Sad but not entirely unexpected news for fans eagerly awaiting the release Age of Conan; Funcom has announced that the release date for Age of Conan has been pushed back again. The game which was originally set for release in the second half of 2007 now has a new release date of March 25th 2008.

Durham, USA - August 10th, 2007 - Funcom announce a new release date for 'Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures'. The highly anticipated MMO is now set to release on the 25th of March 2008. By setting a new release date for the game, Funcom can continue the focus on honing, polishing and improving the heralded qualities of the game, ensuring a fantastic MMO experience when it launches next spring.

"We naturally regret that we have to push back 'Age of Conan'. However, after careful consideration, and analysis of recent Beta feedback, we believe that the new release date is in the best interest of the gamers, our company and our owners," said Trond Arne Aas, CEO of Funcom. "We are fully committed to delivering games with absolute qualities, and in the current MMO marketplace we know that only the best is good enough to truly succeed. With the new release date we have therefore given ourselves more time to meet and deliver on the massive expectations for the game. We are certain that our choice will ultimately pay off, and that all 'Age of Conan' players will get a special online experience."

Well, that makes my decision a lot easier. Guess i only have to choose between Gods and Heroes and Tabula Rasa

Well, while this is sad news indeed, I'm glad to see that they want more time to further hone the gameplay and make further adjustments. Still, Crom weeps this day .

Heh, still doing better than Darkfall.

Good for them, and definitely good for all the players who will be getting the game.  I hope other developers start to take extra time to polish their games, instead of releasing buggy, unfinished mmos that need patches on day 1.  I'd rather wait for quality than settle for something half-ass right now.

Not a good move by Funcom.

WAR will be released now before AoC, more people will be settled into WAR and will not leave for AoC.  The major point for AoC from where I was standing was the loyal early adopter base.

Funcom 'should' of seen this coming years ago and hired the extra staff then.  I really hope this is not another great MMO hurt by poor management -- what do these MMO producer/managers get paid for anyway ?  Standing around and scratching thier a** apparently!  This is going to hurt AoC a lot.

    Crom abandoned us...

WoW expansion will probly launch before AoC, WAR too, Pirates of the Burning Sea... this is horrible. And AoC was supposed to be showcase for Windows Vista? More likely for another Windows version (Windows whatever) now.

It's obvious FunCom lacked the foresight to understand how many man hours it would take to release a playable version of AoC. However, what they lack in foresight they make up in learning from their mistakes. No matter how many customers they lose because of timing, it's nothing compared to how many they will lose for releasing an unfinished product. All devs are smart enough to know if their game is release ready or not. It's just whether they care enough or if they have enough money to get through the dev process.

i would rather have a finished game in march than vanguard in october. so i think it is a good thing they pushed back date to make it better.

That's a silly thing to say, the release date had very little to do with VSOH's demise, poor management was the problem.

Fact is, AOC may still tank or may rock WOW off the top sub spot, no telling at this point.

Let's face facts though, who after seeing game play footage and following the game didn't see this coming? You can not be surprised.

Very good desicion to push back .Hope they will not be lazy next 7 months before new release date.

They might use that time to alter some gameplay stuff in order to make it more interesting .

I am possitive now that we will have a good launch now rather than oct 30 .

If you read the whole post, the delay is for streamlining the combat system as the beta testers thought it would be too complicated to learn, and double the time it took to reach lvl 20 and enter the online part, although I do enjoy complicated games(cough cough SWG before the dreaded NGE cough cough). Since I am not in the beta, I cant tell you how the original combat system worked, but I am with most of the posters here, I would rather have a polished game at launch than a buggy release pushed out before its ready(been there done that have the T-shirt), and quit the game early because of the launch problems.

Cudos for the devs at Funcom for telling us the truth, even though they stated awhile back that AoC would make the October date.

I'm still looking forward to this amazing game, hope to see you all there.

Really bad Frackin mistake. WoW and WarHammer No way Conan graps ant market share. I was going to leave WoW for Conan before WarHammer and if they held me great. Now, Fkum, Hammer rules!!

TR sucks so you might want to try G&H.

I think it's a really bad assumption when people believe just because a release dates get pushed that it will be "less buggy" or the game will become "more polished". If pushing the date does actually accomplish either one or both then I am thrilled and applaud the decision. If however they, like so many other MMO publishers, push out a beta with the "we'll just fix it, soon" they are in real trouble.

Good luck to the development team. I hope we can finally get a title that will put a serious dent in WOW.

A right move did by Funcom but release date is pretty close to WAR Online. Year 2008, year of MMO, sequel to year 2004.

All canceled. Waiting on Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning.

  • Isn't this the 3rd time the release date has been backed up?

I see that AoA beta2 has also been delayed....

  • eric_w66eric_w66 Member UncommonPosts: 1,006

Why do people think WAR is going to make its timeframe? Sure, its just a WoW clone to its core with Warhammer names slapped on, but I don't see it releasing in the next 6 months either.

PotBS? Different style of game, no a direct competitor to AoC in my opinion.

Gods & Heroes? I forsee..... mid 2008 for it as well at the earliest.

BTW, I'm no AoC fanboy, I just call it like I see it. Better to give more time for a better release than to try to rush one out the door (See AO's launch).

gaute godager learned the hard way.  never ever ever ever ever ever release an mmo unless you are absolutely, 100% positive that the game is ready.  he went thru HELL with anarchy online's launch and caught hell for the decisions he made back then.

its refreshing to see, he learned from his mistakes.  i think hed rather sever his own reproductive organs than blow the launch of this game.

cant say as i blame him, i remember falling thru the ground in omni ent and my character being stuck "in the world" for a week before they could fix it and when they did, i couldnt zone into omni forest anyway because well... omni forest was broken too.

bravo gaute.  you learned from your mistakes.

    Games i'm playing right now...

    DOOM!!!  DOOM I SAY!!

Seriously though, whatever game you're super duper excited about either has been or will be delayed at some point.  It's the nature of MMOs.

Yea planned to get AoC before WAR but now the chance that i buy AoC is slim, unless WAR is a big flop.

But still it is a good decision. The MMO scene is quite harsh and if you release a game to soon people will dump it in the trash and never pick it up again even if you make it good.
