With the revised hype ranking list, AC2 now gets 8,1! Finally it gets what it deserves. This was the first MMORPG I vere played and actually the most fun too. Oddly, I never bought the game though (I played the free trial three times). I´ve been waiting for a better game for a year now, but AC2 is still as good as it gets if you ask me. The difference between AC2 and the rest is the questsystem. AC2 got fun, varied and rewarding quests that fits neatly into the storyarc. All other MMORPGs I played are about grinding, camping, farming and tedious leveling treadmills. In AC2 you play because it´s fun. Period. I´m downloading the game now (it´s only $13!), and this time I´m gonna buy it (can´t understand why I didn´t yet
). The game has some disadvantages though (no economy, deserted cities etc), and I´m only playing it till WoW comes out. The basic concept seems to be the same for AC2 and WoW however: FUN QUESTS!

How this game is number 2 is beyond me... The words bugs, lag, rubberbanding, and no one online come to mind when I think about my exp with this game.... But hey it WAS controlled by Microsoft nuff said. Rubberband anyone?
My ranking system
1. AO
2. PS and DAOC
3. EQ
4. EVE

You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith
Actually it had nothing to do with the Hype system revamp which just took place. The Hype system only affects games still in development, not released yet. AC2 doesn't fall into that category, it is handled by the Review system, same basic thing, just 2 different "pools" of games if you will.
Personally I just think a lot of people have been trying out the free trial lately and liking what they're seeing.

Actually i think AC2 is better then many think it is.
First it has a great community. It is also a beautiful game with quite ok quests. The alliegence system is good too.
Where it has fault is the chat system which was mostly down whenever i played. It also made the mistake of dividing the 3 continents to levels. The first 2 were very exciting and great but once you hit 30 and had to move to the ice one it was incredibly boring and unfinished.
Thus making post 30 very boring.I know the game must have gone thru a lot of changes in the last year so i am sure its a lot better now.
I have been thinking of trying it again but honestly there is so many newer mmorpgs out there that it seems not worth the effort(the AO syndrome i guess).
AC2 has a community? last time i saw they MERGED servers. Now If you call that having a community then AC2 was fun for awhile until I got to level 50. The most fun class i had however was a Juggernaut. I quit 6 months l8er b4 they changed the level cap to 60 and cuz i also had some unimaginable insae lag

The server population isn't that bad. The two main servers in AC2 have about the same amount of players as the main AC1 servers (except for Verdantine). Most of the time there are around 500-600 people on and peaks around 800, which is similar to AC1's other servers now that Verdantine opened.
As for the level cap, it's 150. The highest level person today I think is still in the high 60's.
Couldnt agree with you more!
Some people complain about the #'s but what do #'s do for a game? Having high #'s allot of times brings in the jerks and Aholes, it also brings in Camping, flooded market, etc.
As long as I can find a group when I need to and I am having fun with a game I could care less if there are 500 peeps or 100,000 peeps.
Sooo... Stereoviewer,
How's that fresnel lense love coming along.

Your list seems to be missing two relatively common entrants in the MMOG genre:
EQ
AO
Any reason you haven't tried either?

Slanger is right. And for those complaining about lvl 50 cap, it's nolonger like that. Level cap has been raised to lvl 150.

Yeah, actually. UO came out first and then EQ and AC. I chose AC over EQ and i didnt plan on playing 3 mmoRPG's @ the same time. Also my uncle who is a big time mmoRPG'er beta tested/played AO and he said it sucked. So I didn't bother playing that. Also i prefer fantasy mmo's over anything else. So AO was not something I was interested in.

Hmm Going back to AC2, it doesn't surprise me to see it at 2nd place at the moment, CoH is rated 1st on the list.
Well everyone wanted to be superman and now they are. Pretty much why CoH is #1. Personally it's not a game I'm interested in.

CoH is a game for people with a short attention span; it's not meant for players who are actually looking for depth in a game. I ALMOST played it, but by the time all of my friends convinced me too, they'd already moved back to other games...one of my friends even left CoH for SWG, so it can't be THAT good of a game.
AC2 was actually a really nice game. Visually, it was stunning ofr the time it was released. It also had some pretty interesting features. I wish I could get another try at it now that Turbine has put some major revisions into it, but I don't really have the time.
However, to anyone that can, I heavily suggest trying it out for yourselves.
