In my long time of gaming, I've done my fair share of being a board warrior. It's not until recently that I've started avoiding message boards and main chats for games I like because I've noticed, the more I put myself through them, the less I enjoy the game because of everyone elses negativity. The big question is why do we care? Do we really need 300 page threads of people arguing back and forth about how this game sucks, and therefore you must think it's terrible too, or how it's awesome and here's a list of reasons why you're wrong. Why don't we just enjoy the games we enjoy, and ignore the games we don't. Why do we feel the need to go on some sort of holy quest to spread the word of how such and such a game sucks the mightiest of donkey balls because we didn't happen to like it? What do we actually gain from it besides a slightly larger post count and a loss of enthusiasm for something we might have liked, had joe noob not spammed global every day of the week with his "list or reasons why this game is a shitload of fuck"?

haha i get where your coming from. But we are human and i think its just instinct to be able to come here and bitch or praise something we like or not. For the most part i been coming here for few years and i like reading what other people feel, whether it be bad or good. guess im Troll Out of all the games ive played i always find something i like and dislike. That''s just nature. Don't take what opther people say to heart find out for yourself. I sign up for betas and trials all the time. Unfortunaly its been said before you wont get that feel from a game like you did the first time you played an mmorpg where you knew nothing. Didnt know where to go. Didnt understand the abbreviations people use in diff games. Best thing i can say is dont let mmo addiction set in then it will not be fun anymore. If a game starts to feel like a job. You need take a break and come back later. Anyways most what i said ive seen said before LOL. Good Luck and game on.
I agree 100% with the OP. This is very true...usually I get on here to check up on the latest news...write a review or two, and that's it. Though I have started to play some games, namely "2moons", and there are tons of people bashing this game. Though I like the game, I have had to try and point out why there wrong about it, and it has started a large arguement. I think that people should write there opinions in a good sensible way, and then go on if they do not like it, but you do not get that. You get a bunch or ignorant people bashing a game, calling it stupid names, and then backing up there outrageous remarks with no evidence whatsoever. I think that we should stop argueing with these people, and if you like a game....than yes, still read the forums, but if you see a topic titled something that you know is most likely going to be filled with negativity...maybe it's best just not to read it.
It's because 99.999999999% of people here are not currenlty playing a single MMO or console game to keep them bisy ... so they blow their time stroking their e-peens bashing on games we already know that suck .... or dilly dally on pointless topics ...
but ...if you wanna feel all negative and emo inside .. read the WoW forums with me ... puts everything here to shame ...
lol, my favorite thread, complaining about complaining.
My favorite troll.

all these wow hate threads are ruining this forum. 99% of this forum since to consist of people who spend their awake time hating wow with a bitter passion.
My favorite troll.
LMFAO!!!!
Yeah I completely agree... pointless argueing. And people dont realize that no matter how much they bitch and fight people arent going to change their minds. People will believe whatever the hell they want to believe, no matter what other people say.
Very well said and it's the first time i read about this. so you deserve credit for being sure of what you think and speaking it out.
I was never more happy with a game than when plaing Everquest.. i didn't even know forums existed.
With time i have discoveres that forums are not a place to discuss something but for 1)bash the one thinking different 2) praising the one thinking like you (what i'm doing now )
I find the game comparison posts more annoying then the WoW hate threads.
Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)
Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)
Well, I cant speak for the general public in any way, but I can tell you why I care...
Had me eyes on Vanugard for a looong time, looking for a game that was hard, and I mean REALLY hard and unforgiving, so that i would feel I acctually acomplised anything once reaching the end lvl of the game.
I remember playing everquest and look in awe at the players that reached the levelcap, and I remember the intense feeling of pride (a geeky sort of pride, yes, but neverthless...) when another player came up to me, once I had reached the levelcap, and looking at me in awe, asking about where I got all my cool equpiment, and giving me complement for my nice outfit.
During that minute I was a real hero. (preheaps not a REAL hero, but a virtual one and yes, maybe somewhat of a geeky hero, but neverthless...) During that conversation, I was Conan, I was Frodo, Elric, Aslan, Captain America and every other true hero you can imagine... I had done something, not everyone could or would do, I had traveled to places not everybody had seen and fought monsters not everybody could manage.
Now, in the games I played after everquest (alas, even everquest in its final days...) there are no heroes, since everybody is a hero. (EVE being the exception, but alas EVE bores me for other reasons). Hence most othre games out there bores me after a months play. (in which you have one or two max lvl chars.)
So, anyways, Vanguard looked to me, as promising to be the first hard game since the golden days. The first game I would really enjoy since Everquest, and I looked forward to it with great passion. And, at the begining, it was what I wanted, in every detail (except the numerous bugs) and i had fun, for real.
But then an invasion of people came, that didnt want a hard game, and i saw how the new people screamed for changes to stupify the game. Changes that started to be implemented. I screamed back at the, in my eyes, locust swarm nibbling at the essence of the game I for years had longed for... and so i cared.
To protect what I feel is "my" game, the game I registered for, for so long time ago I have to shout at the people suggesting changes I dont want to see, and i have to shout at things already in the game, making it more stupid and easy then it has to be.
I imagine other people feels the same way about "theire" game, and shouts for similare reasons, but Im only guessing.
Also, I tend to shout at some of the "ohsoeasytochewandcomeandplaywithoutuseingyourbrainorskills" games I tend to see, in order to remind the game creators that there are a vast (although maybe not THE vastest) market of adults that wants a game to be real challenging and hard and not at all as mainstream as imagined. (EVE being a top notch exemple at that) This is why I, from time to time, finds myself argueing over why certain games lacks something.
Well, thats the reasons for me careing anyways...
Unfortunately, chagidiel1, its somewhat of a futile effort though. If a developer isn't going to stick to their guns in the first place and give in to the teaming masses of people complaining to dumb down a game regardless, then a small counter argument by a minority probably isn't going to change their minds. The problem today is more or less developers clamoring for a piece of the "WoW Pie", and making whatever changes the vocal majority demand to keep their player base. I understand what you're saying though. I'm not against valid discussions the game, it still need community feedback. But most posts are less feedback and more or less just all out troll fests demanding that you agree with them about how good their game is or how much this game sucks, and they won't stop spamming until you agree. You can't force people to change their opinion. People like different things, but people don't seem to want to accept that.

I used to get really down after reading forums, both here, on other fansites, and at the official sites. I had to ask myself what I was reading them for. I was happier when I decided to just play, play my own way, and not get into forum politics. Now I don't have a game that I am actively playing, so I am checking out different forums. I am looking forward to getting back into the games and off of the boards.
...
This is where I draw the line: __________________.
Some discussions contain a certain amount of validity, especially when it comes to giving readers (aka devs) a kind of synthesis for what people perceive to be the problems or the virtues of the game. Without that, developers and creators would be a lot less perfectionist, IMHO. Sure, they all want the WoW pie, but at least it's something they're fighting to improve upon and achieve greater status, instead of resting on their laurels because no one complains, or actually not resting at all because no one praises anything. Just because we enjoy something doesn't mean we can't or don't have to be critical about it.
The problem is, there will always be the pointless discussions, and even worse, the ones bordering on the idiocy of fanboyism which always leads to the absurd, that plague most forums and overshadow the good discussions simply because such threads are "hotter", as they flame, insult, and whatever. And I confess I always find those threads funny and sometimes overlook the good ones altogether. They get a lot more attention, that's all. And some of those people are seeking that attention, and you know why? Because they need acceptance, they need to hear someone else say "yeah, you're absolutely right, mate." and praise their "critical approach". Otherwise, there's really no point on people who like AoC or WAR going into each game's forums and bashing the others about how their game is gonna suck, about how they are going to be with the cool crowd, the privileged section of gaming which made "the intelligent choice". It's all about the insecurity of people, at least when it comes to these types of things.
Yes Kordesh, I do know its a rather futile thing to do, but after spending so much time and hope on a game, whishing it to be all it could be, and then watch it turn and becomeing something else...Well, it wouldnt feel right to just stand aside watching it happend, without at least letting the world know my pain.
After all, this was "my" game!
I guess, what Im saying is that computergames is for many people somehting that includes a passion. I know its so for me, after spending time with my freinds and girlfriend games take up most of my time after work, and I couldnt spend so much time (1-2 hours every other day) on something without some kind of passion.
And as everything that inludes passion, one tends to have strong feelings about it. Being a human being, I have a hard time, not making my strong feelings known to the world.
That said, I ofcourse agree, that, quite a bunch of threads about games is less then constructive and just pointless complaining. (for instance the allways present and completly pointless "I cancelled my subscription" thread. I mean, the cooperation in question is bound to know you canncelled your subscription, since they aint getting you money anylonger, and all we othres, just couldnt care less...)
Neverthless, I think even many of those posts comes from strong feelings about one thing or another, strong feelings originated from a passion.
Also, I would like to mention that when it comes to passion, not everything has to be meaningfull...
My country has been goverend by political ideas I do not suport, since the last election. Hence I complain on new laws passed and so forth. Do I know its rather pointless? Yes of course, but if I didnt asy something now and again, i would burst...
If I see a Nazi demonstration on the street, I would protest against them. Do I think someone of them will change and become a loving human due to my protests? No, ofcourse not, but in that situation, I wouldnt be able to live with my self, if I didnt say or did something.
In some situations, I feel, some things must be said, whetever sometihng will change due to whats said or not. I imagine others might feel the me way, and in theire most passionate moments forgets whats decent and constructive to say and whats not...
...Or I could be all in error, and those people are just evil humans lacking attentions from theire parents during a broken childhood...
