I have done this quest  using 2 different  ways.

First way is to have a group with one mistrel but with high level DPS players and run fast from camp 1 to camp 3 (at the other end) to protect it.

The most interesting way (and most succesful) which also needs high level players (more than 39) is to have to small groups with 2 healers. Once you arrive in the instance take place. first group at camp 1 (the camp at the instance start) and second group at camp 3 (not camp 2 in the middle) and then start the quest.

The first  wave of the attack is done at the the same time in camps 1 and 3. Players must assist the rangers and not just take the whole aggro since they are a sub group. Place camps and traps if you have hunters exactly or use crowd control to lower the attack power where the rangers defend and most important take agro away from rangers trying to keep all of them alive with heals.

There are many attack waves (i dont remember the exact number)  but the attacks at camps 1 and 3 happen at about the same time which makes the quest too hard to be done using an unsplit  group. There have been many high level players (even 50) doing this quest and many times they just fail since coordination of the 2 groups is very important since some times the attack in one of the camps needs all 6 members to be present in the same place.

It is just another quest which even after really good efforts it fails. It needs too much time to get people for it (as many other quests of this kind) and even worse after some failed attempts the 'Hail to thee' role playing shakespearean crap (some people think that rp is talking like Hamlet) gives place to 'jack***', 'die ***holes' (minstrels' favourite), 'Go back to WOW' (all time classic) and many other words which are inappropriate for me to post (for the time beeing).

I just really want to meet the people who made these quests and the group-quest  system of lotro and ask them if they really think that this situation can bring longevity to the game.

It is not your fault. It is just another high level quest that i could rate level 39-40.

I have done the quest about 5 times. The first time we had a good team who knew their jobs. 2 person teams at each set of rangers, and we stayed at our designated set of rangers and ended up succeeding first try. The last four times was with a PUG and people tried the running back and forth crap and we had 4 wipes.

Get yourself a good team of six with a  Captain, LM or Minstrel teamed with a DPS or Guardian type at each set of rangers and make sure everyone stays at their designated camp and you can kick that quests butt. By the way the team that I succeeded with 's highest level player was only a 37 guardian. I was a level 35 minstrel at the time.

The quest is hard with a PUG ( LeeeeeeRoyyyyyyy!!!!!!)  that wants to run back and forth but with a disciplined team it is a pretty easy really. Think of it as practice for the really tough high level instances.

    I miss DAoC

Well, this is one of the most frustrating, badly written quests of LOTRO (not there are too many of these, thankfully ).

Those rangers are weaker then paperdolls. Pathetic

    DB

Denial makes one look a lot dumber than he/she actually is.

I managed to do this with pug at 3rd try, but i am lvl50 minstrel and bandits were grey to me. You just have to split your fellowship and focus.

I have resubbed month ago when i ran out of things to do and waiting for book10 to arrive. IF there were a lot more quests like this i would be playing still.

It can be frustrating quest but it aint badly written and rangers dont use plate so they are supposed to be squishy

And like someone said, this is good practise for later stuff that you will encounter, too bad there aint much more...

This is, without a doubt, the best quest in LOTRO.

The fast bash-tactic of fighting doesn't work.  You have to use all of your skills, have a well balanced team, and divide your resources effectively.

The quest is actually quite easy.  It took us four tries to get the strategy down.  On the fourth try we lost no rangers.  The key is simply to use all of the combat features available to you.  In particular, the target indicator.  As a ranger, this has become the most important tool in the game for group combat.  By knowing exactly who a mob is targeting, I can determine whose aggro I need to draw to best serve the group.  This is especially useful in drawing aggro off the rangers or healer before the mob even lands a hit.

As a side note.... it really does help to have a group that knows how to NOT attack a trapped or mezzed mob.

If more quests were like this, I would never stop playing.  Unfortunately, the mind-numbing Dol Dinen quests seem to be prevalent.

I did this quest at level 47, but with many lower leveled characters.  We failed probably almost 10 times.  However, a level 47 Loremaster and a level... was it 49 or 50 Minstrel came (from a fellowship member's kinship) and we split into two groups and handled it easily.

As a level 47 Hunter I was practically immortal, so I never died or loss much durability... so even though we failed repeatedly, it was fun every time.  :)

This quest just takes a bit on thinking, we finished it in 3 runs with low lvl 40'ish chars, after that its very easy to do. The trouble most people have is that there is no communication within the group.

All we did was split the group in to 2 groups of 3 , one group with the healer stayed at the main no1 camp, the other group of three swapped between the other 2 remaining camps depending what one was being attacked.

it is not hard at all if you communicate with each other rather than running around like headless chickens.

the design of quest is very simple , so the solution is also pretty simple too.

Oh yeah--you need healers and tanks (though I personally don't think it's necessary to have a guardian--minstrels make it much easier though).  It's not so much that the fellowship is wiped or that we can't kill the bandits, but we can't keep the rangers alive.
