Yeah I just got Mozilla Firefox a few days ago. It's great. But there are like 2 sites that don't support it because they're dumbasses. I always hated IE but I never knew there were other browsers other than IE and Netscape Navigator. Well, I was dumb wasn't I?::::07::

    which 2 sites?

It's a bit trickier getting Java and Flash working with firefox but when installed they work just as well.

  • Sir-SvenSir-Sven Member Posts: 773

Well Adobe Digital Editor won't let you buy anything on Mozilla because it doesn't support it, and Gigex wont let you download on Mozilla. Nothing to worry about. Those are the only two i've noticed.

I am a bit confused.  Why would using Mozilla make you any smarter?  The article says

"Alternative browsers such as Mozilla or Netscape may not protect users, the agency warned, if those browsers invoke ActiveX control or HTML rendering engines.

The only defense may be completely disabling scripting and ActiveX controls."

It sounded like they indicated most browsers could have this problem IE just got the biggest mention since its the most used.  Then again I am not a computer guru by any means so maybe I just don't understand what they are saying completely.

Ive been making guild websites for a while now, and for testing purposes I use Opera, Mozilla FF, and IE. For normal sufing I just tend to use Opera. It's mozilla based and loads up pages fairly fast, supposedly faster than Mozilla's Fire Fox, and I have never had a problem dling with it yet.

BTW, It seems most hackers tend to target MS software, because it is the most globally used.. Using Mozilla based browsers may help in avoiding being hit.

I didn't think Firefox had anything to do with Active X?

The default version of firefox is strictly a empty browser with no plugins (No Flash, No Javascript)

  • BlaxusBlaxus Member Posts: 21

ActiveX is a microsoft only based scripting language, and as far as I know only IE (maybe myIE2) is able to read it. Javascript comes with all browsers (IE, Opera, Mozilla/FF, Netscape, etc..) and there are options to disable it, in one of the setup panels.

I stopped using IE about a year ago and never looked back. I've used Opera and Firefox, and currently use Firefox. My dad keeps having problems with spyware while using IE, and I've never had any spyware problems with Mozilla or Opera. I love em!

Most adware is built for ppl who use IE.

As for compatabilty, there are alot of addons you can get for Mozilla and (pretrty much essensial) for Firefox.

I dont use Opera I only have it for testing sites, so I cant tell you much about it.

Firefox is much better than IE. Only time I've had trouble is windows media in sites. I've only ran across maybe 4 sites that I was unable to view the video on the site

Grab the "IEView" extension for FireFox. Then, when you do come accross a site that is not rendering right in FireFox, you just right click the page and select "View in IE". Then you can view that one page in IE and close it when you are done. Allows you to get the benfit of both, without the hassle of IE allowing spyware and popups to happen all the time.

I migrated to firefox this week. By default its just 'ok'. However, once I installed a theme that I liked, and installed tab extensions and configured it properly (http://white.sakura.ne.jp/~piro/xul/xpi/tabextensions_en.xpi), the browser is FAR better. Tab extensions should come installed on default, as it vastly improves the browser.

Go to tools, click extensions. Find the extension you want and click on it. To the right there are three icons. The top one allows you to change the properties of the extension. If you want to get rid of it just click uninstall on the bottom with the extension you want to uninstall selected. Extensions are easy to install and easy to uninstall. I love them.
