game. There was a lot of wandering around learning about different abilities. We really needed to give people the experience of being Han Solo or Luke Skywalker rather than being Uncle Owen, the moisture farmer. We wanted more instant gratification: kill, get treasure, repeat. We needed to give people more of an option to be part of what they have seen in the movies rather than something they had created themselves."

Obraik I am 100% with you on that. But try telling that to Nancy! Only Starwarsy and Iconic are acceptable.

    Cheers Mindspat.

Nancy hasn't been invloved with SWG or even LucasArts for over a year now ;)  However note she talks about the movie hero part being optional...just like I did ;)

Calling me out of touch is a little...interesting heh.  There was never a time that I couldn't stop doing combat and take part in my usual non-combat content alternatives...such as crafting or house deco.  These non-combat alternatives have actually increased over the years.

Think I read on these boards that she actually went to work for some education software folk. Oh dear, we're doomed I tell ya!

Anyway, glad current players are happy with what has been suggested or is going to be implemented, but you gotta try and hold the devs to it, so many times in the past they were nice at fan fests and blatantly just BS'ed folk. Try to get them to create the game the majority of NGE fans want and not just the whiners which seemed to happen pre-NGE.

For me personally its just the duck Im waiting for, or classic, which may or may not happen, who actually knows.
