Are expansions bought?

Are the expansions for eve bought? or are they free content?

Just wondering if I should be looking for any special box, or if (maybe the first box that was made) any will do?

    All expansions are free.

Ok thanks, one less thing to worry about.

I never could understand why EQ Sims, etc had to release expansions every few months.

    Because they want your money!
(Besides the EvE 'expansions' don't really add enough to be an expansion..)

Played so far: 9Dragons, AO, AC, AC2, CoX, DAoC, DF, DnL, DR, DDO, Ent, EvE, EQ, EQ2, FoMK, FFO, Fury, GW, HG:L, HZ, L1, L2, M59, MU, NC1, NC2, PS, PT, R:O, RF:O, RYL, Ryzom, SL, SB, SW:G, TR, TCoS, MX:O, UO, VG, WAR, WoW...
    It all sucked.

    Yes, of course they do.

    I meant besides the obvious.

If you try to get into EQ1 or EQ2 you could buy a new computer or two with the money all the expansions cost! (Well, almost feels like it anyway.)

EVE Online own by CCP have the price Policy to include all the cost in the subscribtions fee. Due to the server and the structure EVE is built around EVE cant have addons that someone have and someone else dont have.  Soo all new content . all players get by paying a slighter higher fee then other mmorpgs on the market.

O thats right     " CCP wants your money  to ;) You know they aint like working for free ;)  People programming need to get cash to get food on the table clothes to there kids  rents/bills need to be paid.  They starve other wise...     I just happy I pay for in my view good product and "very nice and friendly owners of ccp"

Well, I don't mind that people get paid, just find it ridiculous that you have to buy 10 expansions at €30 each before you can play EQ1. (This was some time ago :-) And Eve doesn't seem to cost more than other games from what I saw on the website.

EQ is abit " over the edge" concerning addons ;)  they release nearly a addon each week on EQII

well EVE Online is coming out on DVD and seen the rec price on that from the re sellers here where i live and its 59 Euro.

the current subfee is 14 euros. Not sure if that going to raise 2008.

I dont think that they'll rise the fees, they didnt the last years and American Users pay still a lot less, cause of VAT and currency changing.

4 expansions and 3 minor adventure packs if one dont consider patches in 3 years is not to much.

Buying EQ with all to date expansion packs cost 20$ d2d.com and 30$ in shop here. EQ2 costs 30$ both d2d and shop. So it is not hundreds of dollar nor is it close to a 'new' computer. So anew player basically gets all the expansions in EQ2 in one package, for me in example I don't notice or care about the 3 expansion that there are today in EQ2 as I am starting it out of the box. WoW for instance has some bundles offer where you buy game+expansion togheter with a rebate but still those two togheter is more expensive then buying on game atm that's not the case in EQ+2.

Anyway I like the route that CCP has taken, still will like it if it changes but the current is also ok. From my view the world in EvE is more playerbased content then games like EQ/WoW and such. So what they have done up to now with evolving the game and the upcoming avatar and new graphics is great.

The MMO atmosphere in EvE is different in other games so I can't really see them do same kind of expansion packs as in other games.

That I wish alot of other developers also would do evolve the current game with making more candy like graphics, voice, etc etc. You have the spirit in the game the story there if one get tires of that, well that is it. Even though I enjoy EQ2 I'm puzzled they made an EQ2 game instead of really really update the engine and graphics for EQ.

I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

    Wrong

You pay $14.95 a month for the standard fee.  Just like every other MMO

If you pay 3 months at a time you can lower it to about 12.95/month equivalent.

If you pay 6 months in advance you can lower it to about 11.95/month equivalent

If you pay 12 months in advance you can lower it to $10/month ($120/yr for annual sub)

EVE is less expensive than the competition.

Also the expansions (Red Moon Rising, Revelations, etc) are just as big, if not bigger, than most PAID expansions which other mmorpg's put out.  Remember that the Revelations Expansion comprises the Revelations 1, 2 and 3 updates inclusive.  Each update is part of the Revelations expansion.

They're usually better than even WoW's previous expansion, they're free and they DON'T make your character completely out of date. Yeah, the company actually tries to be good in their business rather than just milking everyone.
