    They've recieved emails giving them a position in the General beta, however the General Beta has not begun.  From what I understand those lucky 150 people won't have access untill they actualy open up the General Beta.

    There have been numerous contests to give people a "guarenteed spot" in beta. We don't know what that means, for all we know it means they might get in October 29th ;)

I mean in by beta app I've got a system that should run the Dx9 client wonderfully. I've got a tun of beta-testing experience, and I even spent over a year on TestLive in Anarchy Online, and was very well known by the highest lvl of ARK's and GM's. Hell I even had sit down chats with Gaute and a few other poeple. But it appears credentials played no part. Just how long you've been on, if you've never been in trouble and if you only post really constructively. IE the 150 biggest fanboi's on the lot. It really disappointed me. I love beta-testing games. Maybe I'll still get in on my credentials alone, but with only 150 people 2.8 months from release, my confidence has fallen dramatically. Well, at least it's only 2.8 months to release lol.

    *edit* was being rude, no need haha

Still, I'd rather be in game, beta-testing the crap out of the features, then outside of it wishing I were in.

    Ah, but wouldn't we all . We can never do more than speculate, but those spots most likely went to the biggest and loudest (refer to: well funded fansites) fanbois.

    If they sent out the invites the beta is most likly going to open rather soon. How you you may be pondering? Maybe later this week; or maybe next week. The game is due in October this much is true, and to to get the most out of beta a good month is needed. I really hope these testers dont take light of their situation and really dig in and do everything there is to do. I say this because bugs hide they don't want to be found and if you find them early you can destroy them and live "vermine" free.

    I understand why people may want to get into beta but please consider this;

    Betas usually are messy stuff. Software don't work, hardware don't work, quests are broken, races and classes is nerfed  and servers go down endlessly, quests and plots are revealed and may spoil the experience of wonder and suprise when you actually start to play after beta.

    Actually beta may be more like work that fun if you do what you are expected to do :)

    I wish you guys good luck anyways and hope for your sake that the general beta announcement  will come soon. End of october isn't very far off after all.

    Nah betas vary, i've been in some closed beta's which have only had minor problems in them, infact i've been in Alpha's which have been pretty stable and only had some stuff wrong.

    Plus i would of thought it will be pretty stable now since they've only allowed 3 months for beta testing, where most companys have their games in beta testing for 6months to make sure everythings perfect, although ofcourse that is just speculation.

    Public Betas, or even Closed Betas with public, randomly picked testers, are entirely overrated and no longer useful to test and perfect a game from an early beta to release quality standard.

    As many developers have stated already (Funcom among them) Betas are primarily about creating buzz, stress testing, and letting a couple of people try and abuse the system in order to fix last minute stuff.

    I decided to personally avoid Beta after SWG and Roma Victor. But I am glad to see it taking place.

    I think today companys are concerned about the negative buzz that can come from a true open beta...where signifigant numbers of bugs  are revealed. Instead open beta is viewed as a marketing/sampling tool for a fairly polished game.

    As has been said many times...there is much concern that  the servers and game mechanics haven't been stressed long enough and hard enough to ferrit out signifigant game problems. Funcom wants to hold their card close to their vest....but the day for showing what they have is fast approaching. Funcom more than anyone shoud know that they will only get one good swing at the brass ring.
