Release date

I've searched. All the dates I've found are just guesses and speculation.

Does anyone know for sure?

Thanks,

No.  We haven't announced an official date so it's all guesswork.  Hopefully soon, but no promises.

Fyi, human "soon" and developer "soon" have two very different meanings ;)

  • jonaylwardjonaylward Member Posts: 87

From what I've seen, these are not your typical Developers. When they say "Soon", they mean "Soon" not "Soon <tm>".

I believe they're shooting to open the Closed Beta to several thousand more Testers in the next week or maybe two to put the final touches on things like the economy and serverload... Then I've heard word of a short Open Beta, then Launch.

So, yeah... Soon like "you and me" soon, not "Soon-ish".

May I ask.  Is it expected within the next few months or is it likely to be something like a 4th quarter release?

I know you can't really answer that, but It doesn't hurt to try.

I wanna say as well that I've spent the better part of today snooping around on the official site, reading dev blogs, and forum posts and I really admire the effort you guys have put forth staying in touch with your community.

Yeah, umm, release the damn game, I'm really, really bored.

    Wish Darkfall would release.

I'll just put my money into another game. Age of Conan to be precise. I was looking forward to playing this game a month ago. Now i am looking past it.

Have fun spraying a rediculous amount of blood around, in my opinion all that crap takes away from the game and has no meaningful purpose.

I'm looking forward to sailing the high seas looking for/causing trouble. As far as the release date I think most developers used Vanguard as an example on how to pressure their suppliers to hold off on forcing them to release the game early. I want to play PotBS asap as well but I'd rather play a polished product than something that was rushed out the door.

personally I believe on the pirate day open beta will begin, and since as we all know 42 is the answer, exactly 42 days later the game will be released.

It seems to me that PotBS will probably suffer the fate of many games that constantly push back their release dates.  A great game is showcased to the world and a release date is given, then it's pushed back repeatedly, but in the meantime another game comes out that draws attention away from the the former game.  PotBS does look like it could be lots of fun, but the 2 best things it had going for it,  A) the closeness of the original release date to the release of the "Pirates of the Carribbean"  movie to spark interest in this particular theme, and B) the period of time it would have been up and running before the release of the next highly anticipated MMORPG (Warhammer Online), will have passed by the time the game is actually released to the public.  Do I think that the delay will improve the quality of the game?  Well hell ya I do, but I tend to wonder if developers weigh the tendency for gamers interest to wander against the extra time to tweak and add more content.  I guess it comes down to what they think is more important, releasing a better game later with more content, or striking when the irons hot.  All I know is this, should PotBS come out in the next few months; yes, I most likely will buy it and play the hell out of it, but I'll most likely drop it like a bad habit when Warhammer Online comes out (assuming they don't continually delay release as well, hell it occurred again just recently).

Well many mmos these days are being delayed because as its been demonstrated with Vanguard, you only get 1 chance at release, and if its early or a screw up, youre toast. Its better to delay, even multiple times, and get the product right, than release early and buggy.

But I think this game must come out this year else it risks losing a lot of gamers to other products.

But I think this game must come out this year else it risks losing a lot of gamers to other products.

Anarchy Online is very much a prime example of this. It released in 2001. I personally experienced the beta and release of the game. I have yet to experience anything as horrible. To this day, Funcom has never been able to recover from this. They never broke the 100,000 subscriber mark. By the end of 2001, they had just over 20,000 subscribers. You can play the classic game for free now. How is Funcom making money on AO? Through in game advertising. Yep, you can see billboards plastered all over the place with ads. AoC was recently pushed back because Funcom knows what will happen if they have another AO fiasco.

You only get one chance to release your game. No matter how much Sony improves Vanguard at this point, it will never be a high subscriber game. First impressions are everything in this industry. Pushing back a release date isn't a bad thing. Pushing back a release date like Darkfall has done is. PotBS is in beta, you can see actual gameplay, people can play the game at conventions and expos, they offer a usability lab for players to come in and play the game for a short session. If FLS feels they need to push the game back a few months to help ensure it releases in a stable, solid state that is fun to play, more power to them. I'd bet Rick Saada knows how important that first impression is. If FLS needs more time to make the game better, I believe they should take it.

Do I want to play the game? Absolutely. Do I want to sit through another delay in release? Not really. Is it for the betterment of the game? I'd put money on it. I already plan to play WAR. My entire guild has been anticipating it for years. Does that means I also won't pick up and play PotBS if it's a fun and enjoyable game? Nope, if it's a game I'd enjoy playing, I'll play it. And from what I've seen to this point, it looks like a game I'd enjoy spending time in.

I don't think any mmorpg will loose customers if they delay. That line has been used way too many times.Every time an mmorpg is delayed -wich lateley happens a LOT - you hear people saying well then they'll go to game X instead of game Y.I find this bs BUT i do however think that every time you delay a game the game get's more and more hyped and the people will expect more of the game every time it is delayed.

This being said i know a lot of people who have been waiting for POTBS and now are verry afraid that their expectations are much bigger then the game actually is.In other words they'll try it but probably say after a few weeks : Nah been there done that move on to the next mmorpg.Only time will tell.

As for the release date , these days i take it lightly and don't believe the release dates they give any more for any mmorpg. Thus the next big mmorpg to be released is mine....i don't care if it's POTBS or gods and heroes or age of conan.I am too sick of waiting for game X and then leaving game Y on a side without ever knowing if it maybe even was better then game X in the end.

Top management has shown zero sensativity to calls to push the game out.....which I applaude.Best thing to do is not follow some of thes games you want to play so closely. Your are just stressing yourself.(easier said than done I know).

  • flakesflakes Member Posts: 575

Well problem is the developers themselves tells us the customers the game will be released at that specific day. That's purely done so they know they ahve the attention of possible costumers to hype the game and when the release comes near a lot of people who follow the mmorpg development will have heard the game is bound to be released.

So allthough i agree a game should be released in the best way , it still is the developers fault people are not satisfied if the promised released is delayed.

Not saying FLabs invented this since it is a trend the last 2 years for mmorpg developers to delay their game.Mostly the delay is told tothe public a few weeks/months in advance and then delayed for a verry long period.....so they knew sooner they couldn't deliver on time but just wanted the customers to stay focused on the game. And that's the part i hate , just don't give a release date then.Like i said earlier on i don't look at release dates any more. They are nothing but air these days.

Thanks for typing in the exact same font as me, it makes it so easy to read.. , I don't really feel like reading flame bait, not worth arguing with a toddler..but I don't see how you can call me a troll, and say that I have issues with WoW, I think wow is a very well polished game, and blizzard is one of, if not the top pc gaming developer for a reason..that is beside the point, you came into the pirates of the burning sea forum talking about how you are really ticked at the gaming world, because no MMO's are as good as WoW, and you say I am trying to look smart, I believe that  I do because I am an intelligent person, but when you do something like that, you make yourself look like you need a helmet and a pair of elbow pads.

P.S     "take it elsewhere"   do you even know wtf this topic is about?

Please forgive me if I say I enjoy playing WoW. Yeah, I been waiting for potBS release but when it got delayed I tried WoW and got sucked in. I'll probably still going to try to play potBS but with so many friends I have in WoW right now, it'll be a short stint. For some people like me, the game community and its atmosphere is what we want. Oh yeah, I play Eveonline too!

"Do you want to place a bet on that?"

Now that is a funny statement.  Thanks for the laugh!

I think folks better hope this is one of the good games.  I do not know yet (because I still haven't been picked for beta! #$%#$%)

All I do know is that a lot of folks are going to keep playing Wow for a long time (I don't for the record) if this and maybe one other don't come in and fullfill the gap.  I've seen nothing else coming out that beats what is already available in any way, shape, or form.
