...it is in dire need of some content. I have been playing for about 2 months and this is what I am seeing...
1) Missions are for fame and dappers which seem to be of little use once you have guilded. You also must guild to get a steady stream of catalysts and boosts. Dappers have little use because good guilds provide equipment and dappers.
2) While crafting system is cool, it is somewhat pointless since better crafters exist in all categories. Why should I grind (and it is a GRIND) if the stuff already exists and won't be purchased anyway?
3) The last point also makes the need for digging, which can be quite tedious as is, moot.
4) Unless you PvP, this seems like a place to just hang out and grind a bit with nice, diverse group of gamers.
I REALLY like this game because of the skill system and the community but it is in ridiculous need of content. The rites quests are few and far between of giving useful "stuff" to make them worth doing. I definitely still suggest people try this game for a few months past the free trial because the landscapes are vast and lush but the game will get boring after this time UNLESS Gameforge starts adding some content to the game. I am on a 6 month membership but won't be playing until some new stuff comes out. I don't mind paying the money to keep this excellent game going but won't be re-upping unless they give this game some needed attention.
Good luck to all you friendly homins I have met and hopefully Gameforge does something to bring me back to Atys in the coming months since the MMO market is woeful these days...

Yeah,.. it throws off a lot of people. The starter Island (Silan) is the definition of "quest oriented" the mainland is the polar opposite. From your post it seems pretty clear you like quest based games.
Fame IS useful whether in guild or not, as without my Wastelands teleport tickets I'd be a very sad homin.
Harvesting will get you more dapper than mission grinding could ever hope to bring you.
And furthermore the game is playable without catalysts, players mastered skills to 250 before they ever existed. Chalking up an ill gaming experience to not having XP cats is a real poor excuse. (I make my argument here in regard to cats 'cause I have no idea what you mean by "boosts" {Surly not those useless flowers!}) Though I don't see the problem with being guilded.
Dapper do have limited use though, the wheel, grinding crafts up to lvl 100 on NPC mats, etc.
So you mean like crafting in every other game? Cause every other game has a crafting lvl limit, no? Except in Ryzom equipment degrades, so there is a constant need of high lvl equipment, and for reasons such as high level player not interested in the harvesting it takes to provide the market with master crafts and high level crafters leaving the game, there is demand for new master crafters. And then add in the concept of figuring out equipment recipes...
I can't make an unbiased argument here as I am a certified dig junkie.
Ummmmmm... minus the PvP thing, EXACTLY. But then as compared to what? Running through horribly devised quests over and over again with unfriendly childish groups of gamers?

I hear you, this game needs new content bad, it been stagnant for more then a year now, last new thing was the Silan starter island i think... and that was something aimed at newbies... after 7 or 8 months i stopped playing for the simple fact that at some point u burn out in this game cause there is nothying else to do then grinding an almost similiar skill up again.

The OP has a good point; I'd resub in a heartbeat if GF would finally add something new and shiny. It saddens me to see one of the most beautiful gameworlds turned into a treadmill because dev's can't figure out how to create interesting gameplay but instead give you 250 (per skill!) of levels to grind.
GF may think they have plenty of time but i'ts not enough to have the prettiest 3D chatroom on the web they need to provide a reason for being there. Hoping the great community will keep them afloat while they try to find out the absolute minimum amount of effort on which an MMO can survive before a player exodus sinks it isn't good enough.

First off, I am not trying to demean this game, just calling it like I see it for outsiders who might read this thread wondering about the game. By the title of my post and the last line of it, I thought it was apparent that this is the only game worthy, on the market, of some subscription money, if only a few months to see if you'd like the things that I did not.Next, I actually am not a quest driven player, I just would like to see some more content, quests or otherwise. Some quests would be good just to add some balance to the extensive leveling system. They have this awesomely huge story line for Atys that could have some cool missions linked with it and there is next to nothing about it.
Thirdly, I completely disagree with you, based off playing style, about catalysts. Since this game has the most extensive skill system, ever, you need to have catalysts to get you through some levels faster (funny to say faster when trying to get to 250). I will put this quite simply for outsiders....would you like to have to collect/buy materials for 20 million high quality boots (this is not an exaggeration either) to reach level 250 or half that amount? If you said the former, you are a gaming masochist.
Finally, as I said before, why would I spend an inordinate amount of time GRINDING forage and crafting skills to get money that is useless, assuming someone not in a guild would buy them? I figured out how crafting works with different recipes and completely agree that the system is good, if not the BEST, but there is little need for what is being made. Part of the fun of crafting is being useful for the community and, by your own admission, there is very little need for midlevel crafters. Couple this with no catalysts to move you up a bit quicker, and you are talking about a very mundane crafting and foraging experience for hundreds, if not thousands of hours (again, no exaggeration) . Also, remember that while most people like to group (hence the MMO bit), some don't want to be in a guild.
In conclusion, I want to say this to you, Emptyish, because your reply seemed like you were lightly lashing out at me and it is unwarranted....I love this game. As I said before, it is the BEST game out right now and should be checked out for at least a few months by serious MMOers. The game, however, is in woeful need of content. One of the prior responses said it best....a beautiful 3D chatroom experience with , mostly, kind and diverse people. So, please, don't sour my view of the Ryzom community by subtly demeaning (i.e. suggesting I am a quester and then ripping in to questing) my playing style, experience, or preferences.

to quote Marjo from her Q&A:
In parallel and still in the same move, we finished the first series of missions on mainland (level 50) and are now working on missions that will follow players up to level 100. At the end of each line you will get a reward and a new page in your Encyclopedia.
So I guess thay are working on missions. Might not be much help once you have passed level 100. but it does mean that eventualy we will see missions at level 200-250, which would be nice Also looks like the encyclopedia is also getting a boost which cant be a bad thing.
I disagree with your crafting analysis. Once you are off the island, you can craft gear that is WAY WAY better than anything on the island. If you know where to look, and who to sell to you can make a good bit of dapper. Sure there's quite a large bit of grind involved, but going out and making it worthwhile will ease that up. once you have gotten to a high enough level then people will come asking you for your gear.
Digging. One word(or, well. 2 letters): PR. If you find diggin above ground boring, try digging underground. It will certianly keep you on your toes, as well as letting you have access to exel/supreme materails, which would mean more people would want the items you craft. But you do need 60 fame with a faction to use the TP's. I guess thats why missions are worthwhile at the moment.
Anyways, sorry. I'll stand off my soap box.

Im in full agreement with the OP
I would also like to add that the lack of low lvl new players on the mainland was a problem for me. Once you get off the starter isle it's like your thrown into hell, and your the only one there.
Mobs are a good bit tougher, and their was no one around my level I could find to group and advance with. It seems the only hope of getting a group in that game is if your in a guild, and someone is willing to power level you..for me thats problem..takes away the challenge and just makes it a grind.
That and as said, the lack of things to do but grind, whether it be healing, digging, fighting, w/e, made the game far to linear for me.
As said before i can tell you new content for higher lvls is needed badly, if they dont come up with endgame stuff within the next 2 or 3 months this game will be dead in a year and that would be a total waste sadly, cuz in essence its the best MMO i ever played, but at some point it indeed gets to be a fancy 3d chatbox, standing around the stables, looking around, doing nothing......
Also the other point another poster brought up wil kill this game maybe even sooner, if your a newbie in this game u probally will feel very alone, since everyone around you got multiple 250's or is close to getting a few.... sure, every week 10 new ppl come to the mainland but the mainland is so big that those 10 peeps could easily be hours away from eachother. And in all truth those extra $ from those 10 peeps wont cut the losses this game is still making, imho the biggest mistake GF made is by advertising only in their own channels.... they are missing out on a lot of ppl for instance by not advertising on this very site or any similiar sites.
I am starting to think the free Ryzom project maybe was the best thing that could happen to Ryzom, tho i was very against it around december last year. I am afraid Ryzom will be GF's first money losing enterprise, simply since they dont know what they bought and how this market works.

I can understand how you feel. I myself have several 250's and yes, i am bored.
GF are builing the game from the ground up, you can't say 'well they promised that to us 2 years ago' becuase, frankly. they didnt. GF have only been about for 6 months and they are doing all the stuff that Nevrax should have done 6 months into opening the game. GF will be building up a lower level playerbase. for now, at least the lower level players may feel a bit left out. But soon more people will come.
It's easier to resubscribe to a game where you have a high level char, than to subcribe to a new game and grind the chars. Hence why GF are working on the latter. Things will come for older players, it's just a matter of time. Maybe you should take a break from ryzom for a couple of months, it's what im doing. becuase i would rather come back to a game i love than stay in a game that annoys me.
Also NEVRAX advertised on this site (and SEVERAL others) similir time to when the ring went out. and well. that didn't help did it.

Without getting into a pissing match all I am going to say is that Ryzom does not need more "content" it needs more "features". Ryzom has been my favorite sandbox, unscripted and truely a freeform MMO game. All the content I ever needed was created from the creative fingertips of friends, guildmates and local community. What it lacks are a core set of unique mechanics that can keep the game interesting in comparison to what other MMO's offer. The Ring was one of the best selling features Ryzom had in a long time, it was step one in the right direction.
If you need driven content, I suggest Everquest 2, it has plenty of guided content to keep a new player busy for some time. I am not suggesting you leave Ryzom, but I feel adding missions ("content") will not solve Ryzom's issues. It needs more than a variety of missions to make it what many would consider a Top Tier MMO.
It would help the cause if www.gameforge.com actually worked and if www.gameforge.de actually mentioned Ryzom as being one of their products. The only mention of Ryzom on GF's main site (not the .com one) is a 9 month old news bit stating that GF has purchased the game from Nevrax. It would almost seem as if GF doesn't want people passing by their site to know about the game or to get more English players. Or perhaps the same folks that maintain the main Ryzom web pages also maintain GF's other ones.
www.gameforge.com is a completely different entity - its not by GameForge AG (as should be obvious from the fact the page is just a logo and no other pages... and its not even GF's logo) so there's no reason for it to mention Ryzom really
As for www.gameforge.de I agree its not the best site in the world... there was an answer in the most recent Q+A why Ryzom isn't on their site but I cba to go find it; if you care you'll go do it, otherwise ... well no more conversation needed
Personally I quit the game a coupla months ago because all I ever did when I logged in was go to Outpost battles or stand around chatting to people. But having said that, I still think the game has a lot of promise and I trust GF to do what's needed to get the game profitable again so they can start doing what it deserves instead of what it needs *sigh*

Last two patches have been disasters. All GF is doing is tweaking things and making more of a mess.
The game is still vibrant and wonderful. Does it have it's flaws? Of course. It depends what you want to do. If all you want to do is PvP or level, then yes it will seem like all you do is level and PvP.
In every game I have ever played (over 50 beta'd and played) I have ran into the same argument: "This game is nothing but a grind", "This game has becopme nothing but a constant search for armor"....all the same if that is what you are going after.
Why not do something different, like make a player ran event? Roleplay? Or hell, do what I did, make a podcast..it has shown me sides of the game and community that I have never seen.
I don't mean to sound like I'm responding angrily, I know Spireth and I know he's one of the coolest players, that has been around a long time. But I want new players reading this to know that yes, there is NOT a limitless supply of things to do in ANY mmo. That's why, sometimes, you either step up as a member of the community and participate or you just keep grinding.

Since the three weeks ago when I originally posted this, I really reconsidered this game after setting it down (uninstalled) I looked again at games on the market and just can't find anything better than Ryzom. I am not saying that this is like settling for less than I would expect, more of hoping that the foundation that they have established will be worth my resub in a few months. I really took to heart what some people kept emphasizing about this game being what you make it so I decided to set up a solo guild and help out with donations to community outposts. Might sound lame to some people but it gives me a chance to play four different races and help out the smaller non outpost guilds out there. Anyways, I still hope they (GF) add some quests and content while continuing to encourage new players to give Ryzom a shot past Silan.....See ya all in game

Did I read this correctly and see that you said you had a solo guild AND an outpost? Wait, is that even possible? hehe...
I don't keep up with OP stuff at all so I'm not sure. If so. congrats man, that's a big accomplishment! And thanks for contributing to the game and community!

I havent been playing playing ryzom as long as you so i'll just comment on some of your points...
2) As has been stated by others, what do you expect? there isnt 1 mmo that has player made items for sale that has not been sold before. Infact comparing to wow, in wow its basically who's selling it the cheapest will sell more as the stats on items are static. However, on ryzom, the stats are dynamic due to the variations of materials used during crafting. All i can hear from this post is that your obviously not a hardcore crafter type, and you want to make millions easy peasey. Some people in ryzom might not be interested in the combat content, and therefore having a more complex crafting system gives them a more fullfilling experience.
Same as harvesting. There are people who like fishing in real life, personally i'd rather watch pant dry, this is the same with harvesting. Ryzom, compared to others games has one of the most advanced harvesting systems, that provides time consumption for people who are not interested in combat, in effect giving them the materials they need for crafting.
If your looking for a simple crafting system, more content, then there are other mmo's out there. For me ive played a selection of mmo's, i'll talk about wow as he has the largest number of subs.. although wow has loads of content, missions and people, it lacks the ability of freedom with your class and proffesions, everyone has the same skills, the next lvl of skills are the same skills with a new animations. At least in ryzom you can adapt the skills.
You might find crafting and harvesting boring, but some people actually enjoy it more than the combat.
Its not destination thats important its how you get there.
