I voted AOC(WAR would be second choice), but after a chain of fiaskos, disappointments and plain old scams, im not betting my money on anything. I'll have to wait and see.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
I wanna know what every one thinks would take over 08, and why?
I am very excited about Warhammer. The company behind WAR has a lot of good stuff going for it. The PR people are intelligent, witty, and spot-on when it comes to hyping their game. The graphics look amazing, stylized, and fun. The PvP and PvE look interesting. The races and classes look unique and very worthwhile. Everyone fights. You can level in PvP. PvP is what the game is about.
The others in the running just don't shine for me.
Pirates of the Burning Sea - can't you people try something new for a change?
I can't play any game which switches from player to ship. I have no idea why. I am just unable to remember two sets of keybinds without going nuts. Perhaps I'm losing my edge. Also, I really don't like pirates and no new Sci-Fi games are coming out that appeal to me. I'm waiting on SLIDERS ONLINE =P

Yeh ofcourse AoC with its PvE orientation and complete crap animations and glass terrain that has your avatar constantly sliding around is gonna beat WAR. So far, AoC graphics look way better than WAR. But that's just me, not a fan of cartoons. WAR will have a massive game world, item decay, player looting, What WAR has is not real player looting. AoC looks like the more carebear game to me. They look equally carebear IMO.
For 08 i reckon WAR will draw most of the PvP crowd, however WoW will again dominate with it's expansion Warth of the Lich King unfortunately.
Most of the WoW players are from Far-East, but I doubt WoW can keep up with the competition in the West much longer, maybe year or two.

Once the WoW crowd starts leaving in large numbers (probably well after '08) that group will either quit MMO's and move to the next Blizzard game or just fragmentize accross the genre. I'm looking at mmorpg.com's list of mmos to the left of the screen right now and it just seems to get bigger and bigger.
So there will never be another WoW, and no mmo will ever 'dominate' again (until World of Starcraft comes out).

i dont think any of those will "takeover" (beat wow) but i do belive this 3 will become pretty "big" in 08

Have you seen all the WAR videos and compared them with AoC videos?.... The WAR videos ae far more informative and numerable and they talk about the game and what it's about. Some of the AoC viseos are good but i hated the E3 one from gamespot as the dev was basicaly cumming in his pants when he was talking about in-game nuditiy, i don't know about you but i'd rather a deveolper focus on game mechanics rather then popping boners over virtual women. WAR will have a massive game world, item decay, player looting, meanigful PvP both instanced and world. It will also have great Pve with public quests ect. AoC has one zone for PvP, anything that happens in that zone has no effect on the rest of the game world. There is no player looting, all you get is blood money which sounds like honour points from WoW to be honest. AoC looks like the more carebear game to me. Have you seen the war video with the giants walking in the air? have you seen the lack of collision detection? uninspiring terrain in warhammer?
here is some info about PvP:
WAR = Factional AoC =GvG
PvP point of view:
In a factional system you have built-in friends and enemies. It's just the way the game is designed. People on your faction are your friends (you typically can't attack them at all except in a /duel), and people on the other faction are your enemies. It's a very black and white situation.
In a guild-based or non-factional system the line is not so clear. The guy that helped you out yesterday might take your head off today. Politics and guild drama run rampant. People in your guild today might splinter off and be your sworn enemies tomorrow. Your enemies today might ask to ally with you to take on a bigger foe. You never know what the game will hold for you. It's a much more chaotic/exciting environment.
I want the freedom to choose my own friends and enemies. GvG gives that to me.
There is little to no accountability for behavior in RvR; punks, gankers, and smack talkers can fade into the anominity and safety of their faction. Not to mention leechers and people there for the ride doing nothing to help in a battle… Often such behavior is encouraged in RvR because the enemy is faceless and the consequences are few. No RvR for me. I want to choose who my enemies are and not have the game choose them for me.
GvG offers more freedom. RvR is repetitive really unless there are more than 2 facets. Once a certain time has passed, the entire regions are reset. There is no long-lasting effect. It just starts all over.
In comparison, in a GvG type game, guilds can hold their assets as long as they can hold their assets. They are able to make a permanent impact on the game world itself, shaping it, forming it, contributing to it. This is AoC’s border kingdoms.
In an RvR system, I am stuck with idiots. I cannot throw them out of my faction. I cannot kill them, and they are free to annoy me with their childish behaviour. I don’t even get to chose who my "friends and allies" are. The Computer decides for me. And in return I get an ever repeating, yet senseless struggle on a never changing world map.
Now you have to wonder how long anyone will play the game when nothing they accomplish means anything because the world resets all by itself.
How repetitive is WAR going to be?
How different AoC battlekeeps be, when the lay of the land has impact tactically in your fight. In a PvP fight in WAR you press the shortcut for Auto Attack - stream off your skills, how easy is that, and how many times have we seen that in other games.... Directional Attacks in AoC will make PvP much more fun.
Its the new innovative / different approach that Funcom is taking with AoC that excites me, especially Formation Mounted Combat in a PvP area.
You forgot to put "none of the above" in your poll. Atleast half of those titles will either flop or be pushed back to '09 just based on the law of averages. I doubt any will maintan over 500k subs past december '09 unless they're released late in the year, or the game is actually fresh and innovative but that's a bit much to hope for right?

I voted AoC. WAR is more PvP oriented so at this point it will in no doubt be number 1 untill atleast release of AoC and WAR

Doktar - 70 Troll Priest - Perenolde
Also, shouldn't Darkfall be in a "Battle of 2023" thread? I'm pretty sure that game isn't coming in 08.

We did. The end result was Auto Assault.
The PVP in fury is really disappointing. I'd say either WAR or Aion. I'm not interested in AoC much.

AOC is gonna stomp carebear wannabe war into the ground. it has everything a
TRUE mmorpg player could possibly want.
Everything Happens For A Reason! "Shadowziel"
Well, WAR is a WoW sequel, so it will outsell all others, but if we talk about quality, I would say AoC.
Of course Darkfall would pwn all of these, but I think we'll see the second coming before Darkfall hits beta.
Ive voted WAR... but did you say item decay in WAR??? You mean the item will break and can't be repair?
RIP Orc Choppa

I voted WAR, because it will attract a lot of WoW kind of players. I'm not my self interested at all that game, but that doesn't mean others aren't.
MMORPG.COM has worst forum editor ever exists
Stargate Worlds ftw!
AoC is gonna be weak and WAR will fail.
WAR will definitely dominate those other games as far as popularity and/or subscriptions, anything beyond that is just personal preference.
