What MMORPG should I play?

So, I've played World of Warcraft. Never got bored with it, but I didn't like how you had to dedicate your entire life to it to be good at it (I only got to lvl 30, with two characters, both hunters. :))

So now I want to play sum MMORPG again, but don't know what. I want one that don't need to consume my life, it's good if there's lots of stuff to do in it... Doesn't really matter though if it's a grindfest, as long as it's at least a little fast-paced.

I'm a tad interrested in City of X, but this thing that you don't use gear sounds a bit weird... like there's nothing to do once you've reached maximum lvl... :)

thanks in advance!

Oh, I've tried Guild wars too... Didn't like it at all. Phantasy Star Online was a bit fun though... untill I played online and all of these eliteist fags started mocking me for not playin the way that was "über1337lol"

If you don't want to dedicate your life, play Guild Wars, EVE Online or City of Heroes/Villains.

LotRO, best MMO, non PvP, on the market.

  • Well Drift City is really fun IMHO...depends on what you like, but to me....it's quite fun. I'm playing the malaysian english version, and yeah...you can't register right now. I registered like a month ago over there. Though if your just starting than you'll have to wait because the registration is down.

You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith

    @OP

If you really want a game that doesn't require copious amounts of time I would recommend:

Guild Wars -- Not my kind of game, but very popular and it certainly doesn't have a big grind.

City of Heroes/Villains -- Same comments that I have about Guild Wars.

EVE Online -- While many claim that it is absolutely necessary to dedicate your life to this game to be competitive, I would argue just the opposite.  Sure the learning curve is steep, but all-in-all I think you can play this game as little or as much as you want once you understand it and be satisfied.  I have a friend who logs on about once a week for one or two hours and is perfectly happy with his experience.  He has been playing for over a year now.  If you want to be super-competitive of course you need to spend more time, but I would argue that this is essentially true of 99% of the MMORPGs on the market today.

Lord of the Rings Online -- Not terribly hardcore, no PvP to worry about, doesn't break the mold too much.  Additionally, just the way the game is set up it's not the case that you need to raid constantly to be competitive.

Those are probably the most 'time friendly" mainstream MMOs (other than WoW) out today.  I hope that helps a little.

I think that it's funny how people recomend GW even though I said that I don't like it. XD

Anyway, tried som CoH today. It was fun, but the world in it was kind of... boring. At least compared to the world in WoW. But maybe I've just played to little?

And what people say about LotRO: I don't mind PvP at all, I think it's fun. XD

Can someone tell me if there are any major differences between CoH and CoV? Thanks in advnace. XD

Honestly... the differences between City of Heroes and City of Villains are quite artificial.  For the most part the power pools of the different ATs are just swapped around and the landscaping might be a little different on CoV.  Other than that -- not different.

I think it's interesting that a complaint you listed about CoH was that you didn't like the world all that much.  Personally I found it to be one of the game's more appealing features.  Sure the zones are a little empty and simple, but it's a change of pace from the traditional fantasy MMO.

Take a look at eve, if you will interact with other people. The game stands by its self, from big cooperations to the small mom and pop out fits trying to get a leg up. If you want it eve has it, and yes as of now you are stuck in a pod, but from what i hear that might change.

And yes I have tried most of the new games that have come out and have accounts with most of the older games. And i always wind up back on eve. Even the newest player will have a purpose in eve.
