Just started playing, im a level 4 priest. Just wondering when do you start to get into specific holy or shadow? If you wanted to do only holy would you just get holy spells and no shadow in the start to save yourself the trouble? Or can you mix the two and still be ok? Im confused on how it all works.
thanks

So is it bad to get holy spells if you want to be only shadow after 10?
No, you can always respec later but the more times you respec the more it will cost ya. My suggestion is to go holy if your gunna do nothing but group and run instances or go shadow if your gunna solo alot.

You should learn all the spells your trainer offers to teach you. Even for shadow priests, healing can occasionally be very useful (e.g. when recovering after a fight).

You will get your first Talent Point at level 10, and then one point for each level after that. Talent Points can be spent as you wish in any of your character's three Talent Trees (this menu will become available at level 10). Talent Points spent can be unlearned at any trainer if you wish to spend your points in a different way ("re-spec"). As someone else has already pointed out; if you are planning on grouping for the most part, spend your points in order to heal efficiently. If you are planning on leveling by yourself for the most, then spend your points in order to do damage efficiently (Shadow Priest). If you choose the latter you should be just fine with enough healing to keep yourself alive and do considerable amounts of damage - thus leveling quicker. Getting all skills/ranks - especially the ones you won't be using - is not a must, and getting the cash to train can be a pain at lower levels, so you may want to use your money wisely at start and put some skills on hold.
just to reiterate, Talents are one thing, your spells are another. Spend your talent points as you wish but for the love of all Holy, Buy all your spells! they are all useful! (ok... you can drop mind vision if you want, but it is not very expensive and it is kinda funny and can be useful for scouting things ahead)

As I recall, teh tree becomes active at level 10
