I think I've got it down, except for one thing...
I recently started to play on my brother's game, and I've gotten a few characters that I like, but once I've got to level 8, I found that leveling was a little hard. This may just be me, and I know it can't be all that hard if I see level 38s running around. I guess I should be in Kings Row, and after that, is there any other way to level up faster? Should it be group or solo?

What Archetype are you? Certain AT's like Controllers solo a lot slower than others at the early levels.
You'll gain XP a lot quicker in larger groups. And it's way more fun than solo'ing.
Enjoy !

Level 8 is also a good time to find groups in the hollows although I would recommend not being in a rush to level. Have fun with the game ( ' :
What they said. It could be your Archetype. You may do better in a group. A Tanker or Scrapper (and maybe a Blaster) could go solo in King's Row at Level 8, but if you're playing a Controller or Defender (or just want to gain experience faster), you'd be much better off finding a group in the Hollows.
Or you can do the Frostfire mission a few times. Its usually good for a level each run as long as you aren't grouped with tools, up to about 10 or so. Then you can go from 8-13 in the hollows in one night of constant grouping in the Hollows easy.
Radio missions in KR are good, plus you get a temp travel power to help you out till 14. If you can stealth to the end and kill the named mob / click the glowie, the mission complete bonuses add up fast.
Me, I gring mobs in AP till lvl 3, get a sewer team to 6-8, takes just a few hours at most. Then go to KR do three radio missions to get the bank job, get the temp power, then head to the Hollows for some FF and Troll cave goodness. Trust me, get the temp power before you go to Hollows, it'll help immensly.
Then once you hit 12-13, hit up the Atta mission in the hollows, its like a mini-Task Force, hehe! Mass xp though to cruise to 15 on that.
I can usually do this in two game sessions pretty easy.
From there, you can go to Faultline, or Steel Canyon even. If you like punishment, do Positron's TF in Steel Canyon, its good xp, but you may be slitting your wrist before its over.
Of course, my 2 years of vet rewards really help tons though.
The atta mission is by far the longest. That's pretty much the script to run although typically just run sewers through 6 or 8, don't even bother with ap missions if you're just speeding through.
Haha, wow..thanks for all the help guys. The only thing I haven't heard of in there is the temp power. What is it, and , just to clarify, how do you get it? Doing the KR missions then getting the bank job?
Getting to 6 is easy. At level 5 do your first safeguard as soon as possible and get the Raptor Pack temp power(1.5 hours of flight). Yo uwill need to goto Kings Rows to get police band missions to do safe guards. At level 10 make sure to do the next type of safeguard (you may need to go to Steel canyon) to get the Zero-G pack temp power (1.5 hours of super jump). This will make your life much easier
Missions are based on your level so you can solo them anytime you want. I find that ploice band missions in CoH make you run around a lot less than story arcs. But other wise go where ever you have missions
The quickest way to level is usually in a group but solo can be good too, unless you have a build that does not solo well of course.
Around level 8 you can also be doing the Hollows there are often team forming there to kill the large spawns.
I've had a few lucky alts that hooked up with a sewer team at lvl 2 or 3 and zipped up to lvl 8 in about an hour or so. thats kinda rare though, as people often bail soon as they ding, or the team sucks and there are wipes.
If that happens, I grind steet mobs to lvl 5 and hit KR for ploice band missions as described above. Get that temp power asap, makes life so much better as a lowbie.
When you do enough police band missions you are offered a safeguard, win that and you get your raptor pack (fly temp power). Once you hit 10 you will get a different safeguard mish and when you complete that you get a different temp power reward. The 1st time you win a safeguard mish you are awarded a temp power.
NOTE: the raptor pack has a timer that only decays when used. It is not real-time, so that pack can easily last you well passed level 14. As an example my Thug Mastermind got 3 travel temp powers: raptor pack (1st mayhem), jump pack (2nd mayhem) and goldbricker pack (from a mish). He is level 30 and is now down to just the goldbricker pack and doesn't have an "official" travel power yet.
As for leveling, once you hit Atlas at level 2 a sewer team can take you easily to 6 or 7 in about an hour or so. You can continue with that if you really want to til about level 10 then go hit Hollows. There you can easily get to mid-high teens in a day or two.
solo missions are based on your level - to a point. If you level too quickly, you will skip contacts and missions. If you get a low level mission (say lvl5) and don't start it until several levels (4+) later, you will still be able to complete, but the baddies will be too low level to give you any xp. More of an annoyance/time waste factor than anything.
Like others have said, take your time and enjoy the game. Indulge in some altitis and see what type of powers you prefer. my main is a claws/reflex scrapper. Around level 25 I was wishing I'd chosen other powersets, maybe not even had a scrapper at all, but I had too much invested in the character to just drop him and start over.
If you're going to be playing this for a while - Choose your name wisely! - that was part of my problem. when he hit 50, it didn't really make since to make a 'Claw 2.0' without claws. Some people just make totally unrelated characters, some people like to 'upgrade' their toons. But that's a whole 'nother thread...
