Are crafters viable in NGE?

Used to be a crafter back in 2003/04.  Enjoyed it.  Would consider returning if I knew that crafting, be it munitions, structures, whatever, was a viable and active trade.  Two questions:

1) Do crafters see any business these days?   Is any particular crafter type really struggling?

2) Does a crafter have the ability to be, um, competent for guild hunts / basic combat missions?  Or are crafters totally vulnerable?

Thanks for the replies.

Are crafters Viable, I would say yes Best Crafting Would be Shipwright/Arch, or Armor Smith/ Weapons Smith.

I have made 1.1 billion since returning in chapter 6 yes Crafting is viable everything I make sells.

I have no problems droping harvestors the new ones are ber 44.

    I'm rarely attacked at all.

Thanks for the reply.  I welcome any more input that can be offered.

I was an architect back in the day.  Enjoyed it quite a bit.  Advancement wasn't too time-consuming, and I could play casually.  I'm busier these days, but there's always time for gaming.     And I always wanted to try weaponsmithing.

Yes crafting is viable. I don't know about making a billion like the guy above stated (sounds like a lot to me, but who knows, maybe he plays 24/7) but there is demand if you're there for the supply part, it all can work out nicely. Reverse Engineering is a new feature that give some added value to crafters. Very meticulous and lengthy process, but it definitely adds flavour. Watch out though, the structures crafter (who is in effect architect/shipwright) doesn't get the standard RE capability - he can only RE ship parts.

If you were once into furniture making, you'll be delighted to know they have (finally) added colour customisation to furniture, which means you can choose the colour of your final pieces. Something like a Phenomenon (like the old Cool J track ;)

    Good luck to you...

I came back I still had 360 million credits I have used that to make more, I'm now at 1.5 billion so I made 1.14 billion I sold Beastmaster Gear and supplies, Armor some of it 98% to cap and other stuff what ever I make sells because I under sell bye 20% of the going rate and still make tons of credits, don't be greedy and your prosper.

Yep. How it has always been. If you are willing to undercut the current rate your guaranteed a sale.

lol i sold a couple of claimed items for a few million creds to help my new crafter. I went from 1 to 90 in like 3 days. (before the gungan head nerf) Now Im a lv90 structure crafter and I cant sell a thing. I also think grinding that fast to 90 was a mistake cause I still dont know shit about crafting really.

As for combat I got a nifty Traders friend gun(around 60-ish maybe) it does pretty good damage I guess. No combat abilites though.

All in all Im not enjoying crafting

Wow, that would've been really good back in the day when things were booming.

Crafting is very viable in SWG, its in some way's even better then it was back int he day's Now Kenze is the perfect example on how NOT to play trader (sorry Kenze but i geuse you know this aswell ), but for those that enjoy mmorpg crafting is in some way's complex and deep. The complezity comes from similiar things we VETS are use to with pre-cu crafting, difference is we now have like 2 crafting prof into one. There is even tho they mixed up the profs we still need eachother as traders as all 4 trader routes need eachother to make subcomponents and as far i can recall its heavyer then it was pre-cu in needing eachother. Especialy if one takes the route into BM, they gonna need all 4 crafters to become a succesfull BM. BM is another "new" feature in SWG which for us VETS will be very similair to BE+CH but BM goes futher then we use to if done correct, like the official website states everyone/every lvl can get into BM, the easyest stuff to make which really can do anyone is making mounts, now mounts on our server i feel are way over priced as like i said they do not consume re-processed enzyme's as they take the normal looted/extracted/forage types, as for a fighter pet you gonna need to re-procces lots of enzymes untill you hit a good result meaning you gonna need traders to make you the right tools as all 4 traders make pieces for BM and also fighter pets need high quality enzymes where mount don't care what type of enzyme we use to make them.

From my own experiance since i returned near 4 months ago we VETS have a advantage over those new to the game, cause again sorry Kenze i meet many new players like him that grind themself to a top lvl and have no clue what they actualy can do which is a shame as that might result in bad and negative responses from other people that can't seem to be able to be a true trader.A Ingame "new" friend of mine was so happy being able to learn the new schematics for  Elite miners with the expertize points but he hasn't even really worked with factory's as far i know only one time when i explained how they worked and helped him making sctructure modules, but as far i know he has not done anythng with it yet and seems to be clue less in how to make these Elite miners. What most totaly forget is planning, and a trader without planning should simply not become a trader. And patients is also one of the skills one must have as a trader as no one can hit max lvl and build everything without having the patient to do so, meaning subcomponents still need all sort of different type of resources, this means some might spawn right away some might take weeks/months before it spwns. Also the quality of resources spawns is still the same as it was pre-cu swg so it matters greatly in what type of stats you have on hte resource, and for me it still shows SWG has the most enjoyeble crafter prof from all the mmorpg i have played personaly.

Anyway simple conclusion if you are new to SWG trader make sure you have patients and the will to learn.

If you'r a VET you will notice many things are somewhat the same and wil definitly give you a advantage over the "newb" players as like we mostly see "newb" want it all and want it all now. Sorry i 'm sure there are allot of "newb" playing the game like they should and when i speak/write i write about my own experiance and about the people i meet myself, i'm not judging every newb or every VET but always only my own experiance

ps i'm Structural and Enginering Trader, where with my Struct Trader i make almost everything from Architect stuff to Spaceships tho my expertize points are for the most part into Architect, my Engineer Trader is all Droidengineer, i can do weapons but don't feel like doing them so i have no experiance in how the Trader side in weapons is doing might pick it up in a few months or so but for now the subcomponents and normal components keep my quite busy, a ingame friend of mine is doing armor, think he somewhere in his 30+ and seems to be doing okay with it. Also this guy really askes everything no matter what type of question and it shows in his development and understanding of skills, something i really apriciate when people arn't afraid to ask regardless what question about the game ingame.

Good write up Reklaw.    I would have to say it definetly takes time and planning and patience .........lots and lots of patience.

I have 6 toons 3 of which are crafters 1 Ent and 2 combat toons.

I can tell you that over the last month I have not participated in combat at all. Only crafting. Gathering resources, making factory runs ect... basiclly just getting everything in order and ready to really start my next crafting session. The thing is once you have everything set up it then becomes pretty easy.

RESOURCES, RESOURCES, RESOURCES   This is the biggest hiccup for me unless of course I am in an RE session then it's junk loot (which I guess could be considered a resource for that aspect)

My armorsmith is just waiting patiently to make the next run of prymus layered RIS. It would be a waste of time to make them with crappy resources. And some of the resources are so specific that they have only spawned 6 times in 4 years on my server.... GOOD STUFF lol.

My structures trader is loving the new coloring option. This makes custom orders come about  more frequently these days. Also was able to re decorate the guild hall and my houses with nice color schemes.

My tailor well she brings in all the money for me. Her RE skill is maxed and luck over 1000.

The only area lacking is weapons..... although Blixtev mentioned at the summit that they are looking into that so one can only hope.

Crafting is very viable right now, with all the crafting professions having something they can craft and sell and have returning business for, they will never bring back decay but what they are doing is with every chapter they are bringing in more and more things that will create recurring business, I make lots and lots of credit every week, I mean i am running at around 400 mil a week easy right now

That's impressive, would you might sharing what is profitable to sell now ? Came back to the game this week and found out that my Master Artisan / musician has been promoted to a LVL90 Domestic Trader ;).
