odd and possibly difficult build

okay I have a strange and potentially cool idea for a way of playing that I was thinking of trying but I might need some help figureing out what to do.

here is what I was thinking, sneaking around finding big battles or following behind(but not to close) to pirates.

waiting for a battle to start and end, then swoop in and scavenge the losers for parts.

sortof a junkyard packrat.

then i cna either sell the wreckage or use it.

the main things I was thinking of is finding a good balance between armor cargo and speed, using mostly jammers and other countermeasures to either slow attackers down or prevent them from finding  me in the first place, Or even better something to stop them from shooting at me.

so obviously this ship would run light on weapons.

it might be very difficult to pull off but potentially rewarding, fun, and challenging.

any advice or ideas?

use an interdictor and a cloak.

the dicter has good cargo space and 8 highslots for salvage/tractor beams/cloak.

the cloak will allow you to flee to a safespot and cloak. afk untill local is clear, then go about the salvaging.

It can work... you have to be very careful though, especially if you aren't blue to the winners :)

Interesting idea. But would be very challenging and probably impossible to make a living out of. Most of the time the victors immediatly scoop up loot from downed vessels and then if possible bring salvagers to mop up the rest. With good timing and quick a quick F1 pressing finger you should be able to find some success.

okay I'm guessing I'd need sensor jammers of some form.  But I have another question.

Is there a device that allows you to jam a persons weaponry?

and dang I forget the race but I am probably to start(while jsut rating for practice) The race that does drones and electronic warfare skills at the start.

edit: I almost forgot, my friend is currently playing and really into crafting, manufacturing and inventing and such, would the stuff I salvage be useful to him?

Odds are you wouldn't be able to get close enough to the big battles in the first place.  If you knew where small skirmishes were happening you might be able to swoop in undetected, but in blob warfare, you would likely have to go through certain bottleneck points to even get there and either side would likely kill you if you were an unknown.  You would need to be on good standings with one corp or the other to let you do that.  Something along the lines of, you salvage as many of the enemy's ships as possible before the others get there to clean up.  You'd have to leave one side alone because they would destroy you before you could get more than one most likely.

That's assuming either side would even let you.  Why not just join a big corp that is constantly at war, and see if they'll let you salvage for them?  You'd be set on money and such anyways because you'd be a resource to them, and some would probably let you keep a portion of what you salvage I would imagine.

Actually, I suggest a covert ops ship because they can warp while cloaked. You can warp in at 100km to bookmark wrecks, then warp out. Then you can warp to each wreck in turn while cloaked, decloak, salvage it and warp out. your alternatives are using a cheap disposable frigate with a microwarpdrive and salvagers fitted.

Find a profitable system and anchor a giant secure container somewhere in it, then you can stash your loot between grabs. Your main defence will be catching people already fighting and getting in and out fast so they don't have time to see what you're doing and respond. Even then, I'd expect you to lose a lot of ships so either practice with a covops or use something cheap and insured.

Your Idea has merit, and isn't too far fetched.

Start off Intaki( Gallente ), or Sebiestor (Minmatar) choose industry, engineer path / also Military, spec ops works

first up train mechanics, and Survey to 3, then get salvage. Next get science up to 4 to fit tactors., now the long train Racial frig to 3, space command to 3 ( at frig 2 you can get a Navitas if Gallente, or Burst if matari ) then pick up Destroyer.

Now you go out and practice scanning. Every system has tons of wrecks littering the landscape, both NPC from missions, and players that go whoops.

Commonly missioners, and starters don't bother to salvage, and as it is not a hostle act grab that free cash. ( more intensive and better paying than mining once you have scanning down. the money from salvaging wrecks from lvl 1 missions alone will set you well, and finding lvl 2, 3, 4 is even better.

Once you get in your Destroyer the money really starts comming in, 8 highs mean 4 salvagers, 4 Tractors, or 5/3. by now your getting better, and faster at scanning, and making plenty of money, and as you gain experiance you can even start nicing left over loot among the werck salvage. which is starting you down the path of your 'getting in under their nose'

From here you can set your ship path to train for Covert ops ( warp wile cloaked) or Interdictors, and to use a cloak. As wewll as Micro Warp Drives. This is where you can start to operate in low sec, pulling in bigger rat salvage, and pirate victim leftovers ( granted loot may be gone, but the salvage )

The player market is very much in need of salvage, and you could supply your friend with great items, or sell them for extra proffit. As for sneaking in behind fleet wars, well Empire wars are constant, but if you really wanna play sneaky sneaky, and have a set o steel plated balls, try your luck getting into 0.0

    Good luck
