European MMO?

DicharekDicharek Member UncommonPosts: 177

I was curious about which MMO's was made in Europe. Except from the coming game, AoC, I've only heard of Asian and American MMO's.

Obviously there is a difference in art and animation between asian and american MMO's but does european games have anything that differs it from american ones?

Well, of course Anarchy Online is made by FunCom aswell, in Europe..

Don't think there's that much of a diffrence between the europeans and the americans.. :)

Released: EVE Online (Iceland), Anarchy Online (Norway), Saga of Ryzom (France), Roma Victor (UK), Dark and Light (France)

only 2.5 of these I'd call successful (EVE and AO, maybe Ryzom)

In Production: Age of Conan (Norway), Darkfall (Norway/Greece), The Chronicles of Spellborn (Netherlands) + a number of small/vaporware titles

EDIT: also successful free ones: Runescape (UK) and Tibia (Germany)

I'll take it upon myself to apologize for our (once-proud) nation releasing such utter MMO drivel, and expecting people to pay for it, too.

Why? This game in no way reflects on UK game-design talents generally. This was a game produced as a labor of love on a shoestring budget by a small group of ardent partisans. It has some nice concepts but did not have enough financial backing to make it playable. Its condition re-proves some conventional wisdom, in particular that it is not practical to implement a general "life simulation" without some abstraction or generalization.

The UK has some awesome strategy-game studios, which successfully march to the beat of their own drummers. That's enough to atone both for RV and for the paucity of well-known successful MMO titles from the UK.
